How will the staff recognize and encourage good student behavior?

• Building relationships with students and a sense of community within our school are the foundations of our discipline plan. Prevention will be where we spend most of our time. Our goal is to eliminate misbehavior before it happens by communicating our expectations, modeling good character, and teaching appropriate social skills and problem-solving.

Do Lindsey teachers view misbehavior as a learning opportunity for students?

• Absolutely!• Our role is to assist the student in taking ownership of their behavior and

see the consequences as a logical result of their choice. This will occur through our conversations with students after misbehavior occurs.

• We realize no behavior technique will have a lasting, positive result if it ‘s not delivered with compassion, empathy, or understanding.

• Consequences will be as individualized as possible.•  Whole class/group punishment is not the Lindsey Way.  Teachers will not withhold recess or other privileges from the entire class in response to misbehavior of a few or even many.  It’s the responsibility of the teacher to determine which students are not following our school-wide expectations and provide consequences to those students.

Birthday Celebrations at School• Due to district policies and possible classroom allergies, parents will

NOT be able to supply the class with any food items in celebration of a child’s birthday. This includes cupcakes, candy, cake, etc. Another option that parents could consider is to send a goody bag for each student in your child’s class. NO CANDY will be allowed in these goody bags, but you could include items such as stickers, pencils, small “treasures,” etc.

• Students will not be allowed to hand out birthday party invitations

at school. You can provide permission for their email address to be shared with other families in the class. This allows parents to send evites and communicate with one another about birthdays, playdates, etc. The Lindsey PTA also provides a family directory to all members in an effort to encourage communication between classes/grade levels.

A Few Words About Afternoon Dismissal• Lindsey Elementary staff members work hard each day to ensure

252 Bus  Riders + 46 Daycare Riders + 122 Kids Club Attendees + 456 Car Riders/Walkers Are Returned Safely Home in the Span of Approximately 20 Minutes!

• If you come to campus each afternoon to pick up your child…• Be sure to bring your Student Safety Sign

• Display it in your car window licenses • Show it to staff members working the Parent Waiting Area

• If you need to change your child’s dismissal plan for the day, please be sure to notify the school office and teacher BEFORE 2:00 pm.

• We realize our procedures may, at times, be a bit inconvenient for parents, but are in place to ensure student safety. We greatly appreciate your understanding and support each afternoon!
