Khulna City is situated on southern region of Bangladesh. The soil in this region is formed by the alluvialdeposits from different rivers (Rupsha, Vairab etc.). This region is also covered by deep forest of undarban.!ue to tectonic forces at different times in the past, these deep forests "ere buried underneath. #or thesereasons, the soil is very soft, compressible having organic matter "ith lo" bearing capacity as "ell as pile

    capacity ($olla and $ali%, &'').

Khulna City is epanding "ith large development pro*ects including construction of high rise buildings, bridgesand overhead "ater tan%s etc. ince the bearing capacity of the sub+ soil of Khulna is very lo", pile foundationis used for the construction of high rise buildings and other important structures. #or most of the pro*ects other than a large pro*ect, the o"ner does not li%e to bear the cost of pile load test .n such cases the pile capacity

obtained by conventional method can be used for the design of pile foundation confidently if any published paper is available on pile capacity of Khulna sub+soil. -nfortunately, such published paper is not available tillno". Therefore, it is necessary to publish such a paper. The main ob*ectives of this study "ere to determine the pile capacity of Khulna sub+soil by Conventional method and to compare "ith the values obtained by pile loadtest.

    "$ Me&h'#'l'+

n this study pile capacity "as determined at fourteen sites. #or each site pile capacity at different boreholes"as determined and by averaging the pile capacities of all the boreholes the average pile capacity of that site"as obtained. #inally averaging the pile capacities of all the sites the average pile capacity in Khulna sub+soil

"as obtained. Then a graphical comparison of ile capacity obtained by conventional method and pile load test"as made for different diameter piles.
