PROVEN TECHNOLOGY FOR IMPROVED PERFORMANCEKeep your bag house dust collectors running efficiently and energy smart with high-quality pleated bag filters from United Air Specialists. Developed to replace traditional filter bags and cages, each pleated bag filter has a one-piece construction design which allows it to be used in new systems or as a simple retrofit in existing bag house equipment for improved system performance. The one-piece design also significantly reduces installation time making changeouts easier.

Pleated bag filters offer up to 2-3 times the filter life over traditional 16 oz. polyester felt bags and provide almost twice as much filtration area in existing equipment due to increased media in the pleat pack design. This increased filter area causes the air-to-media ratio to decrease when the airflow stays the same, dramatically increasing filtration efficiency while operating at significantly lower differential pressures. Pleated bag filters are shorter than standard fabric bags which allows for larger drop out area and less opportunity for bag abrasion. The filter’s urethane banding retention system ensures consistent pleat spacing, which results in enhanced cleaning and extended filter life.

INCREASED FILTRATION CAPACITYWith today’s tighter emissions limits and increased production demands, it is essential to gain improved performance from your industrial air filtration systems. Pleated bag filters offer more filtration media than traditional felt bags increasing the filtration surface area and thus the filtration capacity. As shown in the illustration, a 6.6 ft. long (2.0 m) pleated bag filter contains as much filtration media area as three (3) traditional felt bags 12 ft. long (3.6 m). This significant increase in available filtration area can be gained by retrofitting your existing traditional bag house systems with pleated bag filters. Use of pleated bag filters instead of traditional felt bags will also dramatically reduce the system’s differential pressure and air-to-media ratio (AMR) thereby improving airflow, reducing the number of filter cleaning cycles and improving the dust collector system’s overall performance.

Filter Media Efficiency Characteristics

SPUNBOND MEDIA & ePTFE MEMBRANESpunbond media is created by layering fine denier fibers from multiple spinning heads onto a moving mat. The depth of the fibers is then calendared under heat and pressure and the calendaring of the fibers results in the resistance of penetration into the media.

ePTFE (expanded polytetrafluoruethylene) membrane technology is a fine surface layer that features bonded PTFE fibers laminated onto a filter media substrate. The layer is created by stretching a PTFE membrane bi-directionally resulting in fiber diameters ranging between 50 and 500 nanometers (nm). This membrane is then laminated to the filter media substrate using heat and pressure. ePTFE membranes are applied to spunbond polyester media substrates when used in dust collector applications. Since the PTFE membrane is slick, bag cleaning is more complete with less energy.

THE VALUE OF ePTFE FILTERSePTFE filters have wide pleat spacing, strong resistance to moisture and good release characteristics, which make them an ideal choice for hygroscopic or agglomerative dusts, such as dusts produced during the processing of sugar, flour and chemicals. The moisture resistance associate with ePTFE is a clear advantage over nanofiber, spunbond and polyester felt solutions.

ePTFE is the superior choice versus spunbond media or spunbond nanofiber for bag house applications. ePTFE filters achieve a higher Minimum Efficiency Reporting Value (MERV) rating than spunbond substrate with nanofiber layer. This means that, once out of the box, ePTFE filters will be able to collect a higher percentage of submicron particulate than spunbond nanofiber technology. ePTFE media also offers superior filtration to traditional 16 oz. polyester felt which is only fairly effective at capturing particulate at the 3-10 micron level.

SURFACE LOADING EXCELS OVER DEPTH LOADINGProPulse® ePTFE pleated bag filters collect particulate on the surface of the membrane which results in a filter that is more easily cleaned. Because dust accumulates on the surface, rather than within the media depth, less energy is required to dislodge the particulate from the media’s surface. This significantly reduces the number of cleaning cycles required to maintain a pressure drop, which results in less compressed air usage, lower emissions and extended filter life.

Conventional filter bags collect particulate in the depth of the fabric, making them more difficult to clean. Unlike ProPulse pleated bag filters with ePTFE filter media, commodity depth loading filters have large spaces or pores within their base media fibers which allow particles to penetrate deep within the media substrate increasing pressure drop. Subsequently, conventional filter bags plug at a faster rate requiring more frequent cleaning which leads to increased abrasion and wear, lower efficiency and reduced filter life.
