It has been said once you learnto ride a bicycle, you neverforget. But few remember whythey did ride a bicycle. For meand my younger brother, it was forpurpose and great pleasure.Maybe learning to ride was notthe real issue but modifying thefront forks of our bicycles toreceive smaller wheels to carrylarger baskets for our paperroutes.

Seeing was really believingthat anything was possible, because whether it was t-shirtsand shorts in the summer orthermals and gloves in the winter, there was always somethingspecial right around the corner inRonnie Sox, Buddy Martin, orJake King driveways.

‘Cudas, Road Runners, andChallengers of every funky colorfrom Sublime to Plum Purplewere in their driveways. Most

were Hemi’s with Michiganlicense plates.

Memories of special times andplaces are quickly recalled byeveryone and make car showsthat much more special.

As I pulled into the parking lotat the Antique Market Place

Hospice Benefit Car Show, oneunmistakable Flamingo coloredgreenhouse profile made me

smile. It was acustom lowered VWVan with a half adozen or so girls andtheir brother orcousin having thetime of their lives intheir Granddad’s VWvan.

him about his UNC front licensedplate. He told me the story thatthe UNC plate dates back to thefirst time he saw a T-Bird at theBoar & Caste Drive Inn. He saideverybody in the family referredto the T-Bird as the “UNCK” car.

The Hospice Car Show atAntique Market Place was a goodday for families and memories. After all Hospice is all aboutfamilies and memories.

Quite a few classic cars where up For Sale andmore than a few folks most assuredly werethinking seriously about buying the car of theirdreams. Next week, we’ll have more greatphotos, results and info to share about thisparticular car show.

Leonard (of Antique Market Place) was incharge of locating the best Bling Awards. Aboveis a 1969 Camaro and below is the engine froma 1967 Chevelle 396 Rat motor.

One Common Blunder at Auctions__________________________________You decide to attend your first

auction. You arrive early and finda wonderful (legal) parking spot.

You take your time examining allof the wonderful offerings andtheir conditions and ask ques-

tions and obtain accept-able answers from theauction staff regarding theterms and conditions ofthe auction.

You register and obtainyour bidder number, whichyou place in a conspicuousspot in the hatband at thefront of your 10-gallon hat.All is great when you de-

cide to bid on an item that youlike about 45 minutes into theauction.

The item starts at $5 and risesrapidly to $7.50, $10.00,$12.50, $15.00, $17.50 and bid-ding begins to slow when you bid$20.00. Eventually, another bid-der offers $22.50 and you, aftermuch consideration, place yourfinal bid of $25.00.

After a few anxious moments, the Auctioneer finally says the

word you have been longing tohear. "SOLD" seems to echothrough the neighborhood. TheAuctioneer calls out the num-ber that you have displayed inthe band of your cowboy hatand you have made your veryfirst purchase.

So far, so good. You stay atthe sale for a few more hours, suffering greatly from the ef-fects of the summer day onyour allergies. You don’t bid onanother item, but rather staystanding in the crowd, occasion-ally using your handkerchief, rub-bing your itchy eyes and adjust-ing your now cumbersome TexasRanger headgear.

Finally, you decide for pay foryour purchase and proudly takeit home. After arriving at thecashier, you turn in your biddingcard and get handed back a twopage, single-spaced bill with over20 items listed for several hun-dred dollars. When you finallyregain you wits, you realize thatevery time you waved your hand-kerchief, raised your hand to your

Auction Blunder continued

eyes, or adjusted your sombrero, you had unwittingly placed a bidon an unwanted item. You turn andrun, at top speed, the 2.4 milesback to your house, returning thenext night to pick up your car atmidnight and never attending an-other auction.

Mistakes:1. You failed to enjoy a bever-

age or auction staple hotdog fromthe lunch wagon; never a goodthing to forget.

2. Hightailing it home is notgood. When a mistake is made byeither yourself or the Auctioneer, please bring it to the attention ofthe staff as soon as possible. Mis-takes happen at every auction, and

most Auctioneers just want toget as much as possible, right.

3. Running that far in thatheat could cause health prob-lems.

4. Always remember yourbidder number, and what’s withthe hat?

5. Come back soon, auc-tions are fun!

6. If after all this, you do de-cide to employ some clandes-tine bidding technique, i.e.

blinking an eye or wiggling an ear, please let someone on the auc-tion staff know this prior to theauction.- cited by “Auction for Dummies”

TIP of the Week...Cleaning SilverJewelry

Keeping your silver jewelry beau-tiful will allow you to wear it more fre-quently and enjoy it more. How do youkeep your silver jewelry ready to wearat a moment’s notice?

1. Clean it after each use with a soft100% cotton or flannel cloth to re-move makeup, sweat, dirt, etc.

2. If your jewelry just needs a mildcleaning, you can clean it with amixture of very mild liquid deter-gent and warm water. Be sure yourinse it well and dry it thoroughlywith a soft cloth.

3. Many professionals swear by us-ing baking soda or toothpaste onsilver jewelry, while others say thatthey are too abrasive. If you don’twant to take the chance, then youneed to purchase a silver spray orpolish to clean tarnish off your jew-elry to keep it looking beautiful.

4. If your silver jewelry has gem-stones then you need to be carefulcleaning them. Some cleaners candamage your gemstones.

We are of a certain age wherenot too terribly long ago whensomeone mentioned the word‘viral,’ we would run the otherdirection trying to avoid beingexposed to germs being spreadaround in hopes of not gettingsick. Now, the word ‘viral’ has atotally different meaning!

Our world changeddramatically when the internetbecame available to the generalpopulace and made it so easy toconnect instantly with othershalfway across the world viaemail, newsgroups, and websites.

Young folks not even out of highschool and college started givingtheir dreams wings with theirgrasp of high technology. WithFacebook becoming viral all overthe world and the Tea PartyMovement becoming a majorpolitical force almost over night, these viral network phenomsonly confirm how quickly andwidespread networks of likeminded people now congregateonline, grow and multiply.

As a free internet publication,Pickers, Pedals, Passions &Blunders was designed to beforwarded to friends and peergroups which increases thepotential for our humblepublication to become ‘viral.’This is in keeping with our initialmission of connecting buyers tosellers, as well as educatingyounger generations about theimportance of preserving ourheritage.

With an initial data base ofabout 15,000 individuals andmany groups, only hours after thefirst edition was sent out westarted getting many favorablereplies from all around theUnited States. Then after thesecond edition went out lastweek, even more emails pouredin with wonderful praise andgreat suggestions of expandingour coverage to include more ofthe United States and Canada.

Our staff would like to thankeveryone for your comments andthose who have emailed usrequesting to be included in ourdata base. Rest assured, we aremaking plans to expand ourcoverage. As traditional printedpublications have floundered dueto declining readership, Pickers,

Pedals, Passions & Blunderswas designed to bridge the gapfor those of us who long for theold fashion magazine in hand andyet yearn to move into the 21s t

century by ‘plugging in tocyberspace.’

Ending on this note, we hopeeveryone enjoys this week’sedition! Thank You!
