A Message from Greg GicziPresident and GM, WNIT Public Television
Dear WNIT Supporters:
We can all take a deep breath now that the new episodes of Downton Abbey have premiered! It seems “D.A.” was a frequent topic at the holiday parties I attended in December – there was much anticipation for the new episodes. anks to all of you for your enthusiasm, viewership and support of Michiana PBS, WNIT.
During December, we sent out a letter asking you to consider an end-of-year additional gi to WNIT. Many of you responded. ank you! is additional gi allowed us to purchase some extra programming which you will soon see. One of those programs, Father Brown, is a series of British mysteries based on the character created by novelist G.K. Chesterton. Look for our On e Cover article in this edition of the WNIT Planner. Father Brown begins ursday, March 19 at 8pm on WNIT.
March is a big month for some great additional programs to please regular viewers and attract new ones. Although launched on February 28, My Music Presents: Motown 25 is a fun-fun show that will put a smile on your face and a beat in your step. We have scheduled it a few times during March. e Texas Tenors: You Should Dream special returns during the rst part of the month. ey put on a great concert in Shipshewana last August and WNIT viewers had the best seats. ey will return to the area at Elkhart’s Lerner eater on May 17, and we will have prime seat tickets as well as a limited supply of passes to meet the Texas Tenors before the show. Also, Michiana PBS, WNIT, will air the entire four part series e Italian Americans, Sunday, March 15.
Sadly, cancer seems to touch every family. Ken Burns’ new documentary Cancer, e Emperor of All Maladies comes to WNIT as a 3-part series on March 30-31 and April 1. is production is a riveting historical documentary, an engrossing and intimate verity lm, and a scientic and investigative report. It is enthralling, emotional and important to see.
Finally, I want to call your attention to one particular documentary that is one in a series of veteran-related documentaries you will see on Michiana PBS, WNIT, in the next year plus. American Experience: Last Days in Vietnam airs Tuesday, April 28. I saw some early clips of this program almost a year ago. It is very powerful.
I can’t seem to stop talking about all the great programming coming our way in the next few months. Please take advantage of it! ank you to everyone for your viewership and support. All these good things happen because of you.
Sincerely,
Greg Giczi President & General Manager

In MemoriamJames N. Bieneman WNIT would like to honor the memory of James N. Bieneman, who passed on January 31, 2015. Jim was very supportive of the WNIT Directors’ Circle and a great family man and friend. He was a lifelong summer resident on Diamond Lake in Cassopolis, MI and a man of many interests including sailing, hiking, competitive squash, golf and biking. WNIT extends its condolences to the family and is honored to have known Jim and benetted from his support.
Dr. Dane MillerWNIT lost a great friend, supporter and advocate for Public Television with the passing of Dr. Dane Miller on February 10, 2015. roughout the years Dr. Dane and Mary Louise have been instrumental in making WNIT what it is today. WNIT sends its deepest condolences to Mary Louise and the entire Miller family. We are honored to have known him and felt the love, support and generosity that he provided this station and community for many, many years.
Jane WarnerWNIT was saddened at the passing of founding board member Jane (Mrs. E. Blair) Warner. Jane worked tirelessly to help establish WNIT Public Television and her spirit of creativity, energy and great fun helped make WNIT the station it is today. We are grateful for all she did over 40 years ago to launch public television in Michiana, and for the lasting eects her legacy will continue to have on this station and the Michiana community. WNIT extends its deepest condolences to the entire Warner family and its most sincere thanks for all she has done.

American Experience Presents Academy Award® Nominated Documentary Last Days in VietnamDuring the chaotic nal days of the American involvement in the Vietnam War, as the North Vietnamese Army closed in on Saigon, South Vietnamese resistance crumbled. City aer city and village aer village fell to the North while the U.S. diplomats and military opera-tives still in the country contemplated withdrawal. With the lives of thousands of South Vietnamese hanging in the balance, those in con-trol faced an impossible decision—who would go and who would be le behind to face brutality, imprisonment, or even death. At the risk of their careers and possible court-martial, a handful of individuals took matters into their own hands. Engaging in unsanctioned and of-ten makeshi operations, they waged a desperate eort to evacuate as many South Vietnamese as possible.
Last Days in Vietnam premieres Tuesday, April 28th at 9pm on WNIT.
New Ken Burns Film, Cancer: e Emperor of All Maladies to Air March 30-April 1Cancer: e Emperor Of All Maladies tells the comprehensive story of cancer, from its rst description in an ancient Egyptian scroll to the gleaming laboratories of modern research institutions. At six hours, the lm interweaves a sweeping historical narrative with inti-mate stories about contemporary patients, and an investigation into the latest scientic breakthroughs that may have brought us, at long last, within sight of lasting cures. Based on the Pulitzer Prize-winning book e Emperor of All Maladies: A Biography of Cancer by Siddhar-tha Mukherjee, M.D., this three-part major television event artfully weaves three dierent lms in one: a riveting historical documentary; an engrossing and intimate vérité lm; and a scientic and investiga-tive report.
Watch Cancer: e Emperor of All Maladies March 30- April 1 on WNIT.
WNIT and the University of Notre Dame Form New Partnership!WNIT is proud to announce a newly formed partnership with the University of Notre Dame. New technology between both WNIT and Notre Dame has allowed both entities the opportunity to share and provide, between one another, new programs to Michiana area residents. Greg Giczi, President & General Manager of WNIT said, “WNIT is excited by this new interconnection between the Univer-sity of Notre Dame and the WNIT Center for Public Media. is ber optic link and partnership with WNIT will allow the University to extend its rich educational and cultural programs beyond a campus auditorium to all of Michiana. As we take these initial small steps we look forward to expanded oerings.”
If you would like to receive program updates and new information on this partnership please send your email address to [email protected].
