    Wards Lake: Known locally as Nan-Polok, this artificial lake with sprawling garden, flowersand boating facility is located right at the heart of Shillong near historic Raj Bhawan & HotelPinewood. Named after Sir William Ward, the Chief Commissioner of undivided Assam in theBritish era, this Horse Shoe shaped lake offers the most pleasant beauty spot of the city.

    Lady Hydari Park: Located near the Civil Hospital and Spread over four hectares area, thislovely park cum Mini-zoo has some exotic animals. Named after the wife of Sir AkhbariHydari, the first Indian Governor of undivided Assam, the specialty of this park is itslandscaping in Japanese style.

    Shillong Peak: Shillong Peak provides a splendid panoramic view of Shillong on the way toCherrapunji, about 10 km away from Shillong and situated at a height of 1961 m above sealevel. Shillong peak is the highest point of Meghalaya. The peak offers a magnificentpanoramic scenic beauty of lush green landscapes and cascading waterfalls of the countryside as well as the birds eye view of Shillong. Often shrouded with fog, by the evening thecity lights below appear like a star-studded abyss. On a very clear day Himalayan Peaks arevisible in the north and plains of Bangaldesh can be seen from the peak.

    Umiam Lake: Also called Barapani because of its vastness this lake is located 17 km awayfrom Shillong and it offers awesome beauty of its surroundings that has a great appealamong water sports enthusiasts since it offers water sport facilities like Sailing, WaterSkiing,Cruise, Speed and Paddle Boating etc. With variety of fishes it also an anglersparadise. Nehru Park which is nearby of the Umiam Lake, offers an Aviary and an orchidHouse, which are enriched by rare species of birds and beautiful collection of various Fernsand Orchids

    The Shillong Golf Course: Shillong has one of India's oldest golf courses and also one ofthe largest golf courses in Asia and the golf course is called Gleneagles of the East, that isnot only scenic and enjoyable besides being one of the few natural golf courses in Asia. Agroup of British Civil Service officers introduced golf to Shillong in 1898 by constructing anine-hole course. The present 18-hole course was inaugurated in 1924. The longest holehere is the 6th, which is a grueling 594 yards.

    The Shillong Cathedral: It is the largest Church in Meghalaya. This is the principal place ofworship of thousands of Catholics of the Shillong Archdiocese which covers the Khasi &

    Jaitia Hills of Meghalaya. An Archdiocese is an area under the jurisdiction of an Archbishop.The Cathedral was built over 50 years ago. Since it also has the cathedra the seat orthrone of the Bishop it is known as a Cathedral Church. This place of worship stands on thevery site of the first Church built by the Salvatorian Fathers from Germany that took up theMission of Assam. The earlier 1913 wooden building (the Church of the Divine Saviour)was destroyed in the Good Friday fire of 1936.

    Don Bosco North-East Museum: This Museum of Indigenous Cultures at Malki is Asia'slargest Museum of Indigenous Cultures. The visitors can have an overview of the whole ofNorth East India. Raising into Shillong's skyline in a seven storey building with 17 well laidout Galleries of international standard containing artifacts, paintings, fiberglass figures - all afeast to the eyes. The topmost Gallery is where the visitors can relax & enjoy some of therare dances of the North East.

    The Botanical Garden of Shillong: This is located in the vicinity of the Wards Lake andone of the favourite haunt among tourists and locals. The landscaped garden specializes inpreservation and research of various species of vegetation especially those related to theMeghalaya. Located in a remote area of the garden is also a treasure trove of varied

    indigenous and exotic flora. The orchid House of the garden has amazing rare collections.Botanical Garden also has a mini Aviary with a collection of rare and colourful species ofbirds.

    Mawlynnong: Rated as the cleanest village in Asia with nearby exotic living root bridges ofrubber trees crossing rivers. About 75 kilometers away from Shillong.

    Cherrapunji: One of the world's few wettest places. About 56 km from Shillong.
