Student Opportunities● There are many opportunities for students to build
leadership skills and enhance their educational experience outside the school setting.
● Randolph Electric Youth Tour – Open to 10th & 11th grade students - receive all-expense paid trip to Washington, DC over summer break. Applications usually available late Fall and due mid to late December or early January
L.I.F.T● Student Leadership Information For Tomorrow,
L.I.F.T., is a program sponsored by the Asheboro/Randolph Chamber of Commerce.
● The program, offers around 26 rising high school sophomores/juniors who reside in Randolph County the opportunity to learn more about the area and gain valuable leadership skills.(present 9th & 10th graders)
● Applications for 2019-20 LIFT will be available from Mrs. Trotter in the spring. $50 fee, but need-based scholarships are available
● Cost-free, state-funded program for academically talented NC residents who have demonstrated interest in science and mathematics and aspire to a career in STEM
● Rising juniors and seniors are eligible to apply● The program is currently hosted at four campuses of the
university system—Appalachian State University (ASU), East Carolina University (ECU), North Carolina Central University (NCCU), and University of North Carolina at Charlotte (UNCC)

● The Broyhill Leadership Conference is a unique, life-changing experience for delegates who attend each year. During the conference, high school students are challenged to learn, develop, and practice leadership skills that they will take with them and use for the rest of their lives.
● $260-$300 to attend week-long summer experience on Queens or Wingate University campus

Registration Timeline for 2019-2020
● Counselors met with all grade levels this past Monday and passed out registration forms
● All applications are available in the Counselor’s Office● All registration forms and applications will be turned
in to homeroom teachers tomorrow (March 1st)● Course selections can still be changed when we meet
with students individually● Individual meetings with students will begin around
March 11th with rising 10th grade students, however, scheduling priority is given to seniors.
Interested in taking Honors, AP or RCC classes?● Our registration team will look at your previous grades to
determine if you qualify for enrollment in an Honors, AP or RCC course.
● Rigor and independent outside assignments will be required for Honors, AP & College Transfer courses.
● Taught at a faster pace● Test strategies may be different● Extra projects are required● Extra GPA points given for these courses● You should have a B or above in your current subject class
to register for any Honors or AP Courses● Waivers are available
● What is AP (Advanced Placement)? College level courses offered for high school credit. Students have the ability to earn college credit(s) by taking a test in May. Lots of course options available face to face and online.

What are some of the Requirements for the AP Capstone Academy?
●All Academy students will take at least 6 AP classes during high school.
●All Sophomores will have a choice of an AP Elective.
●Juniors will take AP Seminar and other AP classes of their choosing or
community college classes.
●In their Senior year, all Academy students will take AP Research
●You can apply for this program by going to the SWRHS homepage and looking for the link: AP Capstone Academy Application. All Applications are due by tomorrow, March1st.

North Carolina Virtual Public School Courses (NCVPS)
▶ Available to 11th & 12th grade students who are self-directed & motivated
▶ Offers numerous electives that you can take online during school or as a 5th block after school
▶ Limited slots are available for courses not available on our campus
▶ Visit www.ncvps.org for a complete list of courses▶ You can pick this registration sheet up from the Counseling
Office.
Senior Early Release
● Seniors can take up to 2 early releases during their senior year but are encouraged to keep a full schedule if possible.
● Students with early release must provide their own transportation. If a student is an athlete they must leave campus and return later for athletic practice.
● Scholarships will often ask for a transcript, so please consider how you might appear in comparison to peers that are taking a full course load.
Early Graduation for Seniors
● Early Graduation is an option for students who can complete all graduation requirements during the fall semester of their senior year including having 28 total credits
● Students must submit an application during registration
● Only students with a plan should opt for early graduation (ex. Needs to work to support the family, has a job lined up, military, etc.)
● Four year colleges/universities discourage early graduation
