Austin radiological Association (ArA) is pleased to offer breast tomosynthesis at our Women’s imaging center in central and North Austin as well as our southwood and Kyle locations. Also known as 3D mammography, breast tomosynthesis is an enhanced mammogram that allows radiologists to view the breast layer by layer. Multiple images, or “slices,” are taken of different angles of the breast, revealing details obscured by overlapping tissue.
A big step forward in cancer detection.Breast tomosynthesis is a breakthrough in the early detection of breast cancer— radiologists are finding up to 41 percent more invasive breast cancers. Plus, fewer women get called back for additional imaging, reducing anxiety and expense. According to Dr. sarah Avery, head of ArA’s breast imaging team, “early detection is the best defense against breast cancer, and breast tomosynthesis has been shown to be more effective in detecting cancer than conventional mammography. Women with dense breast tissue can certainly benefit as breast tomosynthesis has been shown to reveal cancers formerly obscured by breast structures.”
Similar to a conventional mammogram.Getting a breast tomosynthesis exam is exactly like getting a standard mammogram except the scan takes a few seconds longer as the machine arm arcs over the breast. The amount of radiation is below the fDA safety range and has been determined to be safe and effective.
Breast tomosynthesis is covered by Medicare. As it is a new technology, insurance companies are still establishing coverage. ArA staff will work with each patient to determine their insurance status.

A simple solution to keeping a white smile white is simply to have regular cleanings with your hygienist every four to six months to remove the yellowish layer of tartar buildup, and then to use an at-home whitening system about once a month to remove new stains that may set in. We also find that people who have worn down the edges of their teeth will often look older than their years. for some, simply smoothing the edges is enough. Lisa M. Jukes, MD, is a board-certified oB/GyN whose primary practice location is in Westlake Hills. she also offers appointments at two satellite clinics in Marble falls and in Lakeway. No longer delivering babies, Dr. Jukes focuses on all gynecological services with an emphasis on overall health and well-being. she specializes in menstrual problems including too heavy bleeding or frequent bleeding, irregular bleeding, severe cramps, endometriosis, ovarian cysts, uterine fibroids, urinary incontinence, pelvic organ prolapse, peri- and post-menopause issues, Pcos diagnosis/treatment and diagnosis of infertility.

What are the signs of an abnormal period?one sign is pain that doesn’t respond to Motrin, or [the patient] has to dose frequently and take several Motrin to be able to get relief and go about their normal activity. if your pain does not respond to various therapies (healthy diet, exercise, pain relievers, birth control), if you are bleeding between periods, experiencing a heavy flow or if your menstrual cycle is interfering with your quality of life, preventing you from going to work or leaving the house, then it is time to seek help from a women’s health professional.
What are the treatment options?The first step would be to see how the body responds to pain relievers and possibly hormonal contraceptives. if the body is not responding, the next step is evaluation and possible ultrasound in order to determine the etiology. The treatment depends on what we find and whether that person wants to have children or has completed their family. if the findings are suggestive of endometriosis based on history and physical exam, then we typically proceed with a laparoscopy, which, in my experience, i prefer using da Vinci surgery.

Twin Liquors is a third-generation, Austin family-owned-and-operated wine and spirits business that started after Prohibition. This year, Twin Liquors celebrates its 78th anniversary. The third-generation owners have expanded the business to a successful company consisting of 77 locations across 13 counties in central Texas.
