FOREIGN COLLABORATIONSBULMIMhas long termcollaborationwithVorarlbergUniversityofAppliedSciences (FHV)AustriaaPublicUniversitymaintainedby theStateofVorarlberg inAustria.TheUniversityand itsprogrammeareaccreditedbyAQ,Austriawhichconfirms that theUniversitymeetsrecognizedqualitystandardfortheUniversityleveleducation.IthasalsobeenawardedtheEuropeanCreditTransferredAccumulationSystem(ECTS)whichisastandardforcomparingthestudyattainmentandperformanceofstudentsofhighereducationacrosstheEuropeanUnionandothercollaboratingEuropeancountries.The internationalcollaborationbetweenFHVandBULMIMhasbeeninitiatedtoensurethatbothfacultyandstudentskeepabreastwiththechangesoccurringgloballyaswellasshareexpertiseandresourcesformutualbenefit.StudentsfrombothInstitutionshaveundertakenjointprojects.BULMIMstudentshavegonetoFHVtoattendatermthereandFHVstudentswillbeattendingatermhere.

COMPUTER LABBULMIMusesstate-of-the-artcomputersforprovid-ing support for diverse computing requirements. Ithas access through progressiveWi-Fi environmentto bibliographic database and archives for rapidretrieval of relevant informationandforupdatinganddissemina-tion of academic and researchmaterial.

There are two practical trainings planned during the programme. The first training “SummerInternship”isinlinewiththeregularmanagementprogrammes.Thesecondtraining“BottomofPyramidProject(BOPP)”isuniquetoBULMIMandisfocusedontherural,semiurbanandotherunorganizedsectorsofIndia.Thestudentswillundergoafocusedworkshopbeforeeachtrainingtomaximizetheiron-the-fieldlearning.

BOTTOM OF PYRAMID PROJECT(BOPP)Traditionally, industry has been the main focusofmanagement.HoweverBULMIMhasmadeaninnovativedeparturefromconventionalB-Schoolprogrammes by adding a new dimension to itsPGDM Programme, i.e. “Bottom of Pyramid”Project. Late Prof. C.K. Prahalad, in his book“Fortune at the Bottom of the Pyramid” identi-fied the people at the bottomof pyramid as theworld’smostexciting,fastest-growingnewmarket.Accordingtohim,“Collectively,theworld’sbillionsof poor people have immense untapped buyingpower.They represent an enormous opportunityfor companies who learn how to serve them”.Servingthepoorestofthepooralsoformsapartof corporate social responsibility.The Institute isawareofthesephilosophiesandthroughitsBOPtraining programme, has takenmeasures to trainits students to understand and appreciate theneedsandaspirationsofthepeoplewhoareatthebottomofthepyramid.

ABOUT THE PROGRAMMEThePartTimePost-GraduateDiplomainManage-ment was started by the Institute in 1995. Thisprogramme ismeant forworking individualswhohave not had the opportunity to acquire formalmanagementeducation.Theprogrammehasbeendevisedwithvisionandgreatcare.Themainobjec-tiveoftheprogrammeistoimpartknowledgeandskills,inthebasicandfunctionalareasofmanage-ment,andtoinculcatevaluesandattitudeswhichcontributetoasociallysensitiveandethicalbehav-iour. COURSE CURRICULUMThis Programme is designed to contributetowards developing management effectivenessof the working executives and to help themenhancetheircareerinmanagementinboththecorporateandpublicsector.Thefirsttwosemes-tersoftheprogrammearedevotedtofoundationcourses wherein students are exposed to coresubjects. In the latter four semesters, in addi-tiontoafewcoresubjects,thestudentspursuetheirchosenareasofinterestbychoosingfromalistofelectivesubjects,offeredacrossdifferentfunctional areas like Finance, Human Resourceand Marketing. Each functional area offers arangeofelectivesbutthefinaldecisiontooffertheelective issubject toaminimumnumberofstudents opting for it.
