Wireless technology is radio-based, which means connectivityand the throughput performance between devicesdecreases when the distance bet ween devices increasesOther factors that will cause signal degradation (metal isgenerally the worst culprit) are obstructions such as wallsand metal appliances Note also that connection speed maydecrease as you move farther away from t he Router
In order to determine if wireless issues are related torange, we suggest temporarily moving the computerwithin 10 feet from the Router if possible
Chgig th wir chDepending on localwireless traffic and interference, switching the wirelesschannel of your network can improve performance andreliability See the section titled Changing the WirelessChannel for instructions on how to choose other channels
limitig th wir trmit rtLimiting the wireless transmitrate can help improve range and connection stability Most wirelesscards have the ability to limit the transmission rate To change thisproperty in Windows, go to the Windows Control Panel, open NetworkConnections, and double-click on your wireless cards connection Inthe properties dialog, select the Configure button on the Generaltab, then choose the Advanced tab and select the rate propert y
Wireless client cards are usually set to automatically adjustthe wireless transmit rate for you, but doing so can causeperiodic disconnects when the wireless signal is too weak; asa rule, slower transmission rates are more stable Experimentwith different connection rates until you find the best onefor your environment Note that all available transmissionrates should be acceptable for browsing the Internet For
