Imagine This ~ By Bob Philo Board Of Governors President

Over the last few years I have sometimes heard “What about the old members?” whenever the subject of adding new mem-bers comes up. Sometimes we forget all of the benefits that we can enjoy as existing or “old” members. We have Martinis With The Manager once a month but many existing members never attend. We have Half Price On Food nights every Wednesday but many members never attend. We have Bingo Night once a month but … We have Steak Nights at least once a month but … We have Girls Night Out but … We have Clubs Within A Club but … We have Kids’ Club but … We have Sunday Brunch but … By now you should get what I am saying. Our club has many extra benefits that are available to “old” members; and, if there is something else that you would like to see added, make a suggestion.

Now, about adding new members, we must do so to keep our club healthy. Did you know that every month for the past 10 years we have lost an average of ten (or more) members through natural attrition? People die, move away, get married, get divorced, etc. And the recent recession has added yet another reason for people to consider leaving the club.

It is important for the club to maintain a healthy membership roster to be able to continue all of those won-derful events I listed above. We will accomplish that by existing members – both old and new – nominating their friends, neighbors, or co-workers to membership in our club. We will have to continue to add new members (full privilege, tennis, social and dining) each month in order to replace those members we lose through natural attrition. And, we want to add even more than that so that we will re-trigger our Wish List Funds and enjoy more new friends at our club. Thanks for being a member.Bob Philo

This month Todd and I would like to thank everyone from the 2009 Ambassador’s for their time and hard work. We had a blast and truly enjoyed getting to know each and everyone of you. The club wouldn’t be as great and fun with out you. Thank you!!

This years Ambassadors are awesome too. We had a great meeting to kick off the 2010 Ambassadors Club and we are ready to rock. At our meeting we spent some time getting to know each other. We have some very funny and intriguing Ambassadors this year. Currently there are 10 amazing couples who have graciously volunteered their time to help us

welcome new members. We will be introducing them to you through out the year. To help get our new members acquainted with the club, we are also planning some great events. On top of that, Jill is keeping us busy with a great influx of new members. If you see any of us or Jill with new members or member candidates please make sure to stop by and say “hi” and welcome them to our club. This month we would like to introduce Ambassador’s Michael and Jana Porter. They have two children (Evan age 8, Lauren age 6). The Porter’s moved to McKinney in 2004 and joined Eldorado Country Club this last summer. Michael enjoys several other outdoor activities besides golf like hunting and fishing. Jana spends her spare time with kids, friends and cake decorating.Thank You For Being A Member!Todd & Wendy Hall

Ambassador News ~ By Todd & Wendy Hall Ambassador Co-Chairs

I want to thank everyone for the warm welcome I have received so far. I have met a lot of great people and look forward to meeting a lot more!

2010 is going to be a great year. Recently I have had a chance to meet many of you by hosting mini meet and greets at different parts of the Club. I did a week straight starting in the tennis area for the kick off of the Men’s Leagues and from there spent at least an hour at different spot around the Club each day. As the new guy here it gave me a chance to meet you all in the areas you use at the club. It is my spin off of “Where’s Waldo” with a bit of a twist. Usually wherever I was it involved some cocktails and prizes to be given out. I want to thank those of you who took the time out of your

using the club to say hello. This is something that I plan to continue to do periodically throughout the year. So keep an eye out for the “Where’s Jayson” events where I look forward to hosting you at your club and getting to meet those of you who I have not yet.Thank You For Being A MemberJayson Petersen

MGA Members and Future MGA Members

We may be off to a cold start but I am looking forward to a great 2010. 2009 was a very successful year for us and on behalf of the MGA I want to thank

last year’s Board for all their efforts.

We do start this year a bit behind on MGA membership at 174. This is down 16% from the start of 2009. It is important that all of us continue to focus on

encouraging folks to consider the MGA. Increasing our membership is so important that I expect to have a special Board appointed position solely fo-

cused on membership growth. This position, along with the entire MGA Board, will have building our membership at the top of the 2010 priority list. I encourage any current club members that may be interested in joining the MGA to let a current Board member know or contact the Pro Shop and we’ll

get in touch with you right away.

Our tournament mix and formats are very similar to last year. We will have some computer picked events, some pick your partner events and some indi-vidual events. And, of course, we will continue our annual ‘Lonely Guy”

and Two Man Match-Play events.

Once again the top ten point earners, as well as the Club Champion and “Lonely Guy” Champion will automatically make the Ryder Cup team ---leaving two Captain’s picks to be made. In a hard fought battle, HCCC took the Cup from us last year. Make no mistake – we will get it back this year.

I also want to make special note of an open MGA Board Meeting we will be having later this year. This will be a chance for all MGA members to pro-

vide their feedback directly to the Board – what is working and more impor-tantly what changes you might like to see. Once we have a date solidified I

will get word out to the membership.

On behalf of the MGA Board I want to thank you in advance for your support and participation in all of our events this year. I look forward to the fun,

competition, trash talk and meeting new members.Thank You For Being A Member

Eldorado Golf Talk~ By Scott McClinton

Head Golf Professional

You got it!! The ball eating pampas grass on number 9 and number fifteen are

long gone. Not only do these areas look more natural after the removal of the bushes the playability of both holes should be

increased.

This was one of the many projects that needed to be addressed this winter. Hopefully we will be able to get a few more accomplished before the arrival of spring. There is one thing that you can do to

help ensure that more of these projects get done in the slower winter months.

Member Candidates!! We need them now more than ever. Reach out to your network and bring Jill names and phone numbers and she

will do the rest. I love to do these projects to improve the golf course, but in order for me to do them I need your help.

Thank You for being a member!!Aaron Schick, CGCS

Come and join the Eldorado Book Club and review the latest or recommended books. We will have a group discussion of each book, fol-lowed by members suggesting books to be read in the future months. We meet in the ladies locker room the second Tuesday of the month at 7 PM.

Our February book review is "The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo" by Stieg Larsson.

The March book choice is" The Elegance of the Hedgehog" by Muriel Barbery.

We would like to start off by thanking the club for choosing us as members of the month. If you don’t know us we are Suzanne, Dave and Colin. We joined the club 4 ½ years ago but it feels like it’s been a lot longer. When we moved to McKinney 13 years ago we had lunch with our realtor at the original club house and I believe the comment Suzanne and I said to each other was some day we’ll join. At that point we were busy with our careers and had a newborn on the way and we knew we wouldn’t have the time to use the club. Eight years later that newborn is one of the reasons we joined. We wanted a place for Colin to learn how to play golf and be safe after school and in the summer. This has been one of the smartest decisions we’ve made because golf has taught him discipline, courtesy and respect.

Many thanks to the club and its staff for all you have done for him. We also can not thank the members enough who look out for him. We always get reports back about seeing Colin out on the coarse playing golf or driving range and in the summer at the pool or the sports grill we appreciate and welcome your comments.

Colin wanted to give a shout out to all the guys at the pro shop and a big thank you for all you do! To all the men who have endured the pain of watching me try to play golf on Tuesday and Thursday mornings thank you for your support and lessons. You have helped me come a long way in this relaxing enjoyable sport! Suzanne wishes she had more time to improve her golf but she is just thankful the couple times of year she gets to play with Colin and me.

We all enjoy the family atmosphere in the sports grill and the ease of running up and getting a bite to eat. With all the programs available at Eldorado along with great people it truly is a second home to us. Not once have we felt like outsiders from New Jersey!!!

Tennis Talk At Eldorado

~ By Grady McKee Director of Tennis

Hey Everyone,The Ping Pong Tournament was a huge success! We had quiet a few

members show up with their game faces on. A great way to keep the kids active in the winter months is to get them involved in our junior classes after school. Ladies, it is never too cold for a margarita, so make sure you get signed up for Rackets & Ritas Tuesday Nights. If your New Years Resolution was to loose a few inches, why don't you join us for Open cardio Drills on Saturday Mornings? 2010 is sure to be a year full of events. Stay tuned for more events to come. Thank You For Being A Member!Grady McKee
