Treatment Our film Is based in a east central London estate.

This estate is be plagued by torrent gang activity, violence and terrorism. We would like to tell the story of how the lives of two brothers rapidly change forever in a wild, enigmatic chain of events that’ll grab your attention and keep you watching till the very end.

As one of the brother’s are killed, the ghost of his dead body comes alive to piece together this event and get his revenge.

Treatment Our opening sequence begins with the opening credits

running over images of violent gang culture. This violent rampage is presented in slow motion to help create suspense, and to help establish that it’s a flash back. Within the opening sequence the main protagonist is killed in a frenzied of swirling lights and fires burning. Once the flash back is over, he main protagonist who was killed is back in ghost form walking through a park. As he walks central in the shot we will superimpose another layer of gang violence playing either side of the ghost to give the illusion that the path he is now walking was the vicinity at which he was killed in such turmoil.

The ghost sees the person who kills him, and to his horror it was his brother…

What type of genre is this opening sequence based

upon? The film is a super natural thriller,

which also contains sentiments of gang culture. A real film that has inspired us is 1 Day where the opening title sequence shows the setting of the film and has simple titles and non- diegetic music. Even though we are not completely copying the inspired film, we are adding our own twist to it by embedding super natural moods to the film. In addition to this, our film will be shot in quite a unique place, which will emphasise the sub-genre.

Planned LocationHere is Bourne Estate, the locale of our opening film sequence. This particular area has a small park which at twilight looks very derelict. Also this area is renowned for gang activity making it a prime vicinity.

Mise-en-scene For our thriller we will need the following props

Fake Blood- This will be an essential prop as our film will contain a scene involving violence and death.

Items of clothing such as bandana’s, hoods, need to be worn to demonstrate gang culture.

Fire (Possibility not an essential) but will make the opening sequence more suspenseful and tense.

Implements used to maim people will not be seen within the film nor will it be used to ensure the safety of all cast and people on set. But of course we want to ensure a realistic sequence so we will imply someone was lacerated by a knife but not physically being used.

Preliminary ideas for sound

Just like any other thriller film, we would like to add a lot of music and sounds to create suspense and drama to our film. We believe that the music will play a key role in this film, especially as it will contain some action.

In the beginning scene, we will add some slow, dark sounding music. During the death scene it may be ideal to add music with a faster tempo as the momentum increases. It may also be a good idea to stop all music completely to create a tense stage in the film then add some thriller music in time with a particular scene of the opening sequence, for example the flashback scene.

Production Schedule

Thursday 7th February – we intend to head over to Bourne estate a double check the area to ensure it has all the key commodities we need for our shoot. We will need a camera just to talk some more shots of the location in more detail and finalize the decision to film at which exact location.

We intend to film over the weekend so that we have enough time to get every shot right with the correct lighting, time of day, Mise-en-scene etc. Filming over the weekend would require us to take out the camera equipment over the weekend.

Risk AssessmentDilemmas to surmount

Since our film is affiliated with gang culture, violence and death, there are an array of health and safety issues that need to be addressed before we can ensure this film opening is of high quality.

First dilemma we are faced with would be trying to be as realistic and true to the genre as possible… i.e gang culture. Of course since our opening depicts violent actions we need to figure out how we are going to reenact this in a safe environment.

Risk AssessmentDilemmas to surmount

The use of a fire we hope to implement within our opening film as it is quite a powerful feature in establishing violence etc. Of course how can we create a fire in a controlled environment which would be the dilemma. As we have already stated the fire shot isn't a pivotal scene for the sequence but it can help product a more realistic looking drama type thriller.

Skills Audit

Our group have learned a lot about cameras and software. We’ve learned about camera techniques (such as Match Cuts, Shot-Reverse Shots, along with numerous others) and how to use them. We’ve learned how to use slow motion in our filming by using Final Cut Pro along with how to add title sequences to our films. We’ve learned how to add the appropriate sound effects to our film using Sound Track Pro.

We have also learnt how to add different transitions and titles to our footage.

Institutional detail

Our film is an independent film, therefore we would use an independent film company to publicize our film. This is because no multinational film company would want to take a risk in subsidizing this film as they are unsure how profitable it would be and whether or not it’ll make any money.

Working title films is a British independent film company which would be better suited to publicize our film. This is due to a lack of funds.

Audience The target audience is mainly aimed at teenagers

to young adults

It may also appeal to some people who enjoy watching thrillers and want to experience a new kind of sub genre

It can be of interest to older people who might be fascinated by gang culture.

Our biggest audience would be teenagers because they are most involved in todays gang culture. They are predisposed to the warfare between gangs.
