The age requirement for kindergarten entrance in Virginia is that children will have celebrated their fifth birthday by September 30. Upon parent request, any Hampton child who will celebrate his/her fifth birthday in October or November may be eligible to register for kindergarten pending the outcome of an evaluation. Parents with children who were born during the months of October or November 2016, can call Virginia Saloka at 727-2130 to schedule an entrance evaluation appointment. Please note that the decision regarding the child’s eligibility status based on the evaluation is final and that there is no appeal process. Each family will receive a packet of information necessary for kindergarten registration when they visit their child's zoned school. Items Needed to Register Child: 1. Proof of Residency: Mortgage/lease statement Public utilities statement such as water, electric or gas bill Residency affidavit (available at any school office) 2. Child’s State Issued Birth Certificate 3. Child’s Physical Health Form – (Dated within 12 months of school start date and Immunization Record) 4. Custody papers (if applicable) 5. Photo Identification - of Parent/Guardian If unable to provide a physical and an up-to-date immunization record at registration, please note that these documents MUST be submitted prior to the first day of school. Registration takes place at your zoned school. You may contact your zoned school for more information.
