We want you to do whatever we ask of you, but we are unwilling to do what you ask of us. Sermon “Refocus” Rev. Michael Wallace When Jesus enjoins us to take up our cross and follow him, he is inviting us to join him in the risk of love. But what about those who want a risk-free Christianity of guaranteed security? If we are unwilling that we or our children should ever have to suffer for the name of Jesus, we concoct a Christianity where martyrdom is out of the question. And when martyrdom is no longer considered a possibility, we turn Christianity into a safe and anodyne civil religion in service of the empire. This is not the risky and robust Christianity of Peter and Paul, of Perpetua and Felicity, of Dietrich Bonhoeffer and Óscar Romero. For the Christian, martyrdom is always on the table—we signed up for the possibility of martyrdom with our baptism. In fact, in our baptism we have already died with Christ. But because the one who was crucified forgiving his enemies is the King of Glory raised from the dead, Christians believe that no matter what darkness and hate may do, in the end light and love will win. CHRIST CHURCH CHANCEL CHOIR Anthems, Scripture Readings, and Hymns will reflect on the events of the past year.
(This concert will take the place of the previously scheduled Duruflé Requiem.)
Normally this time of year we, as a congregation, begin collecting items to help our friends at the Thanksgiving Baskets Downtown project provide all the fixings for a thanksgiving
meal to over one thousand Stark County families. With COVID numbers again at a high level, the TGB project is once again asking for monetary donations instead of individual item
donations from participating churches to reduce the number of volunteers needed to be in close
contact for sorting and organizing. If you would like to make a donation to help this

TAG is BACK… Maybe The Tuesday Afternoon Group is hoping to come back. Due to the current covid concerns, October TAG is cancelled. We will assess beyond October on a month-to-month basis. Here are the programs we have planned for November and December if we are able to hold TAG.
Tuesday, November 16 – College Football Update presented by Todd Blackledge Tuesday, December 14 – Christmas Music presented by Heather Cooper and the CPC Bell Choir

This is the second of two sessions on Stephen Ministry Small Group Peer Supervision, in which Stephen Ministers provide support, encouragement, and accountability to one another in their ministry. Supervision ensures that Stephen Ministers provide the best care possible, yet is done in a way that keeps the identity of the care receiver and the details of his or her situation confidential.
