Brief HistoryBrief HistoryBrief HistoryBrief History Plas Muriau was built in 1850 for the Victorian gentlemanartist, George Popkin. Popkin knew David Cox, and in a memoirpublished in 1873 by Neil Solly, Popkin refers to having a sketchinglesson from David Cox at the table, and this may very well been at PlasMuriau. A few years later the property was taken on by William DruryLowe of Derbyshire, who commissioned a Florentine artist, PietroRomoli, to decorate the parlour ceiling in 1864. Plas Muriau ismentioned several times in the art historian Peter Lords book ClarenceWhaite and the Betws y Coed Artists Colony.Plas Muriau remained part of the Drury Lowe estate until early in the20th century and has changed hands only infrequently since then.
