Governor said, different develop- ment activities of the Islands were dis- cussed in the Administrator's Advisory Council meeting, held for the first time in the last three years, in November 2017. In his address, the Lt Governor recalled the contributions of the freedom fighters who made supreme sacrifices for the cause of the motherland. He said the National Me- morial Cellular Jail is the mute witness of the gory sufferings meted to the heroes of our freedom struggle. The Lt Governor asked everyone to take a pledge to rededicate themselves for the Country's freedom, unity & integrity and always work for its progress. The Lt. Governor, on this oc- casion highlighted the various measures taken for the development of A&N Islands during the last three years. The Lt. Gover- nor said, different development activities of the Islands were discussed in the Admin- istrator's Advisory Council meeting, held for the first time in the last three years, in November 2017. In the National Highway sector, the Lt Governor informed, that about 80 percent works of the National Highway are in different stages while tender for the remaining 20 percent work will be floated soon. The work for the bridge over Humphrey Strait is progressing well while the tender process for the Middle Strait Bridge has been completed. This will cut short the present time to half to reach Diglipur from Port Blair. The Lt. Governor also thanked the Member of Parliament, Shri Bishnu Pada Ray, Adhyakshas of both the Zilla Parishads, all PRI members, PBMC Chair- person and Councillors, Tribal Council Members, elected representatives, political parties and the people of A&N Islands for their contributions in the development of the Islands. The Lt. Governor also thanked the media for their contribution in develop- mental activities and also lauded the A&N Administration, under the leadership of the Chief Secretary for all its efforts. He con- gratulated the recipients of the LG's Com- mendation Certificates and expressed hope that they continue to work and serve the people of these Islands in selfless manner. He also complimented the marching contin- gents, the school children and the tableaux, for their impressive performance. Before arriving at the Netaji Stadium for the main function, the Lt. Governor visited the Na- tional Memorial Cellular Jail and placed wreath at the 'Martyr's Column' there. An impressive march past was presented by the parade contingents from Defence forces, A & N Police, Police Fire Services, NCC Ca- dets, and contingents from different schools of Port Blair and its adjacent areas. For the first time, a Special Police Force Contingent from Tamil Nadu participated in this year's Republic Day with their smart turn out in the Parade. Tableaux were also displayed by the Departments of the Administration. These included Agriculture, Animal Hus- bandry, Election Office, Environment & Forest, Fisheries, Health, Industries and Shipping Services. A demonstration on fire fighting was also conducted by the A & N Police Fire Services. Besides, a colourful cultural programme, depicting the diverse cultural heritage of the Islands was pre- sented by the school children from various schools of the town. Executive Police (Female) Platoon, Fire services bag honours in Republic Day 2018 parade From page-1 Eight contingents of A&N Police and one contingent of Tamil Nadu Police par- ticipated in the Republic Day Parade-2018. This year, the marching contin- gents of police were ex- changed between Tamil Nadu and Andaman & Nicobar Islands for par- ticipation in the Republic Day Parade under the ae- gis of Prime Minister’s 'Ek Bharat Shrestha Bharat' scheme so as to promote cultural integration. The Chief Secretary, A&N Is- lands, Director General of Police, A&N Islands, In- spector General of Police, A&N Islands and other senior Police officers also interacted with the police marching contingents. Winning contingents were honoured for their outstanding performance during the “At Home” function held at Raj Niwas on the eve of Republic Day and received the trophy from the Lieutenant Gov- ernor Admiral D.K Joshi PVSM, AVSM, YSM, NM, VSM (Retd.). Japan was received at PS Havelock regard- ing theft of bag containing his passport, identity card, camera, two mobile phones and costly glasses recently. Immediately, a case of theft was registered at PS Havelock and investigation was en- trusted to SI G.S. Yadav, I/c OP Radha Nagar. Due to the efforts put in by Insp. Rahul, SHO PS Have- lock and his team comprising SI G.S. Yadav, SI Satvir Singh, PC/ 2627 K. Workshop on Ethical hacking, cyber Security PORT BLAIR, JAN 27/--/ The Department of Com- puter Science and Engineering is organising a two- day workshop on Ethical Hacking and Cyber Secu- rity from Saturday to keep the students abreast with the latest security threats and cyber security issues. The workshop was inaugurated by Mr. Jagadeeshan, Chief General Manager, BSNL, Port Blair. The chief guest shared the real-time threat scenario in the tel- ecommunication world and urged that students should take the workshop seriously so that they harness maximum benefit of it. Sweets were distributed to students and audience at the celebra- tion. Ms. Fareeda also visited the Primary Health Centre, Garacharma where she interacted with patients and distributed sweets to them. National Voters Day celebrated at Rangat V SENTHIL KUMAR RANGAT, JAN 27/--/ National Voters Day was observed be- fittingly in the Zilla Parishad auditorium at Rangat on January 25. The Assistant Commissioner of Rangat, Mr Piyus Rohankar was the chief guest, while Tehsildar, Rangat, Mr Gopa Kumar graced the occasion as the guest of honour. The Assist- ant Director of Agriculture was also present on the occa- sion.
