Objectives:

1. To make a negative (female mold) mold from the original object using fresh fruit (one part measured at least 6 inches) and produce a plaster casting mold.2. To produce faithfully the finest details and the deepest undercut and textural qualities from the original or master cast/fresh fruit model.3. To produce an in-the-round form using plaster mold cast from subject showing complex undercuts.4. To make plaster reproduction of the same subject/object.

KEY WORDS: PLASTER OF PARIS, CASTING, MOLD MAKING, UNDERCUTS, TEXTURAL QUALITIES, IRREGULAR FORM, NEGATIVE MOLD, POSITIVE MOLD and PLASTICINE. Materials:

Plaster of Paris (2 kg needed for next meeting), mixing containers (small rubber ball with about 1/4 part cut away making it into a rubber bowl), petroleum jelly (or other release agent), used prepaid cellphone cards or any thin plastic material from juice containers or aluminum foil, bamboo stick or disposable spoon for stirring, modeling clay/plasticine (at least 3 bars), cutter, painting brush (around ¾ inch wide, old newspaper to cover the table top, masking tape, apron or working clothes.

Requirements:

Read or view (youtube: plaster of Paris casting techniques or mold making using plater of Paris) any references about sculpture using plaster of Paris as medium. Specifically, about molding techniques.
