When the Platinum Technology RF adapter senses that AC power from a standard outlet has been turned on or off, it sends out a signal to open or close a specific window covering or group of coverings accordingly. Used in conjunction with a simple off-the-shelf lamp timer, the RF Adapter is a cost-effective solution for automatic operation. And with a little imagination, it can fit a wide range of needs and applications with home automation and energy management systems.

The Platinum™ Technology LCD timer can be set to automatically raise, lower, traverse or tilt a specific window covering or group of coverings at any time throughout the day. This convenient device helps ensure privacy, protect home furnishings from harmful ultraviolet rays and make a home look lived in while the occupants are away.

LCD TIMER OPERATION

• Timer should be mounted in the same room as the window coverings for optimal operation.

• Activate settings via the LCD menu screens.

• Timer is assigned to coverings with the same cloning method used for duplicating Platinum remotes and wireless wall switches.

• Window coverings can be assigned to any one of the four RF groups, or for total control, the timer can be cloned to the “ALL” group.

Harness the warmth of the sun or keep it at bay with the Platinum™ Technology solar energy sensor. During the heat of the day, the sensor detects the amount of solar energy entering the home through the window and sends out a wireless signal that automatically opens or closes window coverings to maximize energy efficiency in the room. The sensor features two unique energy saving modes:

SUMMER MODE

• Lowers/closes shades during the hottest hours of the day.

• Reduces the amount of solar heat (ultraviolet rays) entering the home by lowering the shade(s), keeping the room cooler in the hot summer months.

• Activates shade operation when solar energy at the window reaches the set thermal threshold level.

• Retains the cool air in a room by lowering the shade(s), saving on cooling costs in the summer.

WINTER MODE

• Raises/opens shades during the warmest times of the day.

• Closes shades automatically when the temperature drops outside, keeping the warm air inside.

• Allows for solar heat from the sun to enter a room through the window and warm the room in the cold winter months, saving on heating costs.

• Activates shade operation when solar energy at the window reaches the set thermal threshold level.

SOLAR SENSOR OPERATION

• One sensor unit controls a single shade or multiple shades in a group.

• For optimal energy savings, multiple sensors that are activated by the direction of the sunlight can be installed on different facades of the structure (home) to operate different groups of shades.

• Solar energy activation levels can be adjusted depending on preference and heat levels.

• Sensor safely mounts to the interior side of the window glass (inner-most window pane recommended).

• Placing the sensor in the center of the window of the programmed group is recommended for optimal signal detection.

• Shadows, low-e glass, window tinting, awnings, trees and window location can affect activation levels.

• Powered by one coin-cell battery.

• How many shades can be controlled from one LCD timer? The timer can operate a Platinum group of shades, which may be a single shade or multiple shades. There is no limit to the number of shades, as long as they are within the range of the timer unit.

• What is the operating range of the LCD timer? Like the Hunter Douglas Platinum remote and wireless wall switch, the operational range varies based on the environment. It should be able to communicate with all assigned shades within a room.

• Does the LCD timer have a vacation mode or “random” mode? Yes, the LCD timer features include a vacation mode setting that randomly adjusts your shades based on your pre-set times, so that to the casual observer, it will look as though someone is at home.

• How long do the two AAA batteries last? Approximately 18 months, depending on usage.

• How can I tell what level of solar energy will activate my shades?

When turning the adjustment wheel, the LED will be red if the current energy level is below the set number and will turn green if the current energy level goes above the set number.

• Can my RF adapter and solar energy sensor work with older Hunter Douglas PowerRise® products?

The RF adapter and solar energy sensor are recommended for use with the Hunter Douglas PowerRise 2.0 systems due to the improved signal reception and overall product reliability. While some older products may be controlled from either device, consumers may be unsatisfied with the operation results.

• The RF adapter plugs into a standard outlet. How much power does it require to operate? While the RF adapter plugs into a standard 110V outlet, it is actually powered by a single coin-cell battery.

• How long will the coin-cell battery in the RF adapter last, and where can I purchase a new battery? The battery life in the RF adapter should be approximately two years, depending on how often it is used. The type of battery is common and can be found at any location where batteries are sold.

• Can I control other devices using the RF adapter? The RF adapter is designed to work only with Hunter Douglas motorized products built with our patented Platinum Technology communication platform.

• How many shades can be controlled with one RF adapter? The RF adapter can operate a Platinum group of shades, which may be a single shade or multiple shades.

• What is the operating range of the RF adapter? Like the Hunter Douglas Platinum remote and wireless wall switch, the operational range varies based on the environment. It should be able to communicate with all assigned shades within a room.

• Can the RF adapter be used with a Z-wave lamp module so that I can operate my shades from my Z-wave remote? Yes, the RF adapter can be used with nearly any Z-wave lamp-dimming module (and transmitter) to control Hunter Douglas window coverings.

• How does the Platinum™ Technology solar energy sensor work? The Platinum Technology solar energy sensor senses incoming solar heat energy from the sun and moves shades to either block that heat from entering the room so the ambient temperature stays cool (summer mode) or allow the heat in to warm the room (winter mode).

• How does the sensor communicate with the shades? The sensor uses our patented Platinum Technology communication language to send information wirelessly to each shade. No line-of-sight is required.

• How many shades can be controlled with a single sensor? There is no limit to the number of shades that can be controlled, but they must be in range of the sensor(s). Since the sensor sends the communication signal via radio frequency (RF), operational distances will vary depending on household construction. All shades must be assigned to the same Platinum group from the same Platinum remote or wireless wall switch.

• Could shade movement trigger the motion sensors connected to a home alarm system? Yes, as with any movement detected by motion sensors, motorized shades that are operating within the sensor range could trigger an alarm system.
