The Limpopo Provincial Government says it strongly condemns the esca-lating gross vandalism and damage to public and private property by some members of the public during protests.

The Premier’s Offi ce says public protests in the province are becoming increasingly violent and these criminal activities overshadow the genuine concerns that are raised by members of the public.

It says residents of must work hand in hand with the Police as well as the Provincial Government to control criminal activities and to bring perpetrators to book.

The Premier, Mr Chupu Stanley Mathabatha says “traditional leaders, civic and religious leaders must work with communities and the police to restore order in the communities and to ensure that perpetrators face the full might of the law”.

The disruption of schooling in particular, will not be tolerated as this is a violation of children’s right to basic education and such a criminal activity.

A grim day arrived for the Brothers Grimm who crafted most of the original stories when Red Riding Hood chose the big bad wolf and Cinderella said goodbye to the prince to elope with a bunch of pirates. O, Grethel turned out to be Hansel’s girlfriend and Hansel picked a fi ght with her and chose the witch, while the ugly queen in Snow White trusted her tablet’s front camera and voice app to tell her whether she is beautiful or not... Die Jansen van Rensburg gesin het onlangs terug getrek Steelpoort toe, nadat hulle vir ‘n wyle in Phalaborwa gewoon het. Mieke (regs) wat in gr7 is, was in Phalaborwa as leier verkies en sy is nou by Steelpoort Akademie ook aangewys as leier. Haar sussie, Liebhe Jansen van Rensburg (gr6) is by Steelpoort Akademie as medialeier aangewys na sy in Phalaborwa ook ‘n medialeier was.

Creare Training Centre, a Christian arts School based in Bloemfon-tein, in co-operation with NG Kerk Burgersfort, Jesus Factor Youth and AGS Steelpoort presented the drama production “Blood Speaks” on the 4th of September in Steelpoort.

The production, which is based on the principles of forgiveness, peace and reconciliation was well attended with over 200 people and brought a fresh reminder of the importance of the blood of Christ bringing healing and restoration in families, marriages and individual lives. Volunteers and local school children were also incorporated into the production and a lot of effort and practice made it a “Great” success.

The Creare team consisted of twelve members who have been in the region for the last two weeks reaching out and encouraging schools in Burgersfort, Steelpoort, Riba Cross and surrounding areas, even as far as Orighstad. During last weeks outreaches over 3000 school pupils were reached and a message of hope and rec-onciliation was brought by the “Creare” team. These messages was brought to the kids and teens in an artistic way in the form of dance, mime, clowning and stories or parables. Creare Training Centre gives music classes on weekly basis at the NG Kerk in Burgersfort Tuesdays and in AGS Steelpoort on Wednesdays. On Sunday 6 September at about 18:55 a freight train on its way to Steelpoort derailed outside Burgers-fort at the Apiesdoring Station. The wagons were empty and the Transnet in a statement said that the root cause of the derailment is being investigated. The train was coming from Ohrigstad when the accident happened. The tracks were cleared by Tuesday afternoon.

Off track... 3 Arrested for possession of

daggaOn Firday 4 September the Burgersfort SAPS held a ‘Stop & Search’ campaign in Burgersfort.

They arrested 3 sus-pects who were charged with possession of dagga.

Two of the suspects, both men who are aged 38 and 23, were arrested at Castle Square. The one around 09:00 in the morn-ing and the other at 13:00.

A third suspect was ar-rested in the CBD at about 13:30. He is 27-years old.

They paid admission of guilt fi nes. The dagga was confi scated.

Suspected housebreak-ers caught red-handed

On 4 September a security guard patrolling on Motaganeng Eco Estate in Burgersfort saw a house with a broken window.

Upon investigation he found that the door was also broken. When he entered the house he saw two men with decorating lights.

He called the SAPS who managed to arrest the two suspects aged 25 and 27.

They are due to appear in court on charg-es of housebreaking and theft.

Axe murder in Apiesdoorn

A 27-year old man appeared in the Lyden-burg Magistrate’s Court for murder.

He allegedly killed his niece at Apies-doorn Village near Burgersfort with an axe. The incident happened on Friday 4 Septem-ber 2015.

Addressing lack of sanitation facilities at schools

The MEC for Education Ishmael Kgetjepe wants the department to speed up the provision of ablution facilities in schools. He has instructed the beginning of construction of ablution facilities at 26 schools around the province this month. This will mark the beginning of the construction pro-gramme aimed at reducing sanitation challenges in local schools. The department will build modern facilities suitable and conducive for provision of a safe environment. “We are providing top of the range fa-cilities for the safety of our schools’ envi-ronment” the MEC emphasised.

Leaking water a headache

A water leak in Ribbok Street behind Cash Build and Woodzone in Burgersfort is giving business owners in the area a headache. The leak has apparently been reported to Lepelle Northern Water various times with no response to have it fi xed. Not only is the road in a terrible shape (to which the leak contributed), but thou-sands of litres of water is wasted every day.

Modikwa Pla num Mine celebrated women in the work-place on Thursday, 3 September 2015.

The func on was originally scheduled for August, but due to unforeseen circumstances had to be moved to another date. The Mine however emphasised their com-mitment towards gender transforma on and equality by not cancelling the event, but only postponing it. The women were addressed by various colleagues, including

Mr. Tumi Molapo who was ac ng as Business Leader for the day. They were encouraged to take their place in the industry and show the world what women are made of.

Mini spring fashion show at Tubatse Crossing Mall

Tubatse Crossing Mall was fi lled with ex-citement on 5 September as a mini spring fashion show kept shoppers entertained.

This was all for a good cause too. The

Tubatse Crossing Marketing Division part-nered with 5 girls who are learners at Calvin College. The group calls themselves the “Limited Edition”.

The group is raising funds to buy a laptop that will rotate between them and will be used for school work. Tubatse Crossing’s market-ing division assisted them with linking up with a tenant - Ackerman’s - at the Mall whose clothes were showcased in the fashion show. Another show will be held on 12 September at Calvin College School Hall. Entrance of R10 for young children and R20 for adults will be charged.

After grade 12, the girls will be donating the laptop to a new deserving group.

“We as Tubatse Crossing Marketing divi-sion agreed to partner with the Limited Edi-tion, because we believe in supporting local schools, initiatives that groom young minds

Visiting Boerboomkraal farm school to

fi ght crimeThe Burgersfort SAPS Against Crime visited Boerboom-kraal farm school to celebrate Women’s Month.

The offi cers told the learners that the police offi cers are their friends and that they should work together to keep the area crime free. They were also encouraged to report any criminal activities and especially child abuse to the police. The theme of the day was: ‘Break the silence on child abuse’.

The police offi cers took along a cake which they shared with the learners in celebration of Women’s Month. Donations of care parcels were also made to learners. (Photographs & Information: Const. Victoria Maluleka, Burgersfort SAPS).

Honouring women and their contributionsThe Burgersfort SAPS ended Women’s Month on a high note with an awards ceremony. At the event women who contributed towards fi ghting crime in the area were honoured for their work. Those honoured included the manager of Kgakanyane Orphanage. She is one of the trusted pillars of support with providing a safe haven for needy or abused children who are awaiting the attention and direction from a social worker. Dr. Phiri was also one of the women honoured for her contributions and assistance to the Kgakanyane Orphanage. Mrs. Taslima of Shop and Save were recognised for her contributions in terms of volunteer-

ing to pay school fees for neeedy children. The SAPS recognised these women as a way to show appreciation for the work that they are doing in the community and in assisting the SAPS to do their work and fi ght crime. The event was hosted at Highlands College in Burgersfort and fea-tured a programme fi lled with various items, including entertainment such as dance, singing and poetry. The Burgersfort SAPS would like thank everyone who assisted them in organising this annual event.

Casual Day at Mototolo

Glencore’s Mototolo Mine had loads of fun while raising funds for a good cause. Employees celebrated Casual Day on 4 September 2015. R500 was raised and paid into the Casual Day fund. The imag-ination ran wild with anything from English Tea Ladies (and a gent) to Procure 2 Pay Fairies showing up for work.

Samancor ECM celebrates female

employeesSamancor ECM held their Women’s Day function on Friday last week.

The function was originally scheduled for August, but due to community un-rest had to be postponed. The women gathered at Winterveld Recreation Club where general manager, Mr. Emile Britz addressed them. He told them that he is proud of what they are achieving and that they should keep on believing in themselves. Local motivational speakers like Sara Tau, Const. Skosana, Sister Mdluli and Ms. Jaruska Warricker formed part of the programme. Dancing and fun was part of the day. The women also received a gift and were served braaivleis and side dishes in celebration.

More than 4000 entries for the 2016 Com-rades Marathon were received in the fi rst four days of September.

The three month long entry process opened on 1 September 2015.

The entry period will close on 30 No-vember 2015 or as soon as the entry cap of 20,000 has been reached. Prospective entrants are encouraged to get their en-tries in early to avoid disappointment.

South African runners will be eligible for the ‘early bird’ entry fee of R380 if their entry is received before 30 September 2015. The regular South African entry fee of R420 will kick in on 1 October 2015 until the entry process is closed.

Entry is free to all runners who have completed the Comrades Marathon 25 times or more.

The 91st Comrades Marathon will be a down-run on Sunday, 29 May 2016. The race starts at the Pietermaritzburg City

Hall at 05h30 and ends 12 hours later at the Saha-ra-Kingsmead Cricket Sta-dium in Durban, covering a distance of around 90km.

CMA Race Director, Rowyn James says, ‘Qualifying for the 2016 Comrades Marathon will be applicable from 30 Au-gust 2015 till 2 May 2016. Runners are advised that the 2015 Comrades Marathon will not be an automatic qualifi er for next year’s race.’

FC Kodi White Doves are preparing for the ABC Motsepe League’s 2015/2016 season.

“Last season was tough for us. We were not given time a season after we acquired the status from Waterberg region. So this season teams are going to feel the heat from the start on 4 October when we kickoff with the Nedbank Cup” said team owner Kodi. “We

have 90% experienced players from different ABC Motsepe Leagues and some from NFD, so watch this team in the PSL come 2018 season”. Their goalkeeper, Aubrey Masha has been preparing for the new season at the Jane Furse artifi cial pitch.

FC Kodi White Doves are aiming for the PSL

Enter the Two Countries Marathon - Zimbabwe to

South AfricaThe Two Countries Marathon 2015 will be taking place on 26 September 2015.

This unique marathon starts in Zimba-bwe and fi nishes in South Africa.

The event offers a 42,2km; 21,1km and 9km road races.

All entrants into the 42,2km race will be required to have a passport on race day. Only pre-entries will be able to participate in this section of the event. Runners will be making use of the com-pulsory free transport from Eric Louw High School in Musina to the start.

The 21,1km race will start at 07:00

and will fi nish at the Eric Louw High School. The 9km race will start at 07:30 and will fi nish at the same venue.

A total of R73 200 in cash prizes can be won.

The event will be hosted in accordance with the rules of IAAF, ASA and LIMA. It will be the 18th Musina Municipality Mayor’s race presented in conjunction with the Sout-pansberg Athletics Club.
