Shoots System

• This system is composed of a stem(s), leaves, and flowers which are adapted for support, light acquisition, water transport, and reproduction

Leaves

• Composed of a flat thin Blade and an attaching Petiole and the site of Photosynthesis

• Leaf types include Simple and Compound Shapes, and Evergreen and Deciduous with regard to their seasonal presence of the plant

Roots System

• This system is composed of the roots which provide support and supply nutrients and water acquired from the soil

• Root types include a Primary and Lateral Roots

Plant Tissues

• Ground TissueComposes the bulk of the plant and is general in function

• Vascular TissueAdapted for the transport of nutrients, water, and photosynthetic products

• Dermal TissueCovers and protects the plant from water loss and surrounding environment

Simple Tissues

Are tissues composed of one cell type

• ParenchymaFound in areas of primary growth, and also aids in storage and secretion

• CollenchymaProvides flexible support for primary tissue

• ScerenchymaSupport mature plant parts and protects seeds

Complex Tissues

Are organized arrays of two or more cell types

• Vascular Tissue• Dermal Tissue
