Deputy Defence Minister Datuk Abdul Rahim Bak ri said a Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia survey showed that 85% of 60,000 respondents believed PLKN, which was introduced in 2004, had succeeded in fostering patriotism and unity. He told Senator Zaiton Mat Amin in the Dewan Negara today, the study, which covered various communities nationwide in 2009, also concluded that the modules used met the aim of PLKN in preparing youths to serve the country. Zai ton wanted to know how effective was PLKN specifically in boosting patriotism among the young.  Abdul Rahim said to ensure the PLKN curriculu m stayed relevant and effective, the four core modules – character building, nationhood, community service and physical fitness – would be ret ained, boosted with the stress on the patriotic spirit and volunteerism. KUALA LUMPUR: The National Service Training Programme (PLKN) has met its target and must

be continued to develop the character of the young.
