Our IPC unit this term is ‘‘Roots, Fruits and Shoots’ .

As scientists, we will be discovering how plants grow, the conditions required for germination, the reproductive parts of a plant and the different methods by which they reproduce including pollination.

As artists, we will be drawing the anatomy of invertebrates such a bees and butterflies and looking at the work of artists such as Georgia O’Keefe.

As Global Learners, we will be learning about different approaches to pollinator protection around the globe. This will help us to further develop our enquiry, morality and communication skills.

As readers, we will develop our knowledge of how an author uses language choices and techniques to create character arcs, suspense, dilemmas and plot strands.

We will continue to practise our skills in inferring the text, and discussing story formatting.

This helps embed our deeper understanding of how authors use writing devices to enthral their readers!

As mathematicians, we will develop our knowledge of units of measurement and how we use conversions between measures. More specifically, we will focus on units of measure for time, mass, length and also we will explore imperial and metric units of measurement .

The children will also be provided the opportunity to extend their knowledge of decimals and whole numbers. We will continue to practise our skills in representing decimals in different ways, using the four operations and solving word problems.

The acquired knowledge from both units will help us to make wider connections to real life problems.

IPC linked writing will include poetry about insects, and explanation reports about pollination and germination. We will focus on our use of technical vocabulary and ensuring that we are spelling accurately.

We will end the term with writing weeks, with daily writing sessions themed around our book, ‘Wonder’. We will be using clauses to extend our sentences and continue to practise using all the grammar associated with writing speech to create narrative stories.
