A reservation has been made for you to attend the next Mensa test session.

When: 10.30am, Saturday 25 November 2017

Where: Monash University, Caulfield Campus, Building K, Room 2.13

As the session starts promptly at the time indicated above, we would appreciate your arriving fifteen minutes before the session begins, in order to have you seated and your attendance noted in plenty of time. Please note that you will not be admitted to the session after the starting time. The test session will take approximately two hours.

If you find that you will be unable to attend the test session, please notify Mensa by sending an email message to [email protected]. You will remain in our database as a paid Mensa test candidate, and can register for a future test at no additional cost. Keep an eye on the Events Calendar (www.mensa.org.au/events) for future tests. You will be able to register for a future test that suits your availability. Or, if you move interstate, you will be able to register for a future test in that state.

How to get there

The venue is located at the corner of Queens Avenue and Sir John Monash Drive in Caulfield East – see the campus map at the link below:

http://monash.edu/pubs/maps/2-Caulfieldcolour.pdf

The closest railway station is Caulfield Station, across the road from the campus, which is a stop on the Metro Cranbourne, Dandenong, Frankston, and Pakenham lines, and a stop on the V/Line Bairnsdale and Traralgon services (inbound). Tram routes 3 and 3a also stop nearby. Bus routes 624 and 900 also stop at Caulfield Station. Metered parking is usually available along Sir John Monash Drive, unless there is an event on at Caulfield Racecourse. Free parking is available on Normanby Road which is accessible to Monash through the Station underpass. Paid parking is also usually available on the rooftop (Level 7) of the multi-level car park (J Block) on Princes Avenue (the ticket machines are located on Level 7). There is a taxi rank adjacent to Caulfield Station.

Room K2.13 is on Level 2 of K Block. If the Level 1 (Ground Floor) entrance to K Block is locked, you can take the external stairs at the Queens Avenue end of K Block or at the S Block end of N Block to the Level 2 walkway. There will be a “Mensa Supervised Test” sign outside the room prior to commencement of the test. As mentioned above, once the test has commenced, you will not be admitted.

Please send an email message to [email protected] a few days before the test if using stairs is a problem for you, so that alternative access arrangements can be made for you on the day of the test.

Please note: Monash University is a totally smoke-free environment.

What to bring

Photo ID (e.g. driver's licence or passport)

Two HB pencils and an eraser

Proof of concession entitlement (for candidates claiming concession entitlement)

a watch or small clock (if you need to check the time – there is no clock in the room, although we do usually display a large countdown timer at the front of the room – however, it will always be your responsibility to manage your own time during the test)

a water bottle (if you think you may need to hydrate during the test)

Please note: Electronic devices, such as mobile phones, tablets, smart watch or calculators are not permitted to be used during the test – you may bring your mobile phone to the test, but it must be switched off, or to Flight/Airplane mode, and must not sit on the desk during the test (and therefore cannot be used as your timekeeping device).

If you are a minor (i.e. under 18) on the day of the test, you will need a parent or legal guardian to counter-sign the form you will be asked to complete before taking the test (however, your parent or legal guardian will not be permitted to remain in the room during the test) – if one of your parents, or a legal guardian, cannot be at the test venue, we may be able to make other arrangements for the counter-signature to be obtained later.

Preparation for the test

It's a good idea to have an early night beforehand with little or no alcohol (even a couple of glasses can make a difference to how you perform in a test). On the day, be as stress-free as possible and wear comfortable clothes. As this may be your first public 'exam' for some time, we'll try to make it as pleasant and relaxing as possible, so try not to feel too nervous about the experience. If you do not feel quite ready for the test at the last minute (e.g. because you did not sleep well the night before, or are experiencing difficulty getting to the venue on time), you may prefer to notify us that you will not be attending this test, and register for another test in the future. Remember, it will not cost you any more to register for another test, and you may perform better when you are more alert and relaxed.

Your application to join Mensa is completely confidential, and only the Proctor and the necessary Mensa Administration officers know about it.

Good luck on the day!
