Student Led Conferences (SLC) At Te Mata School we truly believe in teaching our students to be self-regulated learners. Part of this, is teaching our students to talk about their own learning. We want all our students leading their parents / caregivers through their learning journey. We have two learning conversations each year, one in Term 2 and one in Term 4. The learning conversations are 20 minutes duration. Teachers join the end of the conversation for 5-10minutes. There will be three or four learning conversations / families occurring simultaneously in each room. Teachers assist students as they guide their parents through their learning. This is a special time for each family to spend quality time together talking through their learning. As children talk through their learning, it consolidates their thinking and increases their self-esteem and leads to them becoming more self-directed and intrinsically motivated. Parents gaining insight of their child’s learning journey leads to improved relationships and understanding of the gains and challenges that affect their learning and how parents/ family may be able to support their journey.

Where parents / caregivers have concerns regarding their child’s learning (throughout the year) we encourage them to schedule a discussion time with the teacher. Teacher with concerns regarding a child’s learning will contact the parents / caregivers. Learning is not a secret! All students, regardless of their age, need to be able to tell their parents what they are learning and why, who can help with aspects of their learning and how.

Our goal is for student led conferences to be special for all our children and be an experience that will help them in future educational or employment opportunities. There is an expectation that children are smartly dressed and well presented for their student led conference. Student led conferences are an opportunity for our students to present themselves well and share their successes. Supervision is organised for pre-schoolers and other siblings who are waiting for their turn.

ROOM 1 STUDENTS: - Some students have not been at school long enough to do a SLC OR Haylee has already had parent meetings. However, the following students in Room 1 will be having a SLC. They are: -

Celeste collates your preferred times and takes

into consideration the smooth transition for

Organising Classes for 2016.

On Friday 13th November we enrolled our 100th Student. This is the highest our roll has been in the past 10 years. This is really something worth celebrating. Congratulations to all our families who believe so strongly in the education your child / children are receiving at Te Mata School. Our enrolment scheme has a capped roll of 103 students. We have to now discuss our class placements for next year and also the students we are able to enrol for 2016. The enrolment scheme is set up where all students within the Te Mata Zone automatically receive entry to the school. It is a delicate balance where we accept out of zone students while ensuring we still have places for in zone students. To help us with this process we would greatly appreciate it if you could let us know if you are aware of any students leaving Te Mata for any reason and also any students who may wish to enrol in 2016.

NOT SHOWING UP ON GOOGLE?

As our website has never existed before, Google doesn't know to search for it when you use Google for searching as most people do. We need as many people as possible to visit the website as the more visitors it has, the more likely Google acknowledges it exists and the higher up it is when someone searches for Te Mata School. This is a very common occurrence for schools that HAVEN'T had a website before.
