We welcome you with open hearts and open doors on this October Sabbath. May the blessing that your heart seeks most be God’s gift to you as you worship Him today.

WELCOME!

THE FOURTH WATCH

Does America have a future? Of course it does. But I fear for it.

The presidential debate on Tuesday evening reveals a nation sharply divided, each candidate championing the cause of his political supporters. Class division, racial division, economic division, philosophical or ideological division—while it can be argued that every election exposes the divide in our nation, the reality is that this one seems ratcheted up exponentially, no small thanks to the incendiary fueling injected into our national conversation by 24/7 “real time” internet commentary.

Consider the potential fall-out from either election outcome. Were the President to be reelected, the hostility of the political right in this nation could threaten governmental gridlock before which the past four years would pale in comparison. Were the President to be defeated, the bitter outcry of the political left

REVIVAL & REFORMATION

God is the Father of all mankind. God’s love is not confined by

doctrine, but His care and power to endure are extended to all who make a covenant with Him.

Pray for Christ ians of al l denominations in the following countries and many others too numerous to mention; that they will maintain the character of Christ, and remain faithful no matter what:• Kyrgyzstan–Muslims&Christiansin conflict• Kenya–Somaliaborder• Iran–generalpersecution• India–arrestedforbaptisms• Sudan–Muslims&Christiansinconflict• Syria–war-tornarea,generalpopulation and Christians targeted• Russia–churchesdestroyed• Egypt–Copticpersecutionanduncertain future• NorthernNigeria–Muslims&Christians in conflict• Indonesia–Christianspersecutedand churches burned• Laos–Christianspersecuted• NorthKorea–oppressionofChristianity• Pakistan–Christiangirlchargedwith blasphemy• China–generaloppressionofChristians

If we are faithful, we will be welcomed by all those who have been faithful even unto death! In heaven we may be wearing robes just like them, with red ribbons on the border!

But the good news can be found inPsalm146,“PraisetheLord!Letallthat Iampraise theLord. Iwillpraisethe Lord as long as I live. I will singpraises to my God with my dying breath. Don’t put your confidence in powerful people; there is no help for you there. When they breathe their last, they return to the earth, and all their plans die with them. But joyful are those who have the God of Israel as their helper, whose hope is in the Lord their God. He made heavenand earth, the sea, and everything in them. He keeps every promise forever. He gives justice to the oppressed and foodtothehungry.TheLordfreestheprisoners. The Lord opens the eyesof the blind. The Lord lifts up thosewho are weighed down. The Lordloves the godly. The Lord protectsthe foreigners among us. He cares for the orphans and widows, but he frustrates the plans of the wicked. The Lordwillreignforever.HewillbeyourGod, O Jerusalem, throughout the generations. Praise the Lord!” [New Living Translation]

Please pray for Pre-Med students in their Loma Linda UniversityInterviews this Monday–Wednesday,October22–October24.

Continue to pray for the Seminary students taking comprehensive exams on Mondays till October 29.

Pray for PMC members, that we will become on fire for God and be faithful witnesses to enlarge His kingdom.

PRAYFor our Juniors to accept Jesus

as their Savior

MORE INFODennis Hollingsead / 471.3629

[email protected]

Over the last two years, first with 6th graders and now with a new class

of 5th graders, we have been focusing on God’s Eternity Timeline where there is NO death, suffering, or sin. We have a white string stretched from one corner of the ceiling to the other. The left side has a sign “Eternity Past” and the right, “Eternity Future.” This reminds us that everything in God’s universe was perfect in the past and will be that way again. Directly in the middle is a red-string triangle attached to the white string. The red string represents the history and timeline for this earth including creation, the flood, the cross, second coming, and lake of fire. As soon as a person accepts Jesus as their Savior, they jump spiritually to the Eternity Timeline. Even though in this world we will die (sleep in Jesus), we have eternal life now (see John 5:24-29; John 6:40, 54; John 10:27, 28).

We are alsomemorizing Bible textsthat are very important. Psalm 23 and John 14:1-3 are two passages that we are currently working on. Future texts that we plan to memorize arePsalm 121, 1 Corinthians 13, and the

10 commandments in Exodus 20. Memorizing Scripture teaches God’struth and also helps us do better in school by expanding our memory.

We like to use stories such as: “Who Washed Jesus’ Feet?” “The Children That Did Not Burn,” “The Good Garbage Woman,” “Israel, Pigs, & Idols,” and “David Meets Uriah, Bathsheba, and Solomon in Heaven” to teach spiritual realities. By using Jesus’ method of teaching, we pray we can reach our youth in an unforgettable way.

Bible study and Pastor Masoka and I had the privilege of studying the Amazing Facts series with him.It turned out to be a family affair ,with his mother and sister joining the study from the beginning and a neighbor joining us for the last four lessons. The study has ended but I still keep in touch. So far this gentleman is staying out of trouble. In Ecclesiastes 11:4,5 God calls us to be risk takers and to sow seeds. We may not know how He, who made all, and His Holy Spirit work but we can pray that the whole family

will respond to the promptings of the Holy Spirit and submit their life totallytotheLord.

Would you like to have an opportunity to sow seeds for God? Jail ministry is looking for two volunteer pastors to help in the ministry. If you are interested please contact the PMC office.

Thank you for supporting the jail ministry through your prayers, encouragement, time spent in ministry, the donation of Bibles and inspirational books, and your monetary contributions. – Broderick Morris

Wisconsin Dells was the destination for this year’s

Andrews Academy Senior Class trip. The group of students and sponsors stayed at beautiful Sunset Bay Resort, enjoying the spacious condos and indoor swimming pool. Each condo had a full kitchen that the students and staff used to create delicious meals. In fact, there was a little cooking competition judged by the sponsors. In the end, Zach Randolph’s and Jessica Snively’s groups created the tastiest dishes. The resort also had a beach, fire pit, kayaks, and canoes–all ingredientsfor a fun-filled time of bonding.

The group took side trips to a number of other places. They especially liked the Kalahari ThemePark with its rope course, go-carts, laser tag, and mini-golf course. On a boat trip down the Wisconsin River, they viewed the beautiful rock formations that have made this part of Wisconsin famous. The trip also included taking in the Shakespearian play Richard III at Spring Green, WI. Those seniors enrolled in the Academy’s Shakespeare

and Composition class especially appreciated this opportunity to see one of the texts they studied brought to life.

Service time was also incorporated into the trip. Students helped paint a nursery and also did some projects at the resort. Evening worships, which were followed by lively group discussions, proved inspiring. “The worships were a real eye-opener for me on how spiritual my class could be,” said Victoria Curtis. “I had no idea there were so many thoughtful and philosophical minds that could come to such astounding conclusions on deep questions.”

“It was a great trip,” commented Gielle Kuhn, Senior Class President.“My classmates and I enjoyed the time to relax, have fun, and get to know each other. We bonded over the shared experiences and learned from each other’s thoughts during worships. Class trip was brilliant, and I’m so thankful for our parents, sponsors, Andrews Academy, and God for allowing it to happen.”

AA / A TRIP TO REMEMBER

THE FOURTH WATCH CONTINUED

could threaten vast swaths of national life through economic boycott and strikes. The truth is that either election outcome could potentially sound the death knell for an already moribund economy. Class and racial divisions? The fallout implications of such potential strife is beyond calculation (but not imagination). I fear for America’s future.

Does that mean Christian voters, Seventh-day Adventists included, should abdicate their citizenry rightand responsibility to vote? Not at all. In the words of our Lord, we must“render to Caesar the things that are Caesar’s” (see Matthew 22:21). But given what lies ahead for this nation, irrespective of our political persuasions or private votes, the second half to Jesus’ admonition is even more binding, “and render to God the things that are God’s.”

And what belongs to God in a season of such national divide, on the eve of such economic distress? Surely this hour demands our most fervent prayers for this land. “Therefore I exhort first of all that supplications, prayers, intercessions, and giving of thanks be made for all . . . for kings and all who are in authority, that we may lead a quiet and peaceable life in all godliness and reverence” (1 Timothy 2:1, 2). We must band together to pray for the leaders of this nation and every nation on earth. The unthinkable fallout inevitable with economic collapse portends a chapter neither the church nor the nation is prepared

to face. May not God yet spare His people for the critical Three Angels mission that is our raison detre? That is, after all, Paul’s compelling reason for intercessory prayer: “For this [praying] is good and acceptable in the sight of God our Savior, who desires all . . . to be saved and to come to the knowledge of the truth” (1 Timothy 2:3, 4). We must pray and labor for the salvation of Americans, for the salvation of the inhabitants of every nation on earth—for all earth children are to be the recipients of God’s urgent Three Angel appeal and warning.

In my short lifetime I have not witnessed a more consequential season than this one. And so I earnestly pray for the awakening of the church I love and for the salvation of the country I inhabit. And I urge you now to join me in these prayers.

MUSIC ALIVEOUREHELPE

We may never know just when and for what circumstance

reformer Martin Luther wrote hisepic hymn text “Ein feste Burg” (“A Mighty Fortress”). Was it in response in 1527 to the burning at the stake ofhis friend LeonhardKaiser?Wasit in response to the convocation at Speyer, Germany in 1529 in which German princes protested their loss of liberties? This text exists in some 200 languages and more than five

dozen English renderings. Whatprofound strength there is in the 1539 rendering by Miles Coverdale of a portion:

“[OureGod]hathbeneverourehelpeand sucoureIn all the troubles that we have ben in. Therefore wyl we never dredeFor any wonderous dede . . .Our God hath them al i his hond.”

Liftupyoureyestotheheavens, andlookontheearthbeneath.Fortheheavens will vanish away like smoke, the earth will grow old like a garment, and those who dwell in it will die in like manner; but My salvation will be forever, and My righteousness will not be abolished.

“Listen to Me, you who know righteousness, you people in whose heart is My law: do not fear the reproach of men, nor be afraid of their insults.

For the moth will eat them up like a garment, and the worm will eat them like wool; but My righteousness will be forever, and My salvation from generation to generation.”

Awake, awake, put on strength, O arm of the Lord! Awake as in the ancient days, in the generations of old. Are You not the arm that cut Rahab apart, and wounded the serpent?

Are You not the One who dried up the sea, the waters of the great deep; that made the depths of the sea a road for the redeemed to cross over?
