President’s MessageGreetings ENYDCTA Members!

An enthusiastic welcome to spring, riding weather, no bugs (yet), and show/clinic season! We had a fun winter educational day in February, and are very grateful to all who attended, as well as our exceptional speakers who donated their time, and the beautiful Graphite Hill Farm for hosting us. It was a great day of learning, and everyone seemed to enjoy the format of a condensed day of learning opportunities, rather than the multiple individual programs that we have done in the past. We also enjoyed a fun evening in February watch-ing the live streamed Freestyles from Wellington at Dover Saddlery, and playing ENYDCTA Trivia. Congrats to our champions of Beth, Denise, and Molly, and huge thanks to Dover for hosting this event. We will do this again at the end of March and hope that you will join us for lots of fun!

The relocated/rescheduled ENYDCTA banquet was a great success earlier this month. I sadly fell ill with the dreaded stomach bug, and was unable to attend. I always look forward to catching up with everyone at our annual banquet, getting a chance to chat without being attached to a horse, and watching everyone receive the ribbons and reap the rewards of their hard work from the previous season. I missed seeing you all, and want to ex-tend a huge thank you to everyone who pitched in to make that night flow seamlessly. The board welcomes your feedback on the venue, to help us decide on a location for next year’s banquet. Please email us ([email protected]) with your com-ments or suggestions!

A Message from the Regional Director

For the first time since I have been doing these news-letters and that has been a few years now….Mother Nature has been fairly good to us this winter. They say the groundhog did see his shadow which means spring is coming sooner???? I hope this is true so our Equine friends will be ready for the first shows.

The show season is coming!!! . It is time that you should research and plan the shows you are thinking about. Make some realistic goals! Are you going to do the

USDF Region 8 Update

Your ENYDCTA board has been very busy creating lots of great opportunities for you to take advantage of this season, starting in March with the gym-nastics clinic with Margie Hutchinson. We then have the Instructor Certification Exam (demo rider opportunity!) in early April, ENYDCTA Dressage Days (volunteer opportunity!) and the Used Tack Sale in May, a symposium with Carter Bass and Sara Vanacek about sporthorse handling, conforma-tion, and how it affects riding, and a Freestyle clinic with Ann Guptill in July. More details to come on all of those events and more, so keep an eye on your email!

We have also launched a new website to streamline things on our end a bit, and give members a better experience. Please check it out at enydcta.com, log-in with your information that was emailed to you, and stay up to date on all of our exciting happen-ings.

As always, this is YOUR club and we want to bring you events and opportunities that interest you, so if there is something that you would like to see hap-pen, please reach out to us! We’re always available by email ([email protected]), or stop by a board meeting on the first Monday of every month at 7pm at the Gateway Diner on Central Ave in Albany.

Here’s to a great 2020 season!

Krystal

Regional Championships? What about trying for the US Dressage Finals in November??? As a show manag-er, I am getting everything ready and competitors, you should too! For those who were not in Florida showing, get your memberships, registrations, vaccinations and Coggins done NOW!!! Every rider, owner(s), trainers, and coach MUST take a refresher course annually to meet the safe sport requirement or you cannot compete. However, the refresher course is much much shorter as it only took be about 10mins. It is important that you get this done.

On the Jr/YR scene, I sadly accepted Jen Dillon’s resignation this week. Jen has been a huge supporter of the NAYC and a wonderful well organized Region 8 Youth Coordinator for over three years. Jen is going to be working closely with our new Coordinator, Roberta (Bobbi) Carleton, to help her get up to speed as we are fast approaching the qualifying season for our region. As you should be aware, the NAYC will be held at Great Lakes Equestrian Festival, Traverse City, MI on August 4-9, 2020. As for you, Juniors and Young Riders, don’t forget to declare if you are going to compete for a place on the team. If you have any questions, please contact Bobbi, [email protected]. Once you declare she will be contacting you for sure!

Nominations are still open for Participating Members to be delegates at the 2020 USDF convention. If you are interested or if you want to nominate someone, you need to contact Kate O’Connor, [email protected], quickly. As a PM Delegate you must attend the USDF convention next December and Kate can give you the scoop in more detail of what is expected. I would love to see some new faces.

REMEMBER another date….April 26th at 1pm will be our spring meeting at the Publick House in Sturbridge, MA. I know the agenda will have sub-committee reports on fund raising, discussions on rules coming up for 2021, and more. This is YOUR region and you will have a huge opportunity to voice your opinion and to partici-pate and get involved. I urge everyone to come.

That is all for now. Stay Warm…give hugs and kisses to our equine friends!

See you on the Centerline…

Thank you to everyone who applied this year! Itwas great to have so many of you even though

it made our decisions much harder.

I do hope those of you who were not successfulthis year will reapply next year – you are all

deserving of a scholarship!

Congratulations to Our Scholarship

ENYDCTA WebsiteIf you haven’t noticed, ENYDCTA has a new website! We decided to streamline the process of having all our different systems in one place. Wild Apricot, the vendor, allows us to maintain our membership database, email systems, web-site, payment systems, and event management all in one place. It is so nice having all of our systems at our fingertips in one place! Oh, and it can manage voting as well!

We’re still working on figuring out how to add horses to members AFTER members have al-ready renewed their subscriptions, so in the mean time, please email [email protected] to register a horse if you are already a 2020 mem-ber. If you haven’t renewed your membership yet, there is a section on the bottom of the membship application that will allow you to register a horse right along with your renewal.

Also please use the new website to see where we need volunteers! Beth has already got tons of info for volunteers up on the sight and even has Sign Up Genius ready to rock and roll.

ENYDCTA Year End Awards are based on a horse & rider combination’s achievements in competition or on a rider’s personal accomplishments. A full listing of the rules will be available on the website, in the Di-rectory, or upon request from the YEAP chairperson. For more information or to request a full set of rules, please contact Lisa Hewson at 518-248-7099 or [email protected]. The volunteer requirement to be eligible for YEAP is still in effect. There are a several ways you can fulfill this. • Volunteering: Complete four hours of volunteer-

ing over the course of the competition year (Dec 1-Nov 30). New for this year, you can volunteer at an event held by a business member in addition to any ENYDCTA event. For example, if you volun-teer at the Larkin Hill Horse Trials, those hours will count. Volunteers are responsible for verifying their volunteer hours, so make sure to verify them with Beth DeWitt, our volunteer coordinator. A volunteer may designate their hours to another person but must identify this person at the time the hours are earned. Volunteering not only fulfills the YEAP requirement but you earn $10 in ENYDCTA bucks for every 4 hours you volunteer. ENYDCTA bucks can be used in lieu of cash at all ENYDCTA events. So, if you’re interested in volunteering, please contact Beth at [email protected]. If you wish to volunteer at EDDS you can also sign up on the website, in the Volunteering section, under the Events tab.

• Donate: In lieu of volunteer hours, a nominee may also donate a sponsorship to ENYDCTA Dressage Days or donate an item to the silent auction held at

the banquet. Donations must be $25 or more and must take place prior to nominating for year-end awards and must also be verified with the EDDS show manager or the banquet silent auction coor-dinator. If you donated to the silent auction for your 2019 eligibility, that will not count for 2020 unless you donated two separate items.

• Board Meetings: Attend a board meeting. Meet-ings take place at the Gateway Diner on Central Avenue on the first Monday of every month, start-ing at 7 PM.

• Flyer Ads: You may purchase an ad in the Flyer. If you’re interested in advertising, contact Karry at [email protected].

• The Dressage Schooling Show 2nd level division has been expanded to 2nd level - Grand Prix, to account for Test of Choice classes. The Eventing Schooling Show Novice level division has been expanded to Novice – Advanced levels. All scores for both divisions must be from the same level. There is now an Open division for Schooling Show Awards for both Eventing and Dressage. This will be its own, overall category and will not be com-bined with the other AA/Jr levels. Professional riders are eligible to compete in this category at any level. The division will not be split by level unless there are more than 10 entries.

Awards include:• USEF Recognized Dressage Awards - Training

ENYDCTA will offer three scholarship opportunities to its members for the 2020-2021 season.

After careful consideration from the Scholarship Selection Committee, recipients will be announced at the 2020 Annual Meeting. These scholarship funds are designed to help our membership attend clinics and work with trainers they otherwise would not have the opportunity to.

ENYDCTA Adult Scholarships: ENYDCTA offers two separate adult scholarships in the amount of $500 each. Applicants must meet the criteria indicated on the application.

ENYDCTA Junior/Young Rider Scholarship: ENY-DCTA offers one junior/young rider scholarship each year in the amount of $250. Members under the age of 21 qualify as being a young rider/junior member. Applicants must meet the criteria indicated on the application.

*AA as defined by USEF & USDF General Scholarship

Guidelines

1. Applications for ENYDCTA Scholarships are open to all ENYDCTA members as determined by the specific criteria for each scholarship. Appli-cations have a firm deadline of November 1. No late applications will be accepted.

2. To apply for a scholarship, fill out the application cover form (available at enydcta.com) and submit it with the required materials/documentation. An application cover form must be submitted with each scholarship application.

3. Each year a committee of at least three people will review the applications and make their selections. The committee is carefully selected by the board to ensure a non-biased evaluation of applicants.

4. Each scholarship applicant is rated on the infor-mation provided with an emphasis on service to ENYDCTA (volunteering, etc.) and how this experience relates to your goals and future plans. Applicants not documenting sufficient experience will be determined ineligible for the current year. Please do not assume that the scholarship com-mittee is aware of the details of your involvement with the club. Please note the specific criteria to be met are listed within the Application Details.

5. ENYDCTA scholarships cannot be used for pro-fessional training of your horse or to supplement

show fees for a professional rider to ride your horse or extraneous expenses such as trailering, gas, food, tack, etc.

6. Applicants may only receive one scholarship per year and must meet new requirements before applying again. There will be a three-year waiting period for recipients of an ENYDCTA scholarship to reapply. Applicants not awarded a scholarship are eligible to apply again.

7. Scholarship monies will be disbursed when a voucher is submitted as reimbursement for ap-proved services/functions as detailed within the scholarships’ specific guidelines and application. Each recipient will be asked to write a brief article about how they utilized scholarship funds and the experience they gained to be published in the Piaffe Flyer.

8. Scholarships will be used for the designated term from November 1, 2020 to October 31, 2021.

1. Qualify for 2020 ENYDCTA Scholarships. Check off this eligibility requirement early and get those extra lessons or clinics you’ve been dreaming of.

2. Qualify for 2020 ENYDCTA Year-end Awards. Check off this eligibility requirement early and sleep soundly the rest of the year!

3. Earn ENYDCTA Volunteer Bucks that can be used to offset costs for ENYDCTA clinics, ENY-DCTA Swag, the ENYDCTA Annual Awards dinner or the ENYDCTA Dressage Days show. Your future self will thank you for the extra funds.

4. Make new friends! You’ll meet judges, competi-tors, show staff and other volunteers like you that may become a new lifelong friend.

5. Give back to the sport you love. Volunteers are the backbone of dressage, as most events are virtually entirely reliant on the work of volunteers to keep things running smoothly.

6. Learn to appreciate volunteers. When you volun-teer, you understand the time and effort volunteers offer to help riders have the best day possible. You’ll find yourself thanking volunteers MORE if you’ve been one.

7. Learn to appreciate show organizers. Even as a smart piece of the show puzzle, you’ll begin to ap-preciate how much time, effort and money it costs to run the shows you love.

8. Get cool swag. Who doesn’t want a FREE ENYDCTA tee shirt that tells everyone you were a part of the staff who made that amazing dressage show possible? You’re welcome.

9. Ensure ENYDCTA Dressage Days is a show that dressage enthusiasts can’t turn down! The more riders who attend the show because it was a fantas-tic experience, the more money ENYDCTA earns to sponsor future clinics and competition teams.

10. You can bring a friend or family member(s). This is an easy way to get someone you know interested in the sport you love. No experience is required.
