Development Aims

 Revitalise this unique building

 Re-establish it as the town’s social, cultural and architectural centrepiece

 Provide modern facilities for the community and visitors

 Preserve its heritage



Achieving the Aims

 Raising the community’s awareness: o  Increased marketing (targeting opportunities such as Giffords

Circus, School & Country Fayres and theatre groups)

o  Involving a broader demographic o Review of the hiring prices

 Bid to Heritage Lottery Fund



Heritage Lottery Funding (HLF)

 Heritage Grants Programme is for larger heritage projects of any kind (generally over £100,000)

 Contributions

–  Total grant request < £1million •  Contribute at least 5% of the costs of development phase •  Contribute 5% of the costs of your delivery phase

–  Total grant request > £1million •  Contribute at least 10% of the costs of development phase •  Contribute 10% of the costs of delivery phase

First-‐round Applica1on

• Apply for development grant.

Development Phase

• If successful, develop more detailed second-‐round applica:on, using the development grant.

Second-‐round Applica1on

• Submit second-‐round applica:on with delivery-‐grant request.

Delivery Phase

• Awarded a grant, enter delivery phase and start project using the delivery grant.

Public Consultation Results…   206 returned questionnaires and from these it is clear that

Minchinhampton residents/users of the Market House feel strongly about its future and the proposed alterations.

  The ‘best’ things about the Market House were deemed to be:   central location & the visual appeal of it;

  that the people of Minchinhampton own it and can use it;

  its history.

  The ‘worst’ things about the Market House are issues regarding:   toilets;

  people who loiter and drink alcohol in the undercroft;

  entrance and access.



…Public Consultation Results   Awareness of activities - highest for Art Classes, Folk and Theatre

Nights.

  Glassing-in undercroft - majority of respondents (105 people) in favour (either partially or wholly) in order to make this area a more usable space, while 77 people dislike the idea, although some of these said that partial glassing in might be ok.

  Modernising toilets - majority of respondents in favour (further debate required about their relocation).

  Installation of a lift - majority are in favour (more discussion needed around location and cost).

  Importance of providing a stage – mixed reaction (50:50)

Business Plans Aims   Partnering with the National Trust (to provide information and education

centre for the local common)

  Information Centre (for amenities, local events and businesses; heritage of Parish)

  Supporting the Parish Council (by providing offices and a public meeting space)

  For use by touring performing-arts groups (by development of the existing stage and theatrical facilities)

  Use as a gallery venue in the Cotswolds (for arts and crafts – supporting local artists)

  As a modern day market place (extending the current weekly market to offering daily display and sales space for all home craft workers)

  As a flexible hiring space (for clubs, societies, parties and classes ranging from Zumba fitness to literary lunches, wedding receptions to evening dinners; exhibitions)

  Short term business meeting venue for hire (complete with modern business facilities)
