Ritch and I would like to thank everyone for their prayers and support during Ritch’s absence from the office. Unfortunately he will be undergoing another sur-

gery March 9th. We are fully con-fident that he is in God hands. I will continue to keep you updat-ed on his progress. Judy will be available at the front office regu-lar hours and I will continue to work several days a week from home. We have a lot of things in progress and look forward to all we can accomplish as a commu-

nity.

DOG PARK

Thanks for all the resident sug-gestions on the location of the dog park. We are happy to an-

nounce construction has begun. It will be located at the site of the current pet exercise run, on the north side of the clubhouse. The expected completion date is mid May. Just in time for Summer.

CLUBHOUSE SOUND

SYSTEM We have heard you! We are in

the process of upgrading the PA sound system in the clubhouse. This is a multi phase upgrade, but the PA system should be

completed by the end of March. This upgrade should make is

easier for speaker’s to be heard clearly during events like BINGO

and resident presentations.

ICE CREAM SOCIAL We are happy to announce our

first monthly community birthday/anniversary celebration. Murex

and PORA are co sponsoring the monthly social and it is FREE to

all residents.

PORA PRESIDENT”S REPORT

To Plantation Oaks Residents,

I am honored and humbled to be elected to serve on the Plantation Oaks Residence Association board and also for being given the oppor-tunity to serve as president. My wife, Jo Ann and I moved here only a short time ago and are both grateful for the opportunity to help the community. From the first day that we visited Plantation Oaks we fell in love with the people here and their sense of community.

The Resident Association board is looking forward to a wonderful year. We would like to join the rest of the community in making Planta-tion Oaks a great place to live and help to rekindle the spirit that has been part of this great neighbor-hood for years.

Mission Statement: To provide emergency assistance to our com-munity when State/Local emer-gency services are delayed or oth-erwise unavailable. All residents are invited to regis-ter with us any special needs or emergency assistance you (or someone you know) may require in the aftermath of a catastrophic event. Our last meeting was on February 2 in the clubhouse. Our next scheduled meeting is Friday, March 9th at 11:30 am in the club-house, all are welcome. We dis-cuses protocols and future needs so we will be prepared and ready to help the community should the need arises.

Chinese Auction scheduled for March 3rd. Doors open 10am – 2pm, to buy tickets, and pick out your treasures. Ticket sales end at 2pm and drawing for winners start at 2:15pm. Must be present to win or leave your tickets with someone to claim item/s on your behalf. Food and beverages will be on sale during event.

2. GPS: Someone had their car broken into while they were at a foot-ball game. Their car was parked on the green which was adja-cent to the football stadium and specially allotted to foot-ball fans. Things stolen from the car included a garage door remote control, some money and a GPS which had been prominently mounted on the dashboard. When the victims got home, they found that their house had been ransacked and just about everything worth anything had been sto-len. The thieves had used the GPS to guide them to the house. They then used the gar-age remote control to open the garage door and gain entry to the house. The thieves knew the owners were at the football game, they knew what time the game was scheduled to finish and so they knew how much time they had to clean out the house. It would appear that they had brought a truck to empty the house of its contents. Some-thing to consider if you have a GPS - don't put your home ad-dress in it. Put a nearby ad-dress (like a store or gas sta-tion) so you can still find your way home if you need to, but no one else would know where you live if your GPS were sto-len. NOT ALL THIEVES ARE STUPID

Submitted by John Mercurio 1.LONG - TERM PARKING Some people left their car in the long-term parking at San Jose while away, and someone broke into the car. Using the information on the car's registration in the glove compartment, they drove the car to the people's home in Pebble Beach and robbed it. So I guess if we are going to leave the car in long-term parking, we should NOT leave the registra-tion/insurance cards in it, nor your remote garage door opener. This gives us something to think about with all our new electronic tech-nology.

Brussels Sprout and Carrot Salad with Cara Cara, Avocado, and Or-ange Tahini Dressing

serves 4 to 6 as a side

A note on shaving Brussels sprouts––it’s best done with a mandoline or with a very sharp knife. Either way, be very, very careful because I like you and your fingers. The carrots are easily cut into ribbons with a peeler.

for the orange tahini dressing 3 tablespoons tahini 2 tablespoons olive oil 1/4 cup fresh squeezed orange juice 1 teaspoon maple syrup 1/2 teaspoon sea salt 1/2 teaspoon red chili paste 1/4 teaspoon ground coriander

Either in a blender or with a fork, whisk the ol-ive oil into the tahini, and then blend in the or-ange juice, maple syrup, sea salt, chili paste, and coriander. Thin with water or more orange juice if needed. for the salad 2 cups shaved Brussels sprouts 3 carrots, trimmed and peeled into ribbons 1/2 a red onion, sliced paper thin 3 Cara Cara oranges 1 avocado, peeled and sliced

Place the shaved Brussels sprouts, carrot ribbons, and red onion in a bowl and drizzle with half the dress-ing, turning to combine. Set aside while you prepare the remaining ingredients.

Zest one of the oranges and set aside. Use a sharp knife to trim the top and bottom off the oranges, and then, working your way around, slice off the peels. Slice oranges into 1/2 inch thick rounds. Slice the avoca-do. Layer the orange and avocado slices into the shaved vegetables. Drizzle with the remaining dressing, using your hands to better incorporate it, and finish with the reserved orange zest.

Social Committee Report: Your social club is off to a great start in 2018. We have a Social event board now in the main hall of the Clubhouse. It is next to the fax machine. Janet & Lenny Springer have done an awesome job putting it together. Please check it out. January 26th was our annual Chili Cook off, with a great turnout. We had 14 chili entries with 3 winners. First place went to Lenny Springer, 2nd place went to JoAnne Bailey, 3rd, place went to Ken Copeland. We had a good turnout for the first, 2018 Ice Cream Social on 1/28. Starting in Feb-ruary we will add cake to the ice cream social and celebrate Birthdays & Anniversaries. The celebration will be free to all Residents!! Come join us in the celebration on the last Sunday of the month. February has been a very busy month. 2/10 Carl Monte played to a sold out crowd for the Valentines dance. Thanks to Norm and Helen for hosting and do-ing a fantastic job as always. Everyone had a wonderful time. On 2/13 there was a Coffee & Donuts at the club-house. On 2/16 was the Fish Fry. Best Fried Fish in Flagler Beach, was right here at PO. The Tim Rippy, dance on 2/23 has been sold out too! Don’t for-get Saturday 2/24, Breakfast at the CH. Upcoming in March: On the 3rd, Chinese Auction, 5th – 9th , pictures will be taken for the pictorial directo-ry. The 17th, St. Patrick’s Day Dinner, 25th, Birthday/Anniversary celebra-tion, 31st, dance with Solid Gold. This truly is an Active Adult Community! Army Veteran Ron Harper Passed away in January. He and his wife Lee moved into Plantation Oaks in October 2017.


A Caring Community Ed and I have lived here since 2013 coming from Pa. He did a lot of handyman work in the community and seeing his white van on the streets was common. We were snow birds owning a fifth wheel on a beautiful site in a Lancaster area campground. You can see pictures of this on RV trader where it has been listed for sale. On October 9, our lives changed completely. Ed had a severe stroke on that day and he hasn’t been home since except for day vis-its. We had a block party on Octo-ber 15 for Julip Lane where I was able to spend time with all our street neighbors. These neighbors and many other in the community never fail to ask how Ed is doing. They are a continual emotional support for me when they tell me he and I are in the thoughts and prayers. The sup-port has gone beyond words to ac-tions. Paul is trimming his hedges next door so he just comes over and trims mine for me Pat and Paul take me to the eye doctor because I can-

not drive home after the treat-ment. Sue lends me her hand-icap items and always has helpful suggestions. Tom is trying to get the handicap ramp to stay put so I can get Ed up and into the house in his wheel chair. These are just a few ex-amples of the love and support we both feel from this commu-nity. Sam, Bob, Dennis, and others have visited Ed. Fortunately, we have two chil-dren not to far away in Central Florida, and two more in Pa. They too have really been supportive. My son Russell, goes to see his pop and makes him do things he did not try before. My daughter in Pa. Christina is helping me with the sale of the RV in Pa. My other daughter Amber is a Dr. of Physical therapy so she sends excerise and equip-ment for her pop to use to in-crease his mobility. He is the step dad to these children and it is a blessing to see how

much they love him. My oldest daughter , Kathy, helps me to stay focused and not overwhelmed by her practical suggestions. Between friends, neighbors, our family of faith we are surrounded by love and sup-port. I believe that God wants Ed’s faith to be built up and for him to have a full restoration and that is the way we are praying and believing. My hope and faith is that he will make gains in mobility soon so I can bring him home. Thanks so much for be-ing a loving and caring community for us. Carol Eppinger
