Pine Lakes Community News Written by the Residents for the Residents” July 2018 Residents Association News Hello Everyone, The Yard Sale was a moderate success, fewer sellers than last year. Many of our new residents downsized prior to moving here, probably didn’t have anything to sell. Big thanks to Claudia for working the grill (on a HOT day) and cooking hot dogs for the lunch. Yard sales are unpredictable, even with advertising in the local paper, we can never tell how many buyers may show up. The picnic was well attended by over 160 people. Great music by the Ping Brothers Band and perfect weather made for a fun evening. As always, our volunteers made it all possible. Their hard work is appreciated and essential for a successful event. We try to acknowledge all the volunteers by name but the logistics didn’t make that possible this time. Claudia was everywhere, doing everything, as usual. You are the best! The Board is making every effort to keep our events fresh and we try to come up with new ideas to keep things interesting. Some ideas are more successful than others. Please contact any Board member with your thoughts on what we can do to improve things. Please be aware we work very hard to put these functions together. We are always ready to listen to constructive criticism, but it is disheartening to hear negative comments via the grapevine. Please contact us directly with your comments, positive or not—we are all adults and can take it! August 7 th is National Night Out, honoring law enforcement and first responders. This event is being planned by PLAMHO. September will feature the very popular Sock Hop hosted by Niesje Province. Last year’s hop was awesome and we are sure this year’s party will not disappoint. Fifties attire is encouraged, so break out your saddle shoes and poodle skirts and get ready to rock! We are always looking for volunteers for the events and encourage new residents to sign up. It’d a great way to meet other residents and have fun. Volunteer sign up sheets will be posted in the Clubhouse, so we can add your name to our list of helpers. Again, thanks to all who made the picnic a success and a big thank you to management for their sponsorship. Wishing everyone a safe and happy July 4 th . Residents Association News Hello Everyone,

The Yard Sale was a moderate success, fewer sellers than last year.

PLAMHO NEWS JULY 2018 Greetings, Park Residents,

Please continue to think rain and pray the monsoons come soon to alleviate the drought, replenish our lakes, and improve the fire conditions.

We are now an officially certified FireWise community thanks to the dedicated efforts of Rick Moshier, Debra Socolick and an awesome band of hard working volunteers as well as many individuals who have initiated cleanup of their properties. Congratulations to all.

We are planning ahead for the next quarterly PLAMHO meeting and are introducing an opportunity for community participation to allow residents to share their views, suggestions for improvements, or just ask questions relevant to our lives here.

These comments or questions do not need to be confined to PLAMHO issues but can cover questions regarding the FireWise program, Residents Association activities, or any other topic relating to the Pine Lakes lifestyle.

This meeting is planned for Saturday, August 11th at 1.p.m.

During the month of July and the beginning of August you may email any questions, comments or concerns you may have to us at [email protected], or reach us by mail at PLAMHO, 317 Oxbow St, Prescott, Arizona, 86305.

This is the first time in recent history the leaders of the groups tasked with developing and monitoring park programs have united to hold this type of meeting to give you, the residents, an opportunity to share your ideas or concerns about issues pertaining to the park.

We encourage you to share your thoughts with us during the next month so we may find the answers to any questions you may have. All will be addressed and although you may not receive the answer you wish at least it will have clarified your question. We will review the comments received and address them at the August 11th meeting.

We are beginning our planning for National Night Out, the annual event honoring and recognizing the efforts of law enforcement and first responders. This year the event will be held on August 7th.

As we celebrate the 4th of July weekend, let us all take time to remember the sacrifices of our veterans and honor them for their service.

Wishing you all a Safe and Happy 4th of July.

Charlie’s problem

Each day of summer seemed to be hotter than the previous one, thought Charlie. He didn’t remember it being this hot before, nor did he remember feeling this badly. His trailer was like an oven and he felt really awful. What could he do?? Trying to stand up and look for his human, Charlie staggered to his water bowl and lapped up some water that was there. It didn’t help much. Sadie, knowing that Charlie wasn’t feeling well, hovered anxiously by the fence, giving comforting yelps.

Just then his human came out of the house and called “Charlie, Charlie.” I just can’t answer, thought Charlie as he lay in the shade next to his trailer panting.

His owner saw Charlie panting profusely. “Oh Charlie, it’s too hot for you here, poor thing”. Saying this he picked Charlie up and carried him into the big house. Sadie looked on sadly as Charlie was carried off. She then ran back to her house and barked until her owner took her inside.

“Oh my. It is so much cooler in here,” thought Charlie as he lay on the couch. After a drink of cold water and a rubdown with a cool cloth, he began to feel a little better.

“I didn’t realize how hot his trailer was,” said his owner to his wife.

“Sorry Charlie boy, we’ll just keep you inside when it is too hot. “Suits me” thought Charlie, even though he’d miss seeing Sadie as often as usual.

Too Hot To Trot

During this hot weather it is important to be aware of the heat of the pavement, and the danger of burning your dog’s feet while walking. The graph to the left, shows just how much hotter pavement becomes than the air temperature. You can check for safety by placing your hand on the concrete or pavement for five seconds. If it’s too hot for comfort, it is too hot for Fluffy or Fido!

Monsoons will soon be here and you can check the weather on our own weather station? It is located right in the middle of the community. You can access it on your smartphone from anywhere in the world. You can find the current temperature, weather forecasting for the next two weeks as well as current and time-lapse photos of the actual weather conditions in Pine Lakes. All you need to do is go to Bloomsky Weather and follow the directions to set it up on your smartphone. Our stations name is pinelakesprescott. You can also go to www.pinelakesprescott.com and see the current weather on the bottom of the Homepage of our community website.
