Plexiglasreg IAXP grades are acrylic copolymers in the form of pellets or beads that are used as low-shrink and low-profile additives (LPA) for formulations of unsaturated polyester curable resins (UPR)

Plexiglasreg LPAs are available in a wide range of copolymer composishytions molecular weight and particle size This variety allows the customer to select the most suitable grade to meet the requirements of its applications and processes

Altuglas International one of Arkemarsquos business units is the worldrsquos leading producer of PMMA (polymethylmethacrylate) Altuglas International markets its acrylic resins under the brand name Plexiglasreg in North and South America and Altuglasreg in the rest of the world Altuglas International has sales research and development and manufacturing operations worldwide

Plexiglasreg LPA Description

Unsaturated polyester curable resins are one of the most useful materials used to produce a wide range of products by several processes including injection and compression molding (BMCSMC) pultrusion resin transfer molding (RTM) hand lay-up and spray-up

One of the disadvantages in polyshyester resin polymerization is the shrinkage of parts during curing the extent of which may vary according to process conditions and is difficult to control

Additions of 3 to 20 weight of the LPA allow control over part shrinkage Typically LPAs in a styrene solution are used as an additive in polyester formulations
