Crooked Billet Day Hats
Orders are being taken for Crooked Billet Day tri-corner hats and duster caps. If you have a hat from a previous year, feel free to use that!
Otherwise, please use the form below to place your order. Most girls wear duster caps and most boys wear tri-corner hats; however, feel free
to order the hat of your choice!
Place your payment and order form in an envelope marked CB Day Hats.
Orders will be accepted through April 23.

Helpful Guidelines for Crooked Billet Day Costumes
Girls
Dress or skirt should be full length. Consider adding ruffles or lace to the
sleeves of the dress or blouse. A scarf, cape, or shawl can be worn. Colonial
skirts were usually full, and gathered at the waist. A white apron can be
added, if desired. Most girls wear duster caps/bonnets.
Boys
Shirts should be white, and buttoned to the neck, although a plain white shirt is
fine! A piece of lace or ruffles can be attached to the neck in place of a tie.
Knickers, breeches, or long pants (rolled to the knee or tucked inside long white
socks) should be black, or another dark color. A dark suit jacket or a dark solid
or patterned vest can be worn. Shoes should be black (sneakers are fine!) and
some students add a silver or gold “buckle,” which is simply a cardboard cutout
covered with tinfoil or metallic paint. Most boys wear tri-cornered hats.

All meals are FREE throughout the 2020-2021 school year! You don’t need to complete any paperwork to take advantage of this offer. The free meals do not, however, include extras/snacks/a la carte items. Therefore, you may still deposit money into
your child’s account for these items. We strongly encourage cashless transactions at this time. Money can be added to ac-counts via myschoolbucks.com If you prefer to give cash, please put in sealed envelope with child’s name and label.
Breakfast will be a grab and go meal. It will be handed out in a sealed container and brough to Homeroom for consumption.

We all have uncomfortable feelings
sometimes; like sadness, anxiety,
disappointment, and frustration. It’s never
easy to see our children struggling with these
emotions. However, it’s critical that they learn
to manage them, so they are ready for
whatever obstacles life has in store.
How Can You Support Your Child’s BIG
Feelings?
• Normalize that you agree, it does not
always feel good to have BIG feelings
• Assure them that the feelings will pass
• Remind them that it’s ok to feel
uncomfortable sometimes; none of us will
feel happy ALL of the time
• Make a “Calm Down” list together of things
they can do to feel better! For example:
As caregivers, we are role models for our
children. When you have Big feelings,
• Label the feeling for your child
Example: “Wow, I am really anxious
right now.”
• Verbalize the action you will take to
try to calm your body down
Example:
“I am going to take a few deep breathes
to calm my body down”
When caregivers model these coping
skills, children will learn that they can
have some control over BIG feelings and
that they will be ok.
Benefits of Mindfulness
Mindfulness can change brain structure and
function in the areas of the amygdala (emotions),
hippocampus (learning and memory) and
prefrontal cortex (self-regulation).
Mindfulness has positive effects on a child’s
physical health and mental health.
Mindfulness helps children develop kindness,
patience, and compassion for others.
Mindfulness can increase self-control, encourage
better decision making, improve attention and
focus.
Mindfulness means becoming aware through
paying purposeful attention in the present
moment. For children this can be done through
play and activity.
10 Fun Ways to be Mindful
1. Have a mindful snack. Describe the
smell, texture, and taste of the snack.
2. Take a listening walk. Be silent and
notice the sounds that surround you.
3. Use your 5 senses. Pick an object and
use your sense to experience and
describe it.
4. Choose several objects. Notice how
they feel different to the touch.
5. Color your feelings. Give each emotion
a color and compare answers.
6. Listen to music. Try to hear the
different instruments.
7. Plant flowers and pay attention to the
process, notice the steps needed to
plant.
8. Slow motion. Pick an activity and do
it in slow motion.
9. Tense and let go of different muscles
in the body for 5 seconds.
10. Practice kind thoughts. Ask your
children to think of 3 people they
would like to send kind wishes.
