PRESIDENT'S MESSAGEOn aturday e\'ening, December 3. our bas·

ketball team thrilled all of u by winning a

fast and beautifully played game with a typic·

ally tall team from Western Carolina. The \;c·

tOrT wa especially sweet for it was the fjr t

ttm'e in ten years that one of our quintets de·

feated th e neighboring giants who alway

have a team which averages 6'4" and more.

Piedmont College has a tradition of winning

against big odds. Many of our students

throughout our ixty.four years have known

the joy of triumph over economic handicap

as they work their way in large part on their

own through college. Their practical experi

ences of blending a genuine desire for an edu

cation with the determination of persi tent ef

fort trengthen and develop habits of purpo e·

fulness which carry over into the years of

vocational re ponsibility after college.

Our graduates make good in business, educa

tion, politics, homemaking, religious attitude,

labor and management relations, and profes

sional activities. Mo t of our graduates know

the inner peace and power which come from

doing significant and con tructive job in theircommunities.

A grm,;ng circle of friend have expres ed

their confidence in the program and forward

looking policies of the college by providing

tangible tools of trength and equipment, uch

as endowment fund, current scholar 'hip andwork-aid gift, new hou e' for the faculty.

King cience Hall, and a modern dormitoryfor ninety- ix men and two faculty families--

Wallace Hall. Each year bring a few more of

our long range plan into the \'ictory columnof reality and developments achieved. Constant cooperation on the part of all who believe in the ideals of qualit)' Christian education for sincere and indu trious young people

shall continue to triumph O\'er \\hatever obstacles the day ahead may bring.

Our confidence in the future i not rooted in

ourseh'es alone. e\'en though we ackno\\ ledgethe essential importance and dri\'ing power o[one's own desire and personally accepted

goals. Our faith is in the li\'ing God who has

grace and power enough to hel p us reach indue time e\'ery objecti\'e which i noble andright for u . In the fellow hip of all who ,hare

our faith we hall endeavor to be faithful to"the true light, which lighteth very man that

cometh into the world."
