2. Please Read First!

3.1 Specified conditions of use

This machine is intended to rip andcrosscut grown timber, faced boards,chip board and wood-core plywoodsheets, and similar wood-derived materi-als.

Metals can only be cut with the followingrestrictions:

− with suitable saw blade only(see "Available Accessories")

− non-ferrous metals only (no hard or hardened metals)

Do not cut round stock without suitablejigs or fixtures. The rotating saw bladecould turn the workpiece.

When sawing thin stock layed on edge,a suitable guide must be used for firmsupport.

Use of wobble saw blades is not permit-ted on this machine.

� Danger! Any other use is not as speci-

fied.

Use not as specified, alteration of theelectric tool or use of parts that are notapproved by the equipment manufac-turer can cause unforeseeable damage!

3.2 General safety instruc-tions

When operating this electric tool observethe following safety instructions, toexclude the risk of personal injury ormaterial damage. Please also observe the special safetyinstructions in the respective chapters; Keep all enclosed documents for futurereference. Observe the statuary accident insuranceinstitution regulations and regulations forthe prevention of accidents pertaining tothe operation of circular saws, whereapplicable.

� General Hazard! Keep your work area tidy – a messywork area invites accidents. Be alert. Know what you are doing. Setout to work with reason. Do not operateelectric tool while under the influence ofdrugs, alcohol or medication. Consider environmental conditions. Keep work area well lighted. Prevent adverse body positions. Ensurefirm footing and keep your balance at alltimes. Use suitable workpiece supportswhen cutting long stock. Do not operate electric tool near inflam-mable liquids or gases. The circular saw shall only be startedand operated by persons familiar withcircular saws, and who are at any time

aware of the dangers associated withthe operation of such tool. Persons under the age of 18 years shalloperate this electric tool only in thecourse of their vocational training, underthe supervision of an instructor. Keep bystanders, particularly children,out of the danger zone. Do not permitother persons to touch the electric tool orpower cable while it is running. Do not overload electric tool – use it onlywithin the performance range it wasdesigned (see "Technical Specifica-tions").

� Danger! Risk of electric shock! Do not expose electric tool to rain. Do not operate electric tool in damp orwet environment.Prevent body contact with earthedobjects such as radiators, pipes, cookingstoves, refrigerators when operating thiselectric tool. Do not use the power cable for purposesit is not intended for.

� Risk of personal injury andcrushing by moving parts!

Do not operate the electric tool withoutinstalled guards. Always keep sufficient distance to thecutting tool. Use suitable feeding aids, ifnecessary. Keep sufficient distance to motor anddriven components when operating elec-tric tool. Ensure electric tool is discon-nected from power supply before servic-ing. Ensure that when switching on (e.g. afterservicing) no tools or loose parts are lefton or in the electric tool. Turn power off if the electric tool is notused.

� Cutting hazard, even with thecutting tool at standstill!

Wear gloves when changing cuttingtools.

� Risk of kickback (workpiece iscaught by the saw blade and thrownagainst the operator)!

Always work with a properly set rivingknife. Do not jam workpieces. Cut thin or thin-walled workpieces onlywith fine-toothed saw blades. Alwaysuse sharp saw blades. If in doubt, check workpiece for inclusionof foreign matter (e.g. nails or screws).

Drawing-in/trapping hazard! Ensure that no parts of the body or cloth-ing can get caught and drawn in by rotat-ing components (no neckties, no loose-fitting clothes; contain long hair with hair-net).

� Hazard generated by insuffi-cient personal protection gear!

Wear hearing protection. Wear safety glasses. Wear dust mask if work generates dust. Wear suitable work clothes. When work-ing outdoors wearing of non-slip shoes isrecommended.

� Risk of injury by inhaling wooddust!

Dust of certain timber species (e.g.beech, oak, ash) can cause cancerwhen inhaled: use a suitable dust collec-tor (see "Technical Specifications").

� Hazard generated by electrictool defects!

Keep electric tool and accessories ingood repair. Observe the maintenanceinstructions. Check electric tool for possible damagebefore any use: before operating theelectric tool all safety devices, protectiondevices or slightly damaged parts mustbe inspected for proper functioning asspecified. Check to see that all movingparts work properly and do not jam. Allparts must be correctly installed andmeet all conditions necessary for theproper operation of the electric tool. Damaged protection devices or partsmust be repaired or replaced by an qualified specialist. Have damagedswitches replaced by a service centre.Do not operate electric tool if the switchcan not be turned ON or OFF. Keep handles free of oil and grease.

3.3 Symbols shown on the circular saw

� Danger! Disregard of the following

warnings can lead to severe personalinjury or material damage.

Read instructions.

Do not reach into the revolvingsaw blade.

� Wear hearing protection.

Use push stick ifdistance betweensaw blade and ripfence is ≤ 120 mm.

Cut round stockonly with a suitableholding device.

Use table exten-sion, if otherwiseworkpiece wouldfall off the tableafter cutting.

3.5 Safety devices

Blade guard The blade guard (12) protects againstunintentional contact with the saw bladeand from chips flying about.

Always have blade guard installed dur-ing operation.

Riving knife The riving knife (13) prevents the work-piece from being caught by the risingteeth of the saw blade and being thrownagainst the operator.

Always have riving knife installed duringoperation.

Push stickThe push stick (14) serves as an exten-sion of the hand and protects againstaccidental contact with the saw blade.

Use push stick if distance rip fence –saw blade is ≤ 120 mm.

In order for the push stick to be alwaysat hand, it can be stored in a sheathinside the machine's housing.

• Precisely adjustable bevel tilt from –1.5° through 46.5°.

• Steplessly adjustable depth of cut 0– 65 mm.

• All operating elements are locatedat the machine's front.

• Electronic speed control: − motor soft start; − low mains supply load; − constant saw blade speed irre-

spective of load provides for con-sistent cut quality;

− extended service life of the car-bon brushes;

− low no-load speed results in lessannoyance by noise.

• An electronic motor protection byovercurrent detection shuts themotor off when it is locked (e.g. by ablocked saw blade).

• An undervoltage relay prevents themachine from starting up whenpower is restored after a power fail-ure.

• Compact design for quick and easytransportation.

• Mitre fence and rip fence are stand-ard delivery.

• Lower saw blade fully.

• Dismount add-on parts (fence, slid-ing carriage, table extension).

• If possible use original carton forshipping.

Caution! For carrying use the handle

holes at the sides of the machine. Donot carry the machine holding it byany of the safety devices or operatingelements!

ON/OFF switch with emergency stop• To switch ON = depress upper but-

ton (15).

• To switch OFF = push lower button(16) or on switch cover.

� Note: Upon power failure an undervolt-

age relay is activated. This prevents thestarting of the machine when the poweris restored. To restart the saw after apower failure the green switch button(15) needs to be actuated again.

The ON/OFF switch can be blocked by apadlock.

Handwheel for setting the depth of cut The depth of cut can be adjusted byturning the handwheel (17).

Handwheel for blade tilt setting With the handwheel (18) the saw bladecan be steplessly tilted to the right from0° (vertical) through 45°.The centre of motion is at saw tablelevel, so the depth of cut remains thesame regardless of the bevel angle.

Ratchet lock leverThe set bevel angle can be locked with aratchet lock lever (19), so it does notchange during sawing.

� Note:There are several ratchet lock

levers on the saw. If the swivelling rangeis not sufficient, the lever position can beshifted: pull lever up, turn and let engage again.

Lever, blade tilt limiter The blade tilt setting has end stops at 0°and 45°. For special bevel cuts (under-cutting) the bevel angle can beincreased by 1.5° in both directions.

• Blade tilt limiter (20) left (down) =saw blade bevel angle adjustablebetween 0° and 45°.

• Blade tilt limiter (20) right (up) = sawblade bevel angle adjustablebetween –1.5° and 46.5°.

Rip fenceThe rip fence (21) slides into the sawtable's front extrusion.

The auxiliary fence extrusion can betaken off and reversed after looseningthe two screws (22).

• Wide edge = for cutting thick work-pieces (max. 65 mm).

• Small edge = − for cutting thin stock; − when the saw blade is tilted.

Mitre fenceThe mitre fence (23) is inserted into thetable slot from the table’s front edge.

For mitre cuts the mitre fence can beadjusted after loosening the lock lever(24) (±47°).

7.1 InstallationThere are two ways to ensure a firmstand of the machine:

• Installation on workstand (optional accessory);

• Installation on a solid table or work-bench with solid top.

7.2 Riving knife alignment and blade guard installa-tion.

1. Raise saw blade fully.

2. Loosen removable table section (25)and remove from table.

3. Loosen screws (26) of the rivingknife bracket.

4. Pull riving knife (27) up against thestop.

5. Tighten screws (26) of the rivingknife bracket.

6. Loosen hexagon socket head capscrew (28) (to do so, turn hexagonsocket head cap screw counter-clockwise!) and adjust riving knifeposition. The distance between thesaw blade’s outer edge and the riv-ing knife must be 3 – 8 mm.

� Danger! The riving knife is one of the

safety devices and has to be correctlyinstalled for a safe operation.

7. Tighten hexagon socket head capscrew (to do so, turn hexagonsocket head cap screw (28) clock-wise!)

8. Fasten removable table section.

9. Install blade guard (30) on rivingknife (29).

7.3 Connection of dust col-lector

� Danger! Dust of certain timber species

(e.g. oak and ash) can cause cancerwhen inhaled: always use a dust col-lector when working in enclosedspaces (air speed at the saw’s dustcollection port ≥ 20 m/s).

Caution! Operation without a dust col-

lector is only possible:

− outdoors;

− for short-term operation (up tomax. 30 minutes);

− with dust respirator.

If no dust collector is used, saw dustand chips accumulate inside themachine housing. These remainshave to be removed after 30 minutesat the latest.

Dust collection ports are located on thechip case and blade guard.

• Fit the chip ejection tube (31) ontosuction port of saw housing as illus-trated.

� Danger! By the revolving motion of the

saw blade the saw dust is blown fromthe chip ejection tube. Watch wherethe jet of saw dust is aimed at.

Caution! In order for the saw dust to be

effectively led off, the chip ejectiontube supplied has to be installed evenif no dust collector is hooked up. The chip ejection tube shall not beblocked by other objects.

7.4 Mains connection

� Danger! Electrical Hazard Operate saw in dry environ-

ment only.

Operate saw only on a power sourcematching the following requirements(see also "Technical Specifications"):

− mains voltage and system fre-quency conform to the voltageand frequency shown on thesaw’s name plate;

− fuse protection by a residual cur-rent operated device (RCD) of30 mA sensitivity;

− outlets properly installed, earthedand tested.

Position power supply cable so itdoes not interfere with the work andis not damaged.

Protect power supply cable from heat,aggressive liquids and sharp edges.

Use only rubber-jacketed extensioncables with sufficient lead cross-sec-tion (3 x 1.5 mm2).

Do not pull on power supply cable tounplug.

� Risk of injury! This saw may only be operated

by one person at a time. Other per-sons may stay only at a distance fromthe saw for the purpose of feeding orremoving stock.

Before starting work check to see thatthe following are in proper workingorder:

− power cable and plug;

− ON/OFF switch;

− riving knife;

− blade guard;

− push stick.

Use personal protection gear:

− dust respirator;

− hearing protection;

− safety goggles.

Assume proper operating position:

− at the front of the saw;

− in front of the saw;

− to the left of the line of cut.

− If working with two persons thesecond person should stand at arear table extension.

If the type of work requires, use thefollowing:

− table extension (accessory) ifworking with two persons or ifotherwise workpieces would falloff the saw table;

− sliding carriage (accessory);

− dust collector.

Avoid typical operator mistakes:

− Do not attempt to stop the sawblade by pushing the workpieceagainst its side. Risk of kickback.

− Always hold the workpiece downon the table and do not jam it.Risk of kickback.

− Never cut several workpieces atthe same time – and also no bun-dles containing several individualpieces. Risk of personal injury ifindividual pieces are caught bythe saw blade uncontrolled.

Drawing-in/trapping hazard! Never cut stock to which

ropes, cords, strings, cables or wiresare attached or which contain suchmaterials.

8.1 SawingFor cutting the workpiece is evenly fedagainst the saw blade towards the rearof the table:

1. Set depth of cut. The blade guardmust rest with its front edge on theworkpiece.

2. Set blade tilt and lock in position.

3. Mount rip fence, if required.

4. Start saw.

5. Cut workpiece in a single pass.

6. Switch machine off if no further cut-ting is to be done immediately after-wards.

Mitre cuts1. Fit mitre fence to the table slot.

2. Loosen ratchet lock lever (32), setfence to desired angle and tightenratchet lock lever again.

3. Hold workpiece firmly against mitrefence.

4. Cut workpiece by pushing the mitrefence forward.

� Danger! Prior to all servicing:

− switch machine OFF;

− unplug power cable;

− wait until the saw has come to acomplete stop.

• Check that all safety devices areoperational again after each service.

• Repair and maintenance work otherthan described in this section shouldonly be carried out by qualified spe-cialists.

9.1 Saw blade change

� Danger! Risk of injury by cuts from the

saw blade's teeth. Wear gloves whenchanging blades.

1. Remove blade guard.

2. Loosen removable table section (33)and remove from table.

3. Loosen screw fitting (34) at the bot-tom of the chip case and removecover plate (35) by pulling it upward.

4. Hold saw spindle with 13 mm openjaw wrench and loosen arbor bolt(36) with Allen key (L.H. thread!).

5. Take blade off the saw spindle.

6. Clean clamping surfaces of sawspindle and saw blade.

� Danger! Do not use cleaning agents

(e.g. for removing resin residue) thatcould corrode the light metal compo-nents of the saw; the stability of thesaw would be adversely affected.

7. Put on a fresh saw blade (observedirection of rotation!).

� Danger! Use only suitable saw blades

according to EN 847-1 (see "Techni-cal Specifications" – when usingunsuitable or damaged blades partscould be explosive-like hurled from itby centrifugal force. Do not use:

− saw blades which permissiblemaximum speed is below therated no-load speed of the sawspindle (see "Technical Specifica-tions");

− saw blades with visible damage;

− cut-off wheel blades.

� Danger! − Mount saw blade only using gen-

uine parts.

− Do not use loose-fitting reducingrings; the saw blade could workloose.

− Saw blades have to be mountedin such way that they do not wob-ble or run out of balance, and cannot work loose during operation.

� Danger! − Do not extend arbor bolt tighten-

9.2 Scale settingThe scale can be set to correspond withthe saw blade thickness:

1. Loosen fixing screws and adjustscale as required (37).

2. Tighten fixing screws and verify set-ting by making a trial cut.

9.3 Mitre fence adjustment1. Use try square to check if mitre

fence is at ringht angle to the sawblade.

2. Loosen fixing screws (38) andadjust graduated arc scale, if neces-sary.

3. Tighten fixing screws.

9.4 Blade tilt stop setting1. Set the blade tilt limiter (39) to the

left ( 0° to 45° position).

2. Check blade bevel angle: − 0° = square with the saw table − 45° with separate mitre square.

If these angles are not exactlymatched:

3. Remove removable table section.

4. Adjust setting screws (40) of stopsuntil the blade tilt against the sawtable at the end positions is exactly0° (= square) and 45°, respectively.

5. After adjusting the stops the anglescale at the machine front may needreadjustment.

6. Fasten removable table section.

9.5 Saw cleaning1. Lay machine on its side.

2. Remove chips and saw dust withvacuum cleaner or brush: − from saw blade setting guide ele-

ments; − from motor vent slots.

9.6 Machine storage

� Danger! Store saw so that

− it can not be started by unauthor-ized persons and

− nobody can get hurt.

Caution!Do not store saw unprotected

outdoors or in damp environment.

� Note: The ON/OFF buttons can be

blocked by a padlock.

9.7 Maintenance

Before switching on Visual check if distance saw blade – riv-ing knife is 3...8 mm.

Visual check of power cable and powercable plug for damage; if necessaryhave damaged parts replaced by a qual-ified electrician.

Monthly (if used daily) remove saw dust and chips with vacuumor brush; apply light coat of oil to guideelements:

− threaded rod and guide rods ofblade rise and fall mechanism:

− swivel segments.

Every 300 hours of operation Check all screwed joints, retighten ifnecessary.

• Before cutting a workpiece to sizemake trial cuts with pieces of scrap.

• Always place a workpiece on thesaw table in such way that it can nottilt or rock (e.g. always place acurved board on the table with theconvex side up).

• When working long stock use suita-ble supports, such as table rear orside extensions (optional accesso-ries).

• To simplify repetitive cut-off workuse a stock stop (optional acces-sory).

• Keep surfaces of saw table and sawbase clean – in particular, removeresin residue with a suitable clean-ing and maintenance spray (optionalaccessory).

No mains voltage:

− check cables, plug, outlet and mainsfuse.

Motor overheated, e.g. by a blunt sawblade or chip build-up in the chip case:

− eliminate cause for overheating,wait for a few minutes, then startsaw again.

Stated top speed is not reached Motor supply voltage too low:

− use a shorter extension cable orextension cable with larger leadcross section (≥ 1.5 mm2).

− Have power supply checked by aqualified electrician.

Loss of cutting performance Saw blade blunt (possibly temperingmarks on blade body):

− replace saw blade (see section"Maintenance").

Chip ejection tube blocked No dust collector hooked up or suctioncapacity insufficient:

− connect dust collector or

− increase suction capacity (air speed≥ 20 m/sec at chip ejection tube).
