Show the Love…How to f ind the right person to pronounce

you husband and wife

Your wedding ceremony is the beginning of your married life and should therefore showcase the love that you and your partner share. It is undoubtedly the most importantpart of your wedding celebrations. Your celebrant plays a huge role in the ceremony and the overall atmosphere that it has. They should be able to help you decide what is relevant and what is not to ensure your ceremony captures both you and your partner’s desires that you may not even realise you have. The Sunshine Coast is home to an extensive and varied range of celebrants, but finding the right one could be harder than you think.!!

Choosing the right celebrant is a big decision as they all have their own signature style. Some celebrants are very traditional, whereas others will design a unique ceremony for you. It’s important to meet with your potential celebrant before booking anything in. You can ask the marriage celebrant at your initial consultation what you can expect from their services, this way you can get an idea as to the type and way they will present the ceremony. !!

When you meet the right celebrant you will find that you have a certain kind of chemistry. If you do not have this connection then they may not be the person best suited for the big day, as without it creating what it is you desire may be difficult. Your celebrant should be able to work with you as a team to ensure the overall outcome of the ceremony is exactly what you envisioned.!!

Your celebrant should be able to help you and your partner design a ceremony that reflects both you as a couple and individually. Your thoughts and beliefs should be embedded into the ceremony in a creative and unique way. A great way to personalise your wedding ceremony is by writing your own vows, you can talk to your celebrant to get some advice on how you can bring more intimacy into the order of service.!

The right celebrant for you will be someone that you can trust to deliver a ceremony that represents both the past and future journey that you and your partner will embark on together. So take the time to find the person that will ensure that the ceremony and the order of service fulfils all of your hopes and dreams. And just like every other feature of your wedding that you plan; your ceremony is a great chance to show the love and have an amazing time doing so.

Let Me Entertain You...

Let’s help make this simple…. !!When it comes to picking “your” song some couples just know, they don't even have to tell each other what the name of the song is…they just know. For other couples finding “their song” adds so much pressure to their wedding day. You may want it to be slow and romantic, maybe it's gentle and whimsical, maybe it's upbeat and rockin’ but let me tell you if you don't already know it, the choice is endless. !We have put together a short list of songs for your ceremony and reception to help you along the “our song” musical highway.

Classical Wedding Ceremony Music "Coronation March for Czar Alexander III"

(Peter I. Tchaikovsky)

"Overture" (from Royal Fireworks Music), (George Frederic Handel)

"Toccata" (from L'Orfeo), (Claudio Monteverdi)

"Romance from String Quartet", (Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart)

Contemporary Wedding Ceremony Songs "At Last" (Etta James)

"Only Time" (Enya)

"Come Away With Me" (Norah Jones)

"Appalachia Waltz" (Yo-Yo Ma, Edgar Meyer, Mark O'Connor)

Getting ready for your wedding day doesn’t take hours it take months. If you are wanting to be your most perfect self on your wedding day we have outlined some good things to get started with.!!6 months before!! Drink Water - we all know that drinking water is the key to great looking skin, so what is stopping you? Get ! started now and you will have glowing skin and your eyes will sparkle. Ok fill up those water bottles now!!!! Skincare Regime - if you have problem skin or have never given it much thought, then work out what is best for ! your skin type and stick to it!!!! Wedding Day Make Up - most brides find on their wedding day nerves take over and the pressure of getting their ! make up just right is too much to bear. Plan ahead and check out makeup artists in your !area. Booking !! someone from outside of your area may cause extra stress on your day if they run late due to traffic. Organise ! to do a trial with them and don't be afraid to tell them if you like it or not.!!3 months before!! Skincare Routine for your whole body - wearing a backless or strapless wedding dress? Then you want silky ! smooth skin. A gentle body scrub twice a week for the few months before will make such a difference. Don’t ! forget when you get out of the shower each day lather yourself with body moisturiser- it may add an extra couple ! of minutes to your daily routine but the results will be worth it in the long run.!!! Plan ahead - there is nothing bridezilla about being organised. Book in your beauty appointments now, you know ! your schedule for the week of your wedding and leaving it too long may involve your manicure being done at ! 6.30pm the night before your wedding. Book and plan your time so you get to enjoy the days leading up to your ! wedding.!!! Book in your facials - if you are going to have flawless skin on your wedding day, don't book your first facial the ! week of your wedding. Chat with your beautician and plan a few visits in the three months before.!!! To Tan or Not to Tan - if you are thinking about it have a couple of trials, test out the best colour for your skin tone ! and for the time of year. Looking like you are sun kissed is one thing but having a full on !Caribbean tan for your ! winter wedding would not look so good.!!2 months before!!! Choose your perfume - it may not be the first thing you think about when planning your wedding beauty checklist. ! Just remember that precious memories often include the way things smell. Make sure your perfume fits the ! occasion and that scent will become part of your treasured memories.!!1 month before!! !! Final make up trial - this is it one month before, book your make up & hair trial on the same day and this way you ! can start to visualise your overall look on your wedding day. One month before still allows plenty of time for last ! minute adjustments without too much stress.!!! Time for a pedicure - book in and take some time to look after your feet, it will feel great and you will get to relax ! for 1 hour while it is being done.!!! Relax Relax Relax - go for a walk, take your dog down to the beach, meet a friend for coffee (and don't talk about ! the wedding) or have a massage. Try to do this a couple of times in this last month, it will help your stress levels ! and you will then be able to really enjoy your wedding day.!

Looking Your Best…

Wedding Dress Workout

Since it's all about the dress, tailor your workout towards what you're wearing. Once you have selected your wedding gown style then pick a workout from the list below and follow the instructions to achieve a hotter you.

If you're not a gym member, invest in a set of 10- or 20-kilogram hand weights, then establish an every-other-day weight training routine (muscles need to rest a day to repair). For each of these exercises, start off with two sets, then increase to three as you get stronger.

Working out is always better done with friends so in list the girls in your bridal party to work out with you.

!

The sheath workout - What you want: A sleek, smooth torso for even the slinkiest sheath.Twists • Stand with feet hip-width apart and knees slightly bent. Imagine you are holding a ball in between your

thighs. Squeeze your thigh muscles, then pull in your belly and tuck it under your pelvis (so you're in a slight sitting position). Lace your fingers together and place your hands behind your head.

• Keeping your chest high, slowly twist from side to side without moving your lower body, so that your

upper body turns from left to right. Keep it slow; you won't get the full benefit if you're relying on momentum to get you around. Repeat 40 times. Yep, you heard us right: 40!

Standing side crunches

• Stand in the same position as you did for the twist, with your abs tucked in and your toes facing forwards (but drop the imaginary ball).

• Lift your left knee towards your left arm, bringing your elbow down to meet it. Hold, then return to the starting position. Repeat on the right and do a total of 20 repetitions on each side.

Page 41: Plan My Wedding Magazine Spring 2014

Page !41

The open-back dress workout - What you want: An upper- and lower-back workout to help firm up that all-important rear view. !One-arm rows • Stand with your left side next to the front of a bench (or a coffee table or couch). Place your left foot

and left hand on the bench, bending your right knee. Keeping your torso parallel to the ground, hold a dumbbell in your right hand. Let your arm hang straight down with your palm facing your thigh.

• Slowly pull the dumbbell up and back until it is in line with your hip. You should feel a muscle contraction in your upper back (that means it's working!). Repeat 10 times, then switch sides.

Pullovers

• Lie on the floor with your knees bent, hip-width apart, and your feet flat on the floor. Hold a dumbbell in each hand and extend your arms up over your body, so that your arms form a 90-degree angle with your torso.

• Keeping your elbows slightly bent, slowly lower the dumbbells back behind your head as far as you can. You should feel a stretch in your back muscles. Next, lift the dumbbells back into the starting position above your body, squeezing your back muscles as you go. Do 10 repetitions per set. !!

The strapless dress workout What you want: Toned triceps, biceps and pectorals to really strut your strapless stuff.!

Bicep curls

• Standing with your feet hip-width apart and knees slightly bent, pull in your stomach and tuck your pelvis under. Hold a heavier pair of dumbbells at your sides, palms facing forward.

• Keeping your elbows close to your sides, slowly curl the dumbbells towards your shoulders. Then reverse direction and lower the dumbbells to the starting position. Avoid locking your elbows. Do 10 repetitions per set. Slow and steady wins the race here: you'll get a bigger benefit from this exercise if you use concentrated, controlled movements. If you feel as though you're whipping the weights around to get them up, your dumbbells are too heavy. Downgrade to a lighter weight so that you can move more comfortably. !

Flat dumbbell flys

• Lie on the floor with your knees bent and your feet flat on the floor, shoulder-width apart. Stretch out your arms on the floor so your body makes a T. Hold a dumbbell in each outstretched hand, keeping your elbows slightly bent. Keep your palms facing up towards the ceiling.

• Slowly raise the weights upward in a rounded arc (as if you were hugging a tree), gently touching the dumbbells together at the top above your body. Hold for a few seconds, then slowly lower the weights back to their starting positions. Do 10 repetitions per set. !

Tricep dips

• Sit on a sturdy, non-wheeled chair. Place your hands on the front edge of the seat, fingertips facing forward. Keep your feet flat on the floor, hip-width apart and out in front of you. Slowly slide your bottom off the seat of the chair, keeping your hands where they are.

• Keeping your arms close to your body, bend your elbows until your upper arms are parallel to the floor, allowing your buttocks to descend past the edge of the chair. Using your arms to lift you, reverse direction and push yourself back up to the point at which your arms are straight. Work up to 15 dips per set.

The Greatly Anticipated Reemergence of Glamour Glamour is going to be in fine form for 2015 with the return of this iconic bridal style. Picture a 1920s theme with blush and champagne, stunning candelabras and lush flower arrangements. Luminous metallics will take centre stage alongside vintage luxe vases creating a Cinderella moment like no other.

This styling trend for 2015 is going to be big on soft pastels, navy and alluring metallic colours. Think of the high end vintage of Downton Abbey combined with immense amounts of the glam and glitz of The Great Gatsby and you have next year’s bridal style.

Your wedding theme should reflect both you and your partner’s personalities and showcase the love that you both share. The sheer amount of glamour that you bring to your big day is completely up to you. It can be incorporated into your centre pieces and decorations, cake, bridal gown or even your stationary with nothing off limits to this bold theme.

This style is all about statement pieces that evoke glitz and glamour while being pleasantly modest. There will still be a hint of the bespoke vintage that has taken the wedding world by storm in the past. Rustic vintage will still hold a place in many hearts but the lime light will be shinning brightly on the emerging glamorously vintage style.

2015 is going to be full of great wedding styling moments, however the reemergence of glamour is going to be front row and centre.

When is a dress not just a dress? !The first thing you should do before actually heading to the bridal shop is get an idea about which style of wedding gown you prefer. You will need to get familiar with wedding gown terminology and styles. Here are some general guidelines to help you get started on the road to wedding day bliss.!!!!!!A-line!The A-line or princess dress has no marked waist and the vertical seams flow from the shoulders down to a flared skirt, creating an "A" shape. If you carry your weight in the middle, this silhouette is a nice choice.!!!!!!!

!!!!!Ball gown! These gowns are normally quite formal, reminding you of Cinderella. The bodice is fitted with a very full skirt. Ball gowns can be long-sleeved, sleeveless or anywhere in between. The full skirt of a ball gown can hide large hips and thighs.!!!!!

Page 49: Plan My Wedding Magazine Spring 2014

Page !49

!!Empire!Empire gowns have a raised waistline that starts right under the bust, flowing to a skirt that skims over the hips then flairs slightly to the floor. This romantic silhouette is flattering to most body types and is particularly flattering to small-breasted women.!!!!!! ! !!!!!!!!!!!

Mermaid! As the name indicates, the mermaid dress is contoured against the body then the gown flows out beginning around the knees. This is the sexiest of the styles. If you're confident in your body, a mermaid dress can show off your curves.!!!!!!!!!!!!

Sheath! The sheath or column dress has a slim shape that follows close to the line of the body. The straight design doesn't allow for many body flaws. The long lines of a sheath gown can elongate the look of your body. Therefore this type of dress can work well for short brides.!!

"Why is wedding photography so freakin’ expensive? You may think that wedding photography is pretty easy money - work for one day and rake in the cash, right? But you will find that most full time professionals carry over $15,000 worth of wedding gear and often work long hours each week to edit and produce your wedding memories. A good photographer will take approximately 600 images and each image is carefully looked at and edited to be picture perfect. They will meet with you prior to your wedding to get to know you and to get a feel for how you want your wedding day captured. Then after the wedding they meet with you to go through the images and work out which ones would be best in your album (my advice get the album…my photos are still sitting in a draw after many many years of marriage - life gets busy and you never get back to doing it). "I keep hearing about “shoot and burn” photography…what is it? Sounds painful? Well it can be… “Shoot and burn” is slang for photographers who takes your wedding images and burns it straight to a CD with out any post-editing. They are usually very inexpensive but this is why. There is no correction for bad lighting, any odd things images are not removed, there is no colour correction and basically your images are not shown the love they sometimes need to make them spectacular.

Lights, Camera, Action!

We have listed below the top questions we get asked by brides about wedding photography and some of the jargon associated with booking them.

Page 63: Plan My Wedding Magazine Spring 2014

"Page !63

How can I make sure I look good in my photos? Relax and trust your professional photographer. If you are relaxed, it will show in your photos. Always try to book in an engagement shoot with your photographer prior so that you can get a feel for how they work and you can get comfortable with taking directions… Believe me it feels weird sometimes but let me tell you it is worth it for the amazing photos you will get back. The other thing is to leave time in your schedule…I know you have a lot to get through in one day but feeling super rushed will have you on edge. I recommend 15 minutes for kisses & congratulations at the end of the ceremony, 30 minutes for family photos at your ceremony location, 1-2 hours for your bridal party photos. Keeping in mind if you are going to drive to different locations for your bridal party photos you need to add this time in as well. "Do I need a second photographer? No one needs a second photographer, but if they provide one at no extra cost it is always a good thing. A second photographer just allows them to get a different perspective on the day. Many photographers have assistants (they are generally in training) and they sometimes take images as well. Ask your photographer about how they work but either way I have seen amazing wedding images with single photographers and those who have a second shooter. "How soon should I book my photographer? All I can say is once you find the photographer you like book them in!!! There would be nothing worse then doing all the research falling in love with a certain photographer’s style only to find they were booked weeks ago. All photographers have their own style so take the time to start your research early book in an appointment with them to check out what they are like. "I like one photographer’s style but the other one has a better priced package? Unfortunately this is a big problem for many brides and there is no simple answer. Photography is an art form and all photographers are very creative people. Firstly you need to work out your budget and then start looking at the style of photography you like. If you find a photographer in your budget but then ask them to mimic another photographer’s style is a little insulting. Don’t get me wrong photographers are flexible and I am sure if you have a list of types of images you want taken on the day they will make it happen. You need to carefully read through what they are offering in their packages and if it is not everything you want see if they can make you a custom package. "How do I pick a photographer, there is so many listed? Photography on your wedding day is one of those big decisions and will take some research to find the one that is just right for you both. Ask around, check with other wedding suppliers that you have booked (ie reception venue, celebrant, wedding planner) professional companies will not risk their reputation on a photographer that is not great. Check out blogs, wedding websites and magazines - you will start to see photographers that have been referred and you can get a feel for their style. Make a short list of two or three and book an appointment at their studio - this will give you the chance to meet them and make sure you feel comfortable with them. Remember you should not only like their images, you should like them! You will be spending many hours with them on your wedding day and you need to feel relaxed.

Page 73: Plan My Wedding Magazine Spring 2014

Page !73

Wedding planning is a stressful time in every couple’s lives and we have laid out a few guidelines to help you “the groom” make it to the alter pretty much unscathed. Just remember that there are so many decisions to be made about the planning of your wedding day, my advice to you is pick your battles. Work out what is really important to you and don’t sweat the small stuff. A great phrase to learn is “Sure honey, that sounds great!”.""The three big decisions with a wedding are the date, the place and the guest list. The other items on our list are things you really should just. ""The Date is pretty easy just make sure it doesn’t conflict with any major sporting event (watching the game on the reception venue’s bar TV is not going to make for a happy bride on your wedding day).""The Venue is a big one but when it comes down to it you know the bride already has her favourite. At the meeting ask the following questions and you are covered on this front. “What are the beverage packages or can we have a bar tab?”, “Do you have options for special dietary requirements?” (I know who doesn’t eat meat!) and lastly “How is the parking?”. These are generally the questions that the brides forget to ask because they are worrying about decorations, floor plans and seating numbers.""The Guest List now this is a big one…to help keep the numbers of guests under control you should suggest to opt for the no kids, no coworkers and no dates (unless you know them). If you start a list and put everyone you think you would like to invite then put them in order of importance you will easily fill up the available spots for your wedding.""Pick your team, pardon our sports like reference but we knew you would get it. Selecting your groomsmen is like picking your mates for that street cricket match, you want the best but you don't want to leave anyone out. It is a hard call - work out who your best man is going to be then try to keep the numbers similar to how many bridesmaids the brides wants. Nothing is more irritating for a bride than odd numbers in the bridal party….trust me she may say its fine but you will keep hearing about it. ""Find your own suit - I know it sounds simple but there are hundreds of choices. Firstly just check with the soon to be Mrs and find out her thoughts on the colour. You know vague general questions so that when you make a decision it will be all yours. Now comes the hard part, you have to try some on but here is a couple of helpful hints - skip the cummerbund, go easy on the colours, avoid pleats, simple collars and really think about if you want a bow tie…it might be cute now and the Mrs might try to sway you with “it really suits our wedding” but just remember when you look back at your wedding photos in years to come it might be one battle worth winning.""Get fit - if your bride to be is like the other million or so out there she will be trying to loose a couple of pounds before the wedding. Seeing you sitting on the couch consuming a steady diet of beer, chips and ice-cream is not going to make her a happy girl. Besides on your wedding day you are going to have hundreds of photos taken and I know you don't really worry about how you look but it will keep your bride happy.""Write your vows - this is only if she insists. Stick to the “keep it simple stupid rule” and speak honestly and focus on the four F’s. Forever - Fidelity - Falling in love and Freaking out. Ok so maybe focus on the three F’s.""By following these couple of guidelines you have transformed yourself into the best fiancé ever. The bride to be will now be far more forgiving when you don't get involved in the fluffy parts of the wedding (dresses, flowers, invitations, seating arrangements and so on).""Now for those of you out there that may need to win a few more points, here is a quick list that will convert those extra points.""Surprise her with a message - or flowers or dinner not because you have to just because you love her.""Practice your first dance - this is a big deal for most brides and like a fluffy girlie cocktail, we mere male don’t like it, but under the right circumstances when you can get in touch with your inner princess it can be fun. Don’t take it too seriously and you will enjoy it.""Buy her a special gift - don’t make a rookie mistake and get caught empty handed the night before your wedding when she hands you this very well thought out personal gift. Keep it safe by sticking with jewellery, a framed photo or if it gets too hard enlist her mum or best friend to help you. Take a few minutes to hand write a note telling her you can’t wait to see her walking down the aisle and starting your new life together.""I have now given you all the tools to make sure that your wedding planning efforts are not talked about at every BBQ or family gathering for the next 20 years….Good Luck!

Brides & BouquetsNothing Says Wedding like Flowers

A cascade of rose petals line your path as you walk toward the man you intend to spend the rest of your life with, in your hand you carry an exquisite bouquet of your favourite flowers. Large fragrant arrangements frame you as you kiss for the first time as man and wife. "Flowers are such an intrinsic part of weddings that for most of us it is impossible to imagine what it would be like without them and it has been this way for most of recorded history. Today our reasons for deciding to feature flowers in our weddings are very often about the visual effect that flowers create. The jaw dropping reaction from your guests when they enter your reception venue for the first time is largely due to amazing floral centrepieces. "The use of flowers for weddings in the distant past was definitely less about ascetics and more about the relevant issues of the times. In Scandinavia superstition was reason bridesmaids carried bunches of fresh herbs to ward off trolls that might want to eat a wedding guest or two. "In merry old England it was more about practicalities. The effort it took to draw enough hot water for a bath during the colder months meant the guests were often a bit on the smelly side and flowers helped to disguise their pungent odour. I definitely think the English wedding guests never had to worry about trolls munching on their body parts; they had their own defence system. "There may be many reasons you choose particular flowers for your special day but below are just few examples of the qualities attributed to some flowers. "

Pink Rose - Perfect Happiness

White Rose - Charm and Innocence

Red Rose - Love and Desire

White and Red Rose - Unity

Orange Rose - Passion

Hens Party Ideas

The Big Bachelorette Bash The infamous bachelorette party has been around since the mid 1900s, however the original focus was more on receiving important house hold items for the big change. The ideology behind this celebration is turning the final page before the new chapter of your life with your partner. It should be celebrated with great friends in a fun and symbolic way that can help relieve the stress of a wedding.

If recreating one of the many movies shrouded with florescent lights and dollar bills isn’t your scene then fear not! There are so many great options for your hen’s night here on the Sunshine Coast that won’t seem like a scene out of “The Hangover”.

Making a comeback is the old school home parties that incorporate beauty and lifestyle products like “The Body Shop at Home” and “Tupperware Australia”. What’s not to love about being with the people you care about while shopping in the comfort of your own home?

Another great option for your bachelorette party is a glamorous high tea at “The Rose Room”; think lace gloves, homemade scones and delicate sandwiches. Or, if you are after something a bit different then join The Weekend to End Women’s Cancers in Brisbane.

There are so many fun and unique options for you and all your gal pals to celebrate this new stage in your life. So why not go back to tradition where home values are rated high and bring the class back. Because just like the ever popular vintage theme; what was old is new again.

A continuation of the most special day of your life

Honeymooning is a long-lived tradition and something of a rite of passage for newly married husbands and wives. These days, most newlyweds look for romantic, secluded or particularly picturesque locations to celebrate their love, but the nature of the honeymoon depends entirely on the couple. Adventurous pairs might envisage their first days of marriage climbing snow-capped mountain peaks, while a relaxing, poolside retreat might be just the ticket for perpetually busy couples.

Keeping things close to home, Australia boasts beautiful wine country that provides the perfect backdrop for an intimate getaway. Opt for the classic 'strawberries and champagne' experience at Barossa Valley, Margaret River or Hunter Valley. If you are dreaming of sand between your toes and the sound of rolling surf, some of the best beaches abroad are found in the Bahamas, Hawaii, Greece, Mexico and Fiji. There is literally a world of destinations to choose from with stunning sunsets, tropical hideaways, cultural gems and hidden extras that are sure to make your honeymoon unforgettable. From cosy log cabins nestled in the wilderness to internationally acclaimed resorts and spas.

Your honeymoon is a continuation of the most special day of your life. Wherever you decide to go, a prerequisite is that it is an enjoyable and memorable experience. Find your travel agent early so they can take care of all the planning, so you will have a seamless transition from your nuptials to your romantic rendezvous.

"One of the most stressful aspects of wedding planning can often be narrowing down the list of who gets an invitation – and who doesn’t. To make the whole process easier, we’re here to help with a few guidelines. "Come up with a plan & stick to it Before you even think about making your wedding invitation list, decide what your budget is and what size wedding you want to have. This will help you decide on the size of venues you need, which in turn helps shape your invite list. If you do that planning first, you’ll have a better idea of how many people you can invite before you start promising your mother all her bridge club friends can come to the wedding.

Have parameters for inviting family Inviting your parents and his parents is a no-brainer. So is inviting siblings, grandparents and favourite aunts, cousins and uncles. But there are always family members you never see, extended family you never got to know or estranged family that’s been off your radar for years. So who makes the cut? First and foremost, invite close relatives, and from there, choose from more distant relatives you have a close, personal relationship with.

Focus only on who you know You should know and have a connection with everyone you invite to your big day. You should invite people you want to share your life – not just the wedding moment – with. Invite people to your wedding who are part of your life now,

and who will be part of your future rather than anyone you have ever exchanged a second glance with at the office.

Don’t let others monopolise your list If a parent is pushing for additional guests, you have to stick to your guns and explain that there is simply no room in the budget for adding more names. When it’s your future mother-in-law, it’s a bit trickier to stand your ground. As a couple, create a united front, and talk with her together about why she can’t invite a dozen of her friends to the wedding when your small guest list requires you to leave some of your own school friends off the list.

Scent of a WomanMost brides spend months "selecting their wedding attire, searching for the perfect "dress, shoes, veil and "jewellery. But another part "of the brides ensemble is "her fragrance. Scent is an automatic memory trigger - "a trigger that simulates the "brain to remind you of your "wedding day forever, "much like a treasured "wedding photograph.""Choosing the scent for your "wedding is just as personal as "choosing your wedding flowers or dress, it should be a reflection of "your personal style.""Most brides will select their favourite scent on their wedding day but you "may wish to have a scent that is “uniquely for your wedding day”. You can wear this scent on your wedding anniversary, special dinners with your husband or on your weekly date night to remind each other of the special day you shared.""If you are going to select a new scent, be sure to test it out. Over the coming months visit the fragrance counter and get samples. Experts suggest wearing a sample for a day and see how you like it, fragrances change with each person’s own body chemistry.""Spend some time with this, it is a nice way to have a little you time while planning your wedding."

Prop HireStyling your wedding is where the fun begins… Take some time to really think about the style you are going for and the overall look. Your reception venue may include some decorations for your wedding so try to work with what you already have included this will save you some money so that you can splurge on a couple of bigger items to enhance your style. "When selecting props remember to check how big each item is and if you have a vehicle that is big enough to transport it to your ceremony or reception. No point hiring a stunning vintage sideboard if you need your mum to pick it up in her little Holden Barina. "Check with your hire company many of them offer a delivery service.

Did you know?Long before white was the chosen colour for brides,

BLUE was the symbol of purity worn by brides and

grooms alike.

""The flowering shrub spirea is also know as

‘bridal wreath’ it has long lengths with tiny white

flowers are perfect for those stunning wedding

GARLANDS.

""Legend holds that the first LACE was made by a

young woman whose betrothed was a sailor and had

been captured by pirates. She patterned the piece after a

piece of coral that he had given her and it became her

veil when he returned.

""In Malaysia, each wedding guest is given a highly

decorated EGG, the memento is a symbol of the

couples future children.

""Two hundred years ago, wealthy English brides wore

their wedding RINGS on their thumbs, the rings

were often very ornate and did not fit well on the

traditional ring finger.

"

Page !163

"Something old, something new, something borrowed,

something blue ... and a silver sixpence in your shoe."

"It's a Victorian rhyme listing popular wedding traditions

that were thought to bring a bride good luck -- and each

piece of the rhyme has its own superstition. For instance,

something old ties the bride to her family and her past,

while something new is supposed to give the new couple

a happy future. The bride should borrow something

from a happily married wife to bring happiness, health

and longevity to the newlyweds. The something blue is

supposed to represent love and fidelity. And a silver

sixpence in my shoe? Sure, it's cold hard cash, but

superstition suggests fortune will smile upon a bride with

some small change in her slipper.

"There are so many other traditions that are continued

today. What would a wedding be with out that cute little

ring bearer carrying the hand crafted ring cushion, or

your favourite niece tossing petals from her basket as she

makes her way down the aisle. A kiss on the cheek from

Grandma is often accompanied by her slipping a good

luck charm on your wrist.

"Traditions may seem a little “old fashioned” but they

remind us on our wedding day of how many generations

of people who have stood where we are now and making

the same commitments.

Pack A P icnic

Page 173: Plan My Wedding Magazine Spring 2014

Page !173

Pack a picnic? A strange idea but on your wedding day you will be so excited you will sometimes forget to eat. By the time you get to the ceremony and all of the adrenaline has kicked in you will be running on empty. "Once the ceremony is over and you head off for your bridal party photo shoot it is a good idea to have some food and drinks (of course) packed. Guests will head back to the reception and enjoy those delicious canapés that you have selected. So why should the Bridal party go without, pack a picnic basket for you all to enjoy while you are having your photos. "Select foods that are easy to transport and can be eaten with ease. Pack a few food items that will help soak up those couple of extra drinks the groomsmen may have had before the ceremony. "Make sure you pack some water or non alcoholic drinks as you will have all night to party. Add a cute basket and you have just added to the photo opportunities for your wedding day!

Enjoy !!!

Signature Wedding Cocktails…The signature wedding cocktail is one wedding tradition we all love. It combines two things

that we are all fans of: alcohol and memorable parties! Serving beer, wine and soft drinks is

the standard at most weddings these days and adding spirits is not always affordable. So why

not include a signature cocktail for pre dinner drinks - they look fantastic and will add that

something special to your drinks list. Now on with the hard part, working out which cocktail

to serve. The cocktail should represent you as a couple, here are three tips for choosing your

signature cocktail for your wedding day.

Page 177: Plan My Wedding Magazine Spring 2014

Page !177

1 - Take inspiration from your location. If you are getting married on a private property or reception venue that is rustic then select a cocktail that can be served in jam jars with cute straws and fun stirrers. Fresh fruits including lemons and limes can be the base of your cocktail. If it is a summer wedding why not have something with watermelon in it. ""2 - Think about your style and tastes as a couple. This could mean working in your shared love of Scotch. If you were travellers why not select a drink from your favourite place around the world. You can pick a drink that you love and just come up with a clever name. As we all know some of our favourite cocktails have some of the most inappropriate names for weddings. ""3 - Serve two signature cocktails. This option will settle any disagreements on “that’s too girlie” or “girls won’t drink that”. Each of you come up with a drink that you love, create a cute sign for the bar letting guests know which drink belongs to who. "The trick is to make them fun and full of colour and your guests will love them.

"Not sure where to start?

We have listed some great ideas to help get your creativeness flowing and

set you on a path to the wedding of your dreams.

Page 185: Plan My Wedding Magazine Spring 2014

Page !185

Work out what you like! It’s hard to design anything if you are not sure exactly what you like. Sit down together and write down some words that describe you as a couple, then write a list of what you want your wedding to be like and how you want it to feel. So now you have a starting point."""""

Putting the pieces together. Start collecting images of things you like. Just pictures of dresses, hair, make up, centre pieces, special touches. You will start to see an overall design coming together. Don’t be worried if there are a few really random images, this is how you will finally know what you are selecting is what you love."""""Not sure of colour? Once you have collected lots of images start sorting them into piles of different styles or colour palettes. You will quickly see which is the winning style.""""

Create your vision. Now take a snap shot of the images, you can keep this on your phone or tablet. Keeping a clear image of your style will help when making those future decisions. You will know if something is going to work or not. By having a picture it also is a good reminder of what you are working towards.""""Source the right suppliers. Finding the right people to help you create your perfect wedding day will make all the difference in the world. Suppliers can come from many places just keep in mind that if a supplier is from out of town it may cost more in travel and set up fees. Meet with your suppliers and get to know them, you are trusting them with your big day!""""

DIY or Buy? Many brides are opting to add handmade details to their weddings, which is a great way to personalise your wedding. But before you start buying glue guns, double sided tape and hessian ribbon ask yourself do you really have the time? Now if you have said yes to this question, my advice is to have all projects finished 1 month before the wedding. Yes 1 month.

Be organised. A month before your wedding day start to get all your DIY projects, props, accessories together and have a play with how you want them to look. Working out what is going where will help keep your vision clear, besides if you have been stashing things away for the past year I am sure there is going to be a few things you forgot that you purchased."""Delegate Delegate Delegate. Once you have worked out what you want where with all of your accessories be sure to write specific instructions, you can even include a photo as well. This takes the stress of out the day for you and for your good friend who has been assigned this task."""Tools of the trade. Make sure you supply your friend with a simple styling tool kit. It should include scissors, cello tape, ribbon, double sided tape, glue gun, florist wire, cable ties and duct tape. Your tool kit can be modified to suit the jobs that you are assigning her to do."""Ask for help. The day of your wedding should be relaxing and stress free. So enlisting the help of friends is a good thing but remember they are coming to the wedding too. Small jobs can be set up by your friends and family but remember hiring a wedding professional is sometimes the best option. You have spent months planning to make sure everything is perfect, but on your wedding day it is not up to you to check that the flowers are in place, the signing pen is at the ceremony and the bomboniere gifts (that you spent hours and hours making) have made it to the tables."""Don’t forget. Everything has been organised with the setting up and making sure the day is perfect but the part that is often forgotten is collecting all your things at the end. Allocate someone responsible to collect all your things, write them a list of instructions and what needs to be collected. Many times reception venues will have more than one wedding each weekend and there would be nothing worse than loosing your great grandmothers heirloom cake knife.
