The horror genre was one of the first ideas that came into my mind when choosing a genre for my trailer. Firstly it is a very popular genre and attracts a very wide audience and secondly it is a very easy genre to produce.

The standard conventions of the genre include: Darkness, suspense, bloodshed, good vs bad etc.

Possible storyline: A couple go on holiday for the weekend, they arrive at the B&B where they will be staying. They notice the surroundings seem very barren and feel intimidated by this. They then tour the area and on this journey their nightmare begins. Will they ever see the light of dawn again or do they come out victorious in the battle against the paranormal. The wife of the husband is in fact very familiar to the surroundings as it was her childhood home and she has bought her husband here without telling him to find the cause of her mom’s sudden and unexplainable death. Religious priests have told her it was due to the existence of the paranormal who were after her mother who killed her husband for money. The paranormal are relatives of the deceased who the ladies mother killed.

Despite being the most easiest genre to create I have decided against making the horror genre as I feel as if I do not have the right props and locations available for me to use. Without the right props my trailer will not look good or effective. Despite being a popular genre to create, I decided against making this my final choice in terms of genre. I done this because while researching Horror, I found that most horror films nowadays are being converged with the Sci - Fi genre, which makes it more complicated in terms of props, characters and in general to produce. Also I found while researching that despite being quite popular, horror films are now in slow decline due to the gruelling and sickening scenes from other horror films such as SAW, The Grudge and many more. So after weighing the pros and cons it was an easy decision to not choose horror as a genre to create my media trailer after. Also a lot of my peers had chosen this genre so I wanted my trailer to be unique.

Despite being a popular genre to create, I decided against making this my final choice in terms of genre. The Action genre was the most appealing genre to me as it is the genre that I enjoy and watch the most. It is also the most popular type of genre out there at the moment.

The standard conventions include: fast paced action, bloodshed, hero and villain, good vs bad etc.

Possible storyline: Based on greed and desire. Two brothers whose dad has passed away and left everything in the elder brother’s name. Since they were small the two brothers would have a cycle race annually and whoever wins would have a party thrown for them to celebrate their success. The big brother always won in these races, and the little brother failed in all his attempts. The big brother always thought about winning, but the little brother always thought about defeating his big brother, not winning he just wanted to beat him. The big brother however has immense love for his brother, whereas the little brother has pure hatred for him as he has all the wealth in his name. He just shows fake love. The little brother lives a chilled out life, drinking, smoking and partying, he lives off his big brother. The big brother runs the business and the house, he is more responsible. The two brothers are very intelligent and smart. The little brothers hatred for his elder brother results in him attempting to kill him via another source, his attempt is unsuccessful, as his brother only gets injured in the car crash. While in hospital the elder brother overhears the little brother talking to the contractor who attempted to kill him. This is when the race for life begins. As the little brother makes a plan to kill him, the big brother over watches every move of his younger brother. He allows his plans to work, but he also makes a plan of his own which will instead deceive the little brother and catch him out. After confronting him, he tries to make his brother understand but fails. So he gives his brother one last chance to have a race with him and whoever wins takes all. This being a car race, the twists and turns take place right till the death of one of the brothers, but who will survive in the race for life.

After assessing the genre I have decided upon creating and Action based trailer, as it is the most thrilling type of genre and a very appealing genre. Despite the conventions of the genre and the props and locations which are going to be hard to get I still believe this genre is the best around and will attract a very wide audience.

This genre was another one I had in mind to replicate. The storylines are pretty much the same and it would not have been hard to create. The only problems would have been, how to implicate the standard conventions into the trailer. Trying to replicate the intimate and love scenes would have been almost impossible and these are the main scenes of the trailer on the whole.

Standard conventions include: Intimate scenes, love, arguments man and woman etc.

Possible storyline: A man and woman meet at the marriage ceremony of their friends. Love at first sight, they then date, get intimate. Complications occur due to the complicated hours at their respective jobs. Their friends resolve the issues and they then get married and live happily ever after.

I have decided against creating a Romance trailer as it would be too hard to create and also after asking my peers they said they would not volunteer to partake in my trailer. I decided against choosing the romantic genre because despite being quite popular they are quite biased towards the female genre. This genre is mainly aimed at females as they have perceptions of the perfect and most romantic relationships. This therefore will detract the male audience as they will automatically feel not targeted by the movie and may potentially decide not to watch the movie after all.

My final choice in terms of genre was the action genre. This due to action being my favourite genre and also as they are the most captivating films and really draw interest from the target audience. They are fast paced movies with an understandable storyline, compared to other popular genres such as horror, romantic comedies and Sci-Fi, which can be quite confusing and hard to understand the storyline. Despite being a hard and complicated genre to create and produce, action films will always prosper from the other genres as they are very popular and pulsating to the viewers. Action genres have also been found to relieve stress and calm people down to the fast paced nature of the films and also due to the standard conventions of the film where the good overcomes evil. After assessing all these points which I have concluded from my own views and from the research, I believe that the action genre is the most advantageous genre to create in terms of viewers, popularity and financially they make a lot of money.
