Type A influenza virus is the most virulent form of influenza and the one that causes the most se-vere illness. This virus often originates in pop-ulations of wild birds, poultry, or swine (includ-ing pigs and hogs), so different strains are some-
times referred to as avian (bird) or swine flu.
To help stop the spread of flu: Cover your nose and mouth with a tis-sue when you cough or sneeze. Throw the tissue in the trash after you use it. Wash your hands often with soap and water

1908-Louis L’Amour born
Louis L’Amour, the prolific author of scores of bestselling western novels, is born in James-town, North Dakota.
An indifferent student, L’Amour dropped out of high school at age 15. Over the next two de-cades, he traveled around the world working in an amazing variety of jobs. At various times, he tried his hand at being a cowboy, seaman, long-shoreman, prizefighter, miner, and fruit picker. During World War II, L’Amour served time in Europe as an officer in the tanks corps.
After returning from the war, L’Amour be-gan writing short stories and novels. His spare, flinty style caught the eyes of several editors, and L’Amour began to make a living as a writer. His big break came when a novel he wrote at the age of 46 became the basis for the popular John Wayne movie Hondo. Although L’Amour had not set out to become a writer of Westerns, he began producing more of what readers and editors clearly wanted. He wrote several oth-er screenplay/novels, including the epic 1962 movie, How the West Was Won. By the mid-1970s, he had written 62 books, most of them Westerns.
L’Amour’s best-loved novels feature three pi-oneering families: the Sacketts, the Chantrys, and the Talons. L’Amour produced convincing and moving historical novels that spanned cen-turies and celebrated the strength and spirit of the American West. Most of his books also fea-ture rough-hewn but intelligent men. “When you open a rough, hard country,” L’Amour once said, “you don’t open it with a lot of panty-waists.” In the tradition of classic Westerns like Owen Wister ’s The Virginian, women primarily serve as love interests in need of protection.
Using extensive historical research to ensure authenticity, L’Amour avoided many of the sim-plistic cliches and racist stereotypes of earlier Westerns. Although he occasionally cast Indians as villains, he also offered sympathetic portraits that reflected an understanding and sympathy for different cultures and history.
Although he had written 108 books by the time he died in 1988, L’Amour considered himself a serious author and blamed the lack of critical respect on the fact that his books were Westerns. Still, having sold more than 225 million copies of his novels, L’Amour was one of the most pop-ular and influential western authors of the 20th century. In recognition of his vivid depictions of America’s past, Congress awarded him the Con-gressional Gold Medal in 1983.

Business Horoscopes Aries An opportunity for spiritual growth will arrive in early March. Don’t turn down a chance to work in
seclusion. Being set apart from the group will give you a chance to develop your creativity, trust your intuition, and strengthen your emotional resources. By March 23, a business partnership may come to a close. The circumstances will be confusing, but don’t lose any sleep over it. Going solo will actually be beneficial. You’ll be free to pursue a different class of client or customer. As a natural pioneer, you’ll take pleasure in this challenge. This cloud has a thick silver lining.
TaurusA group project will sound more rewarding than it really is. Beware of getting too involved in this task.
The days around March 8 could be particularly successful, so be extra kind to yourself. The second half of the month could make you aware of some health restrictions. Resist the temptation to push yourself when you’re tired. By conserving your strength you’ll be able to meet your responsibilities without getting ex-hausted. It isn’t worth jeopardizing your well-being for the sake of work. Get enough sleep, eat nutritious food, and take gentle exercise when you can - and avoid working overtime.
GeminiThe first half of March could bring a professional disappointment. A career path that once looked prom-
ising could close, making you anxious and sad. Try to remember that whenever one door closes, a window opens. The Universe is giving you a golden opportunity to adjust your course. Look for another way to stand out at work. It may be necessary to leave a division on or around March 23. A difference of opinion won’t allow you to exercise your talent. The deck is being reshuffled, but you aren’t out of the game. Col-leagues who admire your versatility will welcome you into the fold.
CancerAn ethical matter will come to your attention on or around March 8. It may be necessary to file an official
complaint or testify on behalf of a colleague. Summon your courage and obey your conscience. Telling the truth is the only way to bring justice to an abusive situation. During the second half of the month you might decide to spend less time at work. Devoting more emotional energy to your family will bring a welcome balance to your life. Contrary to what you might think, cultivating a rewarding personal life will actually make you more effective on the job.
