A Note From Principal Vidulich Gra tude abounds!  We are so lucky at the House of PRIDE ~ but we work hard to make our luck!  This last week we had the con nued good fortune to host an hour with Eric Cahn, a Holocaust survivor, who credits ordinary people for reaching out with courage to save his life and so many more.  He reminds us that “good people doing nothing” is one of the greatest dangers in our world.  It is up to each of us to make those daily decisions to choose kindness, choose courage, choose a be er life, and choose PRIDE. 

Today then, we kicked off our PRIDE Challenge … making a be er life here at LMS.  CU Buffalo and NFL champ Lee Rousson helped us reinforce how each of us has the power to choose good. 

Some mes it’s the li le ac ons that add up to the big payoff.  For the PRIDE Challenge every couple of weeks each grade level will set a new challenge.  Using our school vision as a conversa on starter, each grade level will choose their own Challenge on Thursday for the rest of November and December.  We can all find a way to make that daily affirma on ~ a PRIDE Challenge~.

I invite you to a different kind of PRDE Challenge.  On Thursday evening the 19th, we’ll hold our second quarter School 

Accountability Commi ee mee ng in the LMS library from 5:00 – 7:00pm.  I can’t do anything about the name, but it’s 

actually an interes ng and involved group interested in the behind scenes workings of LMS.  This mee ng will highlight 

our school goals and budget for 2015‐16.  I plan to share current and planned spending from BVSD (called the School 

Resource Alloca on), fees and fund raised dollars and how we combine those to maximize student achievement and 

PRIDE culture at LMS. 

  As of 11/12/15 we have collected $22,000 in fundraise dollars and $13,000 earmarked by donors for LMS tech‐

nology.  We are grateful for the support of our community.  Quite honestly, we are about halfway there for the funds we 

need to maintain our comprehensive services.   

Please join us at SAC to hear the budget details and the ways we’re inves ng in improving learning for your chil‐

dren.  If you haven’t had the chance to donate (or would like to donate again), Revtrak now remits tax dona on receipts.  

Just go to the Pirate PRIDE One and Only Fundraiser bu on on Revtrak , make your dona on, and the form will be availa‐

ble for you to print for your records. 

And finally thank you to the Boulder Ballet for their residency with our PE department.  Look in the bulle n for 

some pictures.  I can’t wait for Tuesday‘s band concert.  The rehearsals have been great.  Come on out!

Canned Food Drive Rules 2015

The Canned Food Drive begins on November 9 and concludes on December 11. All dona-tions will go to the Louisville Food Bank. 

The 1st period classroom that finishes with the most points will attend Winterskate. The classroom that finishes in 2nd place, will receive an ice cream party. 

Points will be totaled by dividing the total number of points by the number of students in the class. 

Each can or food item is worth 1 point. Items from “Most needed list’ will be worth double points. 

Peanut Butter  Tuna  Boxed Bread  Canned beans- all kinds  Boxed desserts  Personal toiletries  Canned fruit  Dried spaghetti  Jello  Canned meals - chili, ravioli, stew, spaghetti and meat balls, etc 

5 packets of Ramen Noodles are equivalent to 1 can.

Our student opportunity fund enables student to play sports, provides kids with any materials needed inside and outside of the class room to make them successful. Monarch High School Open Enrollment Feeder School Informa on

New Safe2Tell mobile app helps keep students safe

Student safety is a high priority in the Boulder Valley School District. One of the ways the district works to en‐

sure students are safe is by partnering with local law enforcement officials on programs like Safe2Tell, a state‐

funded strategic ini a ve of the Colorado Department of Law, Office of the A orney General. Beginning in 

2004, Safe2Tell has provided a phone  p line that students can call any me to report concerns about threats 

that may endanger them or someone they know. The caller remains anonymous.

 

Safe2Tell now has a free mobile app that offers students, parents and community members a more convenient 

and modern alterna ve to the phone line. The app allows people to submit secure, anonymous safety concerns 

and to upload dialogue, images and video. The reports are sent to a live 24/7 answering point where they are 

handled by professionals who provide the informa on to Colorado school administrators and law enforcement 

officials. This can enable quick, effec ve interven ons that prevent violence and tragedies from happening.

Safe2Tell fields reports about a wide variety of threats, including:

• Bullying and physical threats

distrito u liza para cerciorarse que los estudiantes estén seguros, es mediante la asociación con la policía en programas 

como Safe2Tell, que es una inicia va estratégica financiada por la Oficina del Fiscal General del Departamento de Dere‐

  Newspaper Club: Students share their take on events around LMS.

Brain Bowl: Do you know every-thing? Come test out your vast knowledge in this team trivia challenge. Questions include math, science, history, current events, sports and literature. Meets in room 146, Wednesday mornings at 7:30.

Lego League: This is not about building with tiny plastic colorful pieces. This is about working as a team to build an autonomous robot that successfully completes tasks assigned by First Lego League Engi-neers. In addition, students will have a research project with a short presentation showing their innovative idea. Meets in the MPR Thursday and Friday mornings at 7:00.

TaG Cafe' Discussions and board games where stu-dents of all backgrounds can brainstorm ide-as, have meaningful conversations, or play board games together. Location and time yet to be decided.
