HAPPY NEW YEAR
Chairman’s Welcome
Happy New Year to you all. I hope you all enjoyed the festive break. It was lovely to see
many of you at the Christmas carvery. I am used to only having one course, so I had to pace
myself for 3 courses. Thank you for raffle donations. Margaret as President & I went to see
Chris Wakefied who is the fundraiser for Pramacare on Tuesday 11th December to hand
over the cheque for money raised this year. The total raised includes the profit from the
SWRSM raffle and SWR Christmas card amnesty. The total was raised was £1,206.63. Thank
you to everyone who contributed in any way. Thank you to Debbie & Del Hood for selling
raffle tickets at the function & to Ray for his table plan art work.
At the dinner dance on March 2nd (still time to book. Closing date 1st February), the
committee has decided that the profit from the raffle will go to the Ugandan Conservation
Foundation that Dee & Tony Tester have connections with. Tony will give information on
this at the dinner. Raffle prize donations will be welcome. We can take some non-member
bookings (friends of members) but the cost will be £22.50 each. DA members have
priority.
In this edition are booking forms for the dinner dance, some of the booked meets for the
year, sites list 2019 (volunteer stewards still needed) & nomination forms for committee. *
This information is also on the website. Don’t forget we have a closed DA Facebook page
which you are welcome to join. Just request to join and an administrator will follow up your
request.
We are planning a stewards meeting Easter at Furzebrook. This will be held in the marquee
on Easter Friday lunchtime. The invitation is for existing and future stewards to attend.
We will expel the myths about stewarding and explore new ways to have joint stewards etc.
We will go through the paperwork as well. Refreshments will be provided. Please come &
support.
I hope you all enjoy your camping in 2019. If you have any queries, you can contact me via
email or phone. [email protected] 01202 382778 (before 9pm please).
Heather Brown
Chairman New Forest DA.
WHY SHOULD I (AS A MEMBER) ATTEND THE DA AGM – SUNDAY 10th March
I thought that I should write a piece on this. As with all things we presume that members know what goes on.
Last year 30 people braved the snow to attend the AGM. Many of these were existing or
past committee members. For the DA to progress, we need younger members to take a
more active part and for members to come up with ideas i.e. hook up sites early/late
season, social activities as well. We also need a social organiser & a shadowing THS officer.
These do not have to be committee positions. To attend and have a vote, you must be a New
Forest DA member & bring your membership cards to the AGM. The doors open at 10am to
give you time to socialise and read the reports. The main official business only takes a little
time. This is followed by a members meeting. This is informal, but if you have a point to
make please raise your hand & give your name (this helps our minutes Secretary in making
a true record of the meeting). In this meeting, your views, comments & suggestions will be
welcome. This gives the new committee items for discussion.
After the members meeting the elected committee will retire to the back room to decide on
job roles. Teas, coffees, sandwiches and cake will be available for everyone & the committee will join you to socialise. Post social the new committee will have a short committee meeting.
We now only have 7 meetings a year + the post AGM meeting & we endeavour to finish
meetings by 9.30. It would be good to have new people to join us.
As a committee we try to please the majority of our members with our decision. So if you have
any ideas for future events please contact me or another committee member. There will be
no pressure to join committee or organise it on your own, but your participation would be
appreciated.
With regard to the date of the AGM 2020, we are going to run a survey on our DA
Facebook page to ascertain whether members would like to have the AGM later into April,
to include camping and a social evening. Suggested sites are 6p Handley or Furzebrook or
maybe Lytchett Manor & a hall nearby. If you are not on Facebook & wish to air your
opinion, you can phone or email me.
