37355Sugar gliders are very social and need and crave lots of companionship.
Sugar gliders have furry membranes that extend from their wrists to their ankles (the membrane is called a pa-tagium) that allows them to glide through the air. In the wild they move from tree to tree by gliding. Their hind feet have a large, opposable big toe that helps them grip branches, and the second and third toe forms a grooming comb.

Keep Your Money Where It Is
It’s not wise to make any huge purchases or move your money around three to six months before buying a new home. You don’t want to take any big chances with your credit profile. Lenders need to see that you’re reliable and they want a complete paper trail so that they can get you the best loan possible. If you open new credit cards, amass too much debt or buy a lot of big-ticket items, you’re going to have a hard time getting a loan.
Get Pre-Approved for Your Home Loan
There’s a big difference between a buyer being pre-qualified and a buyer who has a pre-approved mortgage. Anybody can get pre-qualified for a loan. Getting pre-ap-proved means a lender
has looked at all of your financial information and they’ve let you know how much you can afford and how much they will lend you. Being pre-ap-proved will save you a lot of time and energy so you are not running around looking at houses you can’t afford. It also gives you the opportunity to shop around for the best deal and the best interest rates. Do your research: Learn about junk fees, processing fees or points and make sure there ar-en’t any hidden costs in the loan.
Avoid a Border Dis-pute
It’s absolutely essen-tial to get a survey done on your property so you know exactly what you’re buying. Know-ing precisely where your property lines are may save you from a potential
dispute with your neigh-bors. Also, your property tax is likely based on how much property you have, so it is best to have an ac-curate map drawn up.
Stalk the Neighbor-hood
Before you buy, get the lay of the land – drop by morning noon and night. Many homebuyers have become completely dis-traught because they thought they found the perfect home, only to find out the neighborhood wasn’t for them. Drive by the house at all hours of the day to see what’s happening in the neigh-borhood.
Do your regular com-mute from the house to make sure it is something you can deal with on a daily basis. Find out how far it is to the nearest gro-cery store and other ser-vices.
Even if you don’t have kids, research the schools because it affects the value of your home in a very big way. If you buy a house in a good school district versus bad school district even in the same town, the value can be af-fected as much as 20 per-cent.

Buying a house based on emotions is just going to break your heart. There’s a big difference between your emotions and your instincts. Going with your instincts means that you recognize that you’re get-ting a great house for a good value. Going with your emotions is being obsessed with the paint color or the backyard. It’s an investment, so stay calm and be wise.

• There are approxi-mately 4,740 species of frogs around the entire world. There are about 90 species of frogs in the United States.• The world’s tiniest frogs are smaller than a dime, and the larg-
est frog can grow to be longer than a foot and weigh more than 7 pounds.• Frogs don’t need to drink the way we do: they absorb water through their permeable skin.
One of the most at-tractive of Tennessee’s frogs, the Green Treefrog is a sleek, long-legged inhabitant of cypress swamps and marshes in the western portion of the state.Green Treefrogs are
1.25 to 2.25 inches long. They are usually bright green with a distinct white or yellow stripe from the mouth to the thigh. Occasionally, the back is flecked with yel-low. However, it may be nearly yellow when it is calling or a dull green or gray while it is inactive during cool weather. These frogs are found
in forested areas and swamps in western Ten-nessee that have abun-dant vegetation sur-rounding the shoreline.Green Treefrogs are
insect eaters and they favor flies, mosquitoes and other small insects. They appear to be most attracted to active prey.
Frogs can be found on every continent in the world except Antarctica. However, the highest concentra-tion of frogs is found in warmer tropical climes.

1986 Shoemaker becomes oldest man to win Kentucky Derby
On May 3, 1986, 54-year-old Willie Shoe-maker, aboard 18/1 shot Ferdinand, becomes the oldest jockey ever to win the Kentucky Derby. The victory was just one of Shoemak-er ’s 8,833 wins, a record that stood until 1999, when it was broken by Laffit Pincay.
William Lee Shoemaker was born prema-turely on August 19, 1931, in the West Texas town of Fabens. He weighed just two pounds at birth, and doctors predicted he would not survive the night. Even as a full-grown man, “Shoe” was just 4 feet 11 inches tall and 98 pounds.
When he was 10, Shoemaker moved with his father to Los Angeles, where he won a Gold-en Gloves boxing championship in the 95-105 pound class. Seven years later, on March 19, 1949, he first rode a horse professionally; he was 17. Shoemaker won his first professional race a month later, and soon became known for his patience and great hands. He rarely used his whip and instead relied mostly on the bit and the harness. In 1953, Shoe set a record for most wins in one year with 485. His record in Triple Crown races was similarly outstanding: He won a total of four Kentucky Derbys, two Preakness Stakes and five Belmont Stakes. He placed or showed (second and third place, re-spectively) in another 14 Triple Crown races over the course of his career
Shoemaker ’s most famous run, however, was one he did not win. In the 1957 Kentucky Derby, he mistook the 1-16 mile marker for the finish line and stood up in celebration. He and his horse, Gallant Man, ended up los-ing the race by a nose. Shoe responded with characteristic calm, explaining to fans and re-porters that the course had been changed and that he’d been confused by the lack of a finish marker.
After recovering from a broken leg that forced him to miss a year of racing, Shoe broke the career record for wins on Septem-ber 7, 1970, passing Johnny Longden with his 6,033rd victory. Shoe’s last win, on horse Beau Genius, came nearly 20 years later on January 20, 1990, at Gulfstream Park in Florida. It was his 8,833rd win in 40,350 races. He collected nearly $123 million in purses in his 40-year career.
In 1991, the year after Shoemaker retired from racing, a single car drunk-driving acci-dent left him paralyzed from the neck down. Though he was unable to walk, he retained his sense for horses and returned to training them from his wheelchair.
Shoemaker died in his sleep on October 12, 2003, at his home in San Marino, California.

Astrology Corner
It may only be spring, but it is already feeling like summertime. The days are hot, the nights are warm and sitting in a hammock eating fruit sounds like the best thing to do.
Astrology readings for fun and entertainment purposes onlyMay 3 Zodiac: As a Taurus born on May 3rd, you are
well known for your charming and practical nature. Al-though you prefer to keep a small group of friends, many people have always found you pleasant and witty. This quality may be a result of your ability to understand others and always say the “right” thing. While those closest to you are fully aware of your charms, they may be less likely to notice your practical nature. You are hardly frivolous with your efforts or resources, as you are always striving for comfort and security.
May 3 Element: The Taurus’s paired element is Earth and in fact, you have the only fixed relationship with Earth of all the zodiac signs. As is the case with all Earth zodiac signs, your elemental connection makes you realistic, pru-dent and grounded. As this quality keeps your head out of the clouds, it will play a large role in your future success. Your connection with Earth is special in the fact that it gives your personality the stubborn and stable qualities of an im-movable bolder. The influence of Earth does not come with-out its negative qualities however, as an overly cautious mindset can cause you to miss out on valuable experiences.
May 3 Planetary Influence: The Taurus is under the planetary rulership of Venus, but as you were born in the second Decan, or part, of the sign, you receive a generous helping of Mercury’s mysterious power as well. While the power of Venus can be credited with your warm, social and art-loving qualities, it is the influence of Mercury that pow-ers your gifts for communication and mental agility. Your unique combination of planetary powers makes you the most socially thoughtful and charismatic of all the Taurus Decans. While others are quick to speak their mind, you prefer to think things through and address all sides of a sit-uation. In love, you are honest and faithful, which are qual-ities that you value greatly.

Give a shoe, help needy animals and people
Shoes are being col-lected by Helping Animals of Warren County. Those dona-tions could mean more than foot comfort.
Helping Animals of Warren County, a non-profit organization, is conducting a shoe col-lection drive to raise funds for the animal shelters and rescue groups in Warren County. Funds are earned based on the number of pairs collect-ed with Funds2Orgs buying all the donated items. Those funds will benefit animals in Warren County through the organization.
All donated shoes
donated will be redis-tributed throughout the Funds2Orgs network in developing nations. The national organiza-tion helps impover-ished people start, maintain and grow businesses in countries such as Haiti, Honduras and other nations in Central America and Africa. Proceeds from the shoe sales are used to feed, clothe and house their families. One budding entrepre-neur in Haiti earned enough to send her son to law school.
By donating shoes to HAWC, people can help benefit two worthy causes.
“We are excited about our shoe drive,” said Hollie Cox, president of
HAWC. “We know most people have extra shoes in their closets they would like to donate to us and help those less fortunate become self-sufficient. It’s a win-win for everyone.”
Anyone can help by donating gently worn, used or new shoes at any of the collection sites in Warren County.
Drop-off locations are: Warren County Animal Control at 169
Paws Trail, Warren County High School, Puppy Love Trash & Treasure at 936 Old Smithvil le Road, Spartan Probation Services at 121 W. Main Street, Citizen’s Tri-
County Bank at 101 W. Main Street, and Gary’s Salon at 119 W. Main Street.
For more information, visit Helping Animals of Warren County on Facebook.
by LISA HOBBSReporter for the Southern Standard(McMinnville, Tennessee)
Donating an unwanted pair of shoes can lend a helping hand to local animals. Helping Ani-mals of Warren County will take those shoes and sell them to Funds2Orgs. The funds will then benefit animal shelters and rescue groups in Warren County.
