April Newsletter
2018
The following is a review of PDNF board meeting held March 28.
Present: Bud Bannerman, Claire Charuk, Francine Crawford, Creta McGuire, Margaret Ritter, Peg-gy Viel. Regrets: Brenda Barclay, Linda Finley. Time: 9:30am-11:55am
The board received a report from the human resource committee on the yearly evaluation of the Ex-ecutive Director. Peggy was thanked for the constant resourceful and enabling support she gives to our center.
A concern was expressed that we must have a quorum at our annual meeting (May 13 following a luncheon). We will contact people asking them if they will attend and, if not, request a proxy.
The treasurer presented the February financial reports which were accepted by the Board. As well the audited 2017 financial statements were accepted by the board. The monthly financial state-ments may be seen by contacting the office.
To receive our money from the city (FCSS) we must present a strategic plan. The Board and the Executive Director began the process during a full day workshop led by a member of community services from the Alberta government. The Executive then developed goals and objectives. At this meeting the Board discussed and set strategies. There is considerable work yet to be done. The goal is that the plan will be ready for Board approval at our June meeting.

FREE Education Session – ALL are welcome!
Date: Wednesday April 11, 2018
Time: 2:15-2:45
Location: Parkdale Nifty 50’s
THANK YOU! THANK YOU! THANK YOU!
On March 17th an enthusiastic group of club members and friends met to celebrate St.
Patrick’s Day. Although the numbers were down from last year, we all enjoyed the
good friendship, good Irish food and the Irish dancing provided by several lovely
young ladies from The Irwin School of Irish Dance.
These events could not happen without the hard work of many dedicated volunteers.
Sincere thanks to the following ladies and gentlemen for their help in putting on this
event: Bob and Patti Howell, Rose Tenor, Joan Traviss, Pam Deliyannides, Marjorie
Olafson, Claire Charuk, the Saturday Morning Men’s Bridge Club, Doug Hlady, Creta
McGuire, Joyce Oldale, Carol Lacey, Brenda Anthony and many other kind people
who stayed after the event to clean up or helped in the kitchen cutting meat, etc.
Thanks also to Angela who washed dishes for us after the event.
Door Prizes included handmade bracelets donated by Joan Traviss, Two certificates
for One Hour of Home Care Services donated by The Mad Tasker (ask about their
services at the office if you are interested), and baking trays donated by Nifty Fifties
and baked by Ruby Miller, chocolate bars and a shopping bag with goodies inside.
Many thanks to all of you!
50/50 earned the club $70 dollars. Thanks to everyone who played and supported our
cause.
Thank you to everyone who attended this event.
Be sure to watch the newsletter and bulletin boards for our next social event.

Good Food Box
Parkdale Nifty Fifties is a Good Food Box Depot. The Good Food Box (GFB) is a program
whereby you can purchase fresh fruits and vegetables for a very low cost. The GFB operates
by buying fresh top quality produce directly from farmers and wholesale clubs. The food is
bought in bulk and dropped off at our warehouse. Our volunteers then divide up the produce
into portions and put the Good Food Boxes together. The boxes contain the maximum produce
possible for the price. We rely on our dedicated depots and volunteers to run the program.
Prices:
‘Large Family Box’ 40 + lbs. of produce $35.00
‘Family Box’ 30 + lbs. of produce $30.00
‘Single/Senior Box’ 20 + lbs. of produce $25.00
What will you find in your Good Food Box?
~ Apples ~ Bananas ~ Broccoli
~ Carrots ~ Corn ~ Cauliflower
~ Cucumbers ~ Bell Peppers ~ Grapefruit
~ Lettuce ~ Lemons/Limes ~ Onions
~ Oranges ~ Potatoes ~ Tomatoes
The selection will vary according to availability and wholesale costs.
Each member/family wanting a box of produce is required to come to the PDNF office, fill out
an order form and pay the required amount. This must be done every month that a GFB is de-
sired. The boxes can be picked up at the PDNF office
as soon as they arrive. The order forms are available
at the PDNF office and orders should be in at least 2
weeks prior to delivery date, so we can pre-order for
the next delivery. Delivery dates will be posted in our
monthly newsletter, as above. We have a member
who will deliver the Good Food Box if you are in the
south-west area of Calgary. Please let the office know
if you are interested in purchasing a Good Food Box
and having it delivered.
Floor Curling
Thursdays @ 1:30pm
Played with the same rules as ice curling, floor curling uses wooden rocks with
metal handles (2 lbs.) and shuffleboard wax on a hard floor.
Don’t be intimidated, this low impact activity can be done from standing or sitting
and there are throwing aids so you don’t even have to bend! Unlike ice curling
there is no sweeping!
The floor is laid out like a regular curling rink.
No in-turn, no out-turn!
Put your fun and competitive hat on and throw some rocks, have some coffee
and enjoy a nice time with friends.
Board Games
Every Wednesday @ 1:30 p.m.
Cost : $2.00/Members
: $3.00/Non-members
Come join our regular group of gamers for some friendly competition and
some fun!!
Members Please Note:
Please consider signing a proxy form in or-
der to have the quorum for the AGM. This
is important for members to be aware of
the requirement for the organization to re-
main a non-profit. In addition, Board Mem-
bers are needed, if interested please con-
tact the office.

PARKDALE NIFTY FIFTIES
$85.
You don’t need to be a master to take this workshop, you just need a desire to
improve your current paintings and give them that something extra special. It is
not about the medium you work in (any welcome), your style or approach but
about your wish to become a better painter. This can easily be done by simply
“mastering the basics”.
Bring several paintings to class, finished but not necessarily framed. We will
start by reviewing the principles necessary to plan and execute a successful
work of art. We will then use a checklist to evaluate the work and see where im-
provements can be made.
With renewed confidence and knowledge, you will then plan a new painting
from your own reference material or mine and get to work.
“Fun and Success Guaranteed”!
