Pine Meadows

Directory

of

Recreational Activities

A message from the President,

Pine Meadows Homeowners Association (PMHA)

The range of activities available in Pine Meadows should mean that everyone can

find a few things to do as hobbies, or to further the social experience, and that is

what all of our resident volunteers strive for. Every activity, event and function is

conceived, planned, organised and staffed by resident volunteers, whose collective

time and energy are both considerable and absolutely invaluable to the community.

We invite you to make full use of the facilities and activities available, and to

remember, once in a while, to thank the people who put things together for us.

We also invite new residents and those who have yet, to participate in these

volunteer efforts, to join in and share the workload as soon as you feel

comfortable here. Our secret has been the continuity of the volunteer efforts, so

new ideas and energy are always needed, and are always welcomed with open arms.

Stay Healthy - Get Involved and Have Fun

Minor Repair and Maintenance

Many of the small repairs and maintenance jobs are done by volunteers and we only need to pay for

materials. This helps to keep our monthly maintenance fees down and we all benefit.

Kitchen

Dishwashing supplies, professional cleaning of the Kitchen, loss and breakage. Our dedicated Kitchen and

Reservation Committee keeps the kitchen clean on a monthly basis and works to ensure supplies are

available for the use of groups who wish to use the kitchen.

Repair and Replacement Fund

Our early residents actively participated in fund-raising activities to purchase some of the furniture and

equipment in the Recreation Centre. We now maintain a Repair and Replacement Fund for this purpose.

In addition, funds from PMHA goes toward purchasing small items and supplies for the Community

Centre as needed (e.g. sound system cables, batteries, microphones, etc.)

We invite everyone to become a PMHA MEMBER and help keep our community at the high standard

it now enjoys. Contact any Board Member for further information.

The

Recreation Centre

Pine Meadows is an active place – a place for doing things. This is a place where

there is not enough time to do everything that is available to you.

The centre of community gatherings and activity is The Recreation Centre. It is

here where friends gather – where things happen!

- The Grand Hall, with its fully equipped kitchen, audio visual systems and

WiFi, is used to host meetings; social events and many other activities.

- The Board Room, with its data projector system, provides space for various

committee meetings.

- The Crafts Room is the centre of activity for the Pine Needle Crafts group.

- The Lounge, with its gas fireplace, flat screen TV and free WiFi, is a relaxed

spot to sit and chat with friends and neighbours.

- The Library, adjacent to the Lounge, offers a wide selection of excellently

maintained books for your reading pleasure.

- The Games Room includes: billiard tables; dart boards; a shuffleboard and

various other equipment.

- The Exercise Room provides a weight machine, treadmills, a stationary

bicycle and a rowing machine to enable your fitness activities.

- The Indoor Pool; Hot tub and Sauna round out the facilities of the

Recreation Centre.

Outdoors, for your enjoyment, are the: Tennis/Pickleball Courts; Shuffleboard

Courts; Campfire Ring; Horseshoe Pits; Garden Plots; Golf and Walking Trails.

Across the road from The Recreation Centre is the well-equipped Carving and

Woodworking Shop.

Welcome to Pine Meadows and be sure to check out the flyers in this package as

well as the notice boards in the Recreation Centre, for details of current and

upcoming activities.

The Social Committee The Social Committee is a group of seven to ten volunteers, including a

Chair, Treasurer, and Secretary. In addition, extra volunteers, when

needed, are drawn from a list.

This Committee is responsible for running major monthly social events,

designed to appeal to a broad range of interests in our community. The

Committee meets once per month, usually two to three weeks prior to

an event, to finalize details and also to update the four month planning

calendar.

The events vary and have included:

Pot Luck and BBQ Suppers with after

dinner activities

Breakfasts (occasional at 9:00 a.m., prior

to Koffee Klatch)

Tree Lighting event in late November, to

start the Festive Season

New Year’s Dinner and Dance

Canada Day Celebration with strawberry shortcake

Spring and Fall dances with either a live band or disc jockey

Combination Dinner/Races/Casino night at the Elora Grand River

Raceway

Our Committee members have a lot of fun planning and executing the

many events. We welcome new ideas and there are opportunities to

organize and lead events or just come out and help. Many spouses of

members join in and are a wonderful help in ensuring success of the

programs.

Come and join us - no specific experience necessary.

The Pine Meadows Audio Visual Systems Pine Meadows has an Audio Visual system in the Grand Hall that is used anytime

the community gathers. It may be for Koffee Klatch, to listen to a guest speaker,

for a social event such as a play or a dance, for a golf banquet, or to listen to the

various musical talents of Pine Meadows residents. A group of dedicated and

willing residents operates the equipment. It is their responsibility to set up,

operate, disassemble and store the Audio Visual equipment. At the present time,

operating the system involves knowing how to set up and operate the

computer system, internet, television, microphones, direct input

boxes, the sound mixer, and various input devices. Support and

training is provided to any resident who wishes to serve on the

Audio Visual Team. For more information, please contact:

interested residents whose tasks are to review the newsletter prior to

publication, to ensure that the content is in keeping with the guidelines for

submission and to assist in the distribution. Printing of the Pine Line is currently

done at the Highland Pines Campground office. New team members are welcome.

Security Each evening, volunteers give generously of their time to help with a

security walk-through of our Recreation Centre. These volunteers help

to protect our assets and serve to control maintenance costs.

The security walk-through is a simple task requiring just 15 or 20

minutes each evening. Volunteers sign up for one week stints, from

Wednesday to Tuesday of the following week. This schedule avoids any

volunteer from overlapping a second weekend.

Volunteers are invited to sign up on the Recreation

Centre notice board (outside the Grand Hall entrance).

member on your first night’s walk-through.

The Comedy Club There is an old show biz saying "Dying's easy

it's comedy that's hard", to which I heartily

agree but when you hear an audience roar with

laughter it's well worth the effort. I've put on

sketches/plays for Pine Meadows for

approximately 20 years and can honestly say

the only frustration I have is finding enough

actors for the parts.

So if acting is on your bucket list, please give me a call.

We always need audiences so I hope to see you at our next

performance.

Welcome to Pine Meadows

Koffee Klatch Welcome residents – new and established! At 10:00 a.m.

every Wednesday (with a few exceptions), residents

gather in the Grand Hall for what is generally an informal

get-together, hosted by a member of the Koffee Klatch

Program Committee. Announcements are made and pertinent

information, in general, is exchanged. There is usually a guest speaker

who enlightens our group on various topics of interest. *please note

that the Koffee Klatch committee bring in guest speakers for a topic

interest purpose only and are not endorsing any company.

The current Koffee Klatch Program Committee includes:

Judy Busch, 519 212-1704 &

Sue Anderson, 226 486-2301

All this is accompanied by a bottomless cup of coffee (decaf or

regular), or tea, for only 50 cents!! To help defray clean-up time,

residents usually bring their own mugs but there is a plentiful supply of

cups on hand in the kitchen for those who forget.

Coffee and tea is made by volunteers who sign up in advance. A sign up

list is posted on the notice board outside the Grand Hall for your

convenience. This is not an onerous task and everything is supplied out

of the coffee fund, which comes from the 50 cents collected.

Barb Cook is the Koffee Klatch coordinator and ensures that there are

always sufficient supplies on hand. Barb is

available to guide new volunteers through the

process of making the tea and coffee. Maybe one

day that will be you!

The Pine Meadows Woodworking Shop Greetings and welcome to new residents!

The Wood Shop is equipped for Woodworkers at

all skill levels. Users are asked to contribute a

$15.00 annual fee for the year July 1 to June 30,

which coincides with the Pine Meadows

Homeowners Association (PMHA) year.

We usually have around 35 to 40 members who

enjoy coming to the shop when they may have a

small project around the home. A number of members are very active

and from these we have drawn a committee to oversee the operation

and maintenance of the shop.

The shop is open seven days a week from 7 a.m. to 11 p.m.

The Woodworking Shop is financially self-sustaining. In addition to the

dues which help pay for routine supplies and maintenance, a number of

members make items for sale at our July Craft Sales.

We also complete woodworking projects for the

community (residents and the Centre) on a cost-plus

basis and of course we accept donations in

recognition of such activities. In the end, it is all

about the Joy of Woodworking, a wonderful hobby!

We would be pleased to give any prospective resident member an

orientation tour, provide additional information and answer your

questions.
