    new airplane

    has

    arrived in

    Salisbury

    after

    many anxious months

    of

    waiting1 Mr. Chuck

    McDaniels

    flew out

    in hi s

    ow n pla n e

    to

    inform us

    of its

    arrival,

    and

    Mr.

    Harrison we nt back

    with

    him

    to

    collect

our plane. Today w e are all anxiously awaiting the sound of the plane to reach us so

    that

    we

    can

    all

    rush down to the

    airstrip

    and

    give

    it a royal

    welcome.

    This indeed

    has

    bee n the

    ans w e r

    to many prayers. Now

    our

n eglected clin ics in remote

    It

    now the third week sinoe

    Dr.

    left for his much

    dese rved furlough

    in

    the

    States.

Dr. Cobb and I have been very busy since his de parture.

    It

    see ms that all

the serious surgery cases waited until Dr.

    Frasure

    left. Dr.

    Cobb refers all

    major

    surgery

    except

    C*sections

to another hospital. Duri ng this time, we have had a

    very

    largely

    attended

Easter Mee ting. I was asked to supervise the cooking, and believe

    me, it is no easy

    job

    to

    see that

    sadza and relish sufficient

    for 200-250 people,

    are

    prepared

on time and se rved prope rly.

    Thankfull y though,

    I had a wonderful crew

    of

    cooks

    to

    help

    me

    and

    we

    had

    a

    marvelous

    time together

    as

    we

    cut

    up

    a

    whole

    beef,

    spread

butter and jam on six dozen loaves of bread, and used four ̂ - bushel bags of

    mealie

    meal

    (ground com

    or

    maize).

    Just this past Sunday four

    young

men and myself wen t into

    wh er e

    w e

    had

    been invited by

    one

    of

    our

lay preachers. This preacher is an old man who has been

    the

    leader

    of

    one

    of our

    churches

    15 miles from the

    mission.

    A month ago he informed

    I

    am looking forward to

    you wil l

    As

    yet

    no

    1977

    Please

    continue to pray that someone

    will

    in this way

    for a short p e r i o d of time. The

    It

    has not been long since

    I

    wrote

but m any things have be en happening, and

    I

    wanted

    to

    tell

    you about

    then*

    First of

    all,

    we are having a

    lot

    of

    excitenent at

    the

    present tine

    About a

nonth ago, Mr Bill Harrison flew to one of our fly-in clinics and w as told

    that

    there were Lions

    in

    the area killing donkeys

and goats The following wee k they

    had

killed three more donkeys and nore goats Then just

    last

    week we

    learned

    that

    nore donkeys had been

    killed just

    five ailes

    fron us

    The next

    day we

    had

    a

    re

port of animal killings just three miles from

    us,

and then on Tue sday of this

    we ek lions'

    footprints were

    seen

on our airstrip, right here at

    the mission

    Needless to say, I

    an

no longe r taking my early

    morning

    walk alone

    _ i n

    the dark

    just

    before

    dawn There seems to

    be

    a

    pride

    of five, two

    adult lions

    and some

    young

    cubs As a rule we

have no animals of this nature

    in our area

    Occasion

    ally

    we have

    a

    leopard,

    but never

    lions,

    so

    you

    can

    imagine the

    fright of

    the

    people

    at

    this turn of

    events

    AND HE

    MADE THE

    BLIND TO

    SEE # Also

    about

    a

    month ago

    I

    isited

    a

    village

    where

    a

    new c hurch

    was

    beginning

    to meet While there, I

    met

    a little girl about seven

    years

    old who seemed

    to

    be almost

    totally

    blind

    in both eyes She

    gave the

    im

    pression of

    being

retarded because of the w ay she had to hold her eyes to

    se e

even the little she could see#

    I

    came home

    with

    the thought of

    this

    little

    girl

    troubling

    me very

    much.

    About two

    weeks ago,

    I again

    visited

    the

    village

    and

saw the c hild again My heart

    was heavy

    for her problem, so

    I

    told the m other

that the doctors from the Council

    for

    the Blind, from Salisbury, would

    be

    here

    at

    Chidamoyo,

    and she should

    bring the

child for examination The mother gave no

    hope, as

    she said

    the

    child had been blind

    since

    birth

    But

    she did bring her,

    and

    upon

    examination,

    Dr Thomas of

    the Council

    of

    the

    Blind,

    informed me

    that

    the

child could be cured w ith

    a series of

    simple operations

    on

    her eyes It

    would

    be

    necessary for

    the c hild

    to

    be taken

    to

    Salisbu ry Hospital

    for

    a period

    of

    five

    weeks

    It was

    my

duty to explain this to the

    parents,

    and advise

    them

    to

    take

    the

    child

    to

    Salisbury

I face d the father and

    mother with

    these e xplanations,

    fearful

    that

    the

    father

    would

    refuse But praise God,

    he

    agreed to go himself

    and

    take

    the

    child

    When I

    explained

    that

    Matiratidza w ould be

    able to see nor

mally after the ope rations, the

    mother

    just

    sat

    there

    and

    cried I cried a bit,

too. The little girl, Matiratidza, is

    not retarded

    at all, and should

    be

    able

    to live a

    very normal

    life after the

    operations

    It is

    very coLl

    Dear Christian Friendsi

    Once again

    I find i t

    i s time tha t I write a

    bit

of news* Many thi ngs h ave

    My feelings

    mixed.

    The

    political

    situation

    of

    th e

    country is

    difficult an d as you h a v e

    heard, I'm sure,

    the pe ac e

    talks

    i n Geneva

    are not going well at

    this

    time* Once

    we

    leave

    the

    country,

    we

    don t, know if

    we

    will be

    able

    to

    return.

    So

    even

    though

I am anxious to visit my

    family

    a nd

    friends

    i n

    America, it

    is

bre aking my heart to leave the friends

    Because

of t h e intensity of the fighting In those

    areas,

    they

    felt it

    this time.

    Of

    course,

    both places w e r e

    here at

    Chldamoyo think

    much

    about the future

    of Chldamoyo and

    our own

    Dr. J am e s F r a s u r e , w h o i s h o m e on furlough, still plans to return

    In one newsletter, you
