POST-GAME QUOTES
Houston Oilers Pittsburgh Steelers November 15, 1987 Three Riv!rs StadiumVisitor Home Date Site
HEAD COACH CHUCK NOLL: "It wasn't a very pretty view from our standpoint. I think the peoplefrom Houston enjoyed this. Especially in the second half, they outhit us. They did everythingto us in every area, offensively, defensively and special teams. It was as simple as that.
(On QR situation): "How does it look? Not very good right now.(starter next week at Cincinnati)—It will probably be Mark (Malone).. .(On Brister) - At that point it was probably a good time
F to give Bubby some experience."
(On Houston passing game): "I thought Houston did a great job. They had some great execution. They ran good routes. The ball was thrown with timing. For the most part, they had pretty goodprotection. We had some pressure. When we did have pressure, it was shrugged off and he (Moon)stepped up and threw the ball. Moon did an excellent job. The whole Houston team did a goodjob."
(On defensing the run-and-shoot offense): "We knew what they were going to do. It's not one ofthose things where they're going to fool you. We knew exactly what they were going to do. Itwas no big secret out there and they did it. That's the sign of a pretty good football team- when you know what they're going to do and they can go out there and do it. And they did it."
(On Houston defense): "The Houston defense came after us real good. They had their ears backand came 100 miles an hour. It's as simple as that."
MARK MALONE: "They adjusted to our running game. Safeties and corners were making the stops. We have to learn to adapt and adjust if they shut us down. We have to find out what else Is.open."
1$ BUBBY BRISTER: "I thought it was tough (coining in). I threw a few bad throws that I shouldn'thave thrown. I wish I'd have done better."
(On sack): "I didn't see it. We had maximum protection, but we didn't anticipate. Maybe acomunication was blown. I don't know. He (Bostic) drilled me, but he didn't hurt me."
(On next week's starter): "We are working hard. We need to do something but I don't know what.I don't know what his (Chuck Noll's) plans are for me but I will be prepared.
LB MIKE MERRIWEATHER: "Houston (defense) went harder than us. We have to put it behind us.A season is not one game long."
CB DWAYNE WOODRUFF: (On Moon's long ID to Drew Hill): "We gambled with a blitz. It was a goodroute. Moon threw the ball about a mile long and I though he (Hill) wasn't going to get it butMoon put it right in there.(On rest of season): "We are still In it. We have the talent and it rests in our hands. We'vegot to go out and do it."
HEAD COACH JERRY GLANVILIE: "I think being on our sideline, being in the first half, it was agreat struggle. fighting as hard as they could, but we could not get on track.I think that credit goes to Pittsburgh and in the second half we did get on track. We hit some• big plays and I think a lot of people forgot about everything that's happened since 1978. Whata difference a year makes. One year ago we were sitting in here and we weren't doing too well.In one year a lot of people have worked very hard."
• (On stopping Steeler running game): "We didn't think we'd stop the running game and be thatsuccessful with it. We were fortunate to chase them into their passing game. At 3-3 they werestill in their game and we had to keep doing what we were doing in the second half to the runninggame."
(On Houston defense): "I think they're finally back from our four-week sabbatical. We weren'tfoolIng anybody. We were off and our timing was off. For three weeks they've been struggling.I think three games have brought the timing back. They looked like the defense prior to thefour weeks off."
(What happened in second half): "We really didn't change anything. We just kept on playing. We knew what our game plan was and never came off of our game plan for one snap. We Just knewwe'd get on track. We were out of sync and things would get going. I think you've got to credittheir (Pittsburgh's) defense. They totally changed from what we prepared for. The things theywere doing they didn't do against us and so it took us a quarter to make adjustments."RB MIKE ROllER: "I feel good, I feel sore, too. We went out there, played hard and won the
• game. They were twisting my leg in the pile. They knew I had a hurt leg and they would twistit while I was down. They were twisting it and it got real sore. I had to go to the sideline, tape it up and it felt better. They knew I was hurt. I don't know who it was."
QB WARREN MOON: "Coming into the season, this was the one I wanted to win more than any of them.We haven't won up here in a long time. To win the division you have to win in Pittsburgh. Ourdefense was the key. It was just a matter of time before our offense clicked. It means quitea bit. We haven't won here in 10 years, since back in the glory years of the Oilers. It's abig win for the organization."
LB KEITH BOSTIC: (On sack of Brister): "I broke free and saw him. I wasn't trying to hurt him.1 held up. I just played ball. I don't want to end anybody's career. We got a bunch of guysthat played well. I just thank the Lord."
