Phytoembryotherapy Capturing the power of the meristem and growth cyclePhytoembryotherapy is a branch of phytotherapy that specifically incorporates plant embryological tissues (buds and young shoots) containing “plant meristem” cells – undifferentiated, fast dividing cells which contain the plant’s genetic blueprint and material (see Figure 1). These embryonic tissues are rich in beneficial phyto-chemicals including: growth factors and plant hormones (see Figure 2), enzymes, nucleic acids, oligo-elements, and phytonutrients such as polyphenols and flavonoids. These embryological tissues are also utilized because many of the above mentioned components are lost in fully developed plants once chlorophyll is formed.

These embryological tissues are also utilized because their energetic components are at their highest levels when they are harvested in the spring – the most active phase of the growth cycle.

Plant buds have been used medicinally dating as far back as the Egyptians. The revolution of phytoembryological tissue therapy began in the 1950s. Dr. Pol Henry, a renowned Belgian homeopath, who had become inspired by Johann Wolfgang von Goethe’s book “The Metamorphosis of Plants”, conducted research on the therapeutic properties of plant buds. In 1970, he published his clinical findings, naming this new therapy, “Phytoembryotherapie”. He contributed much of the effectiveness of this form of plant therapy to the anabolic potential and energetic power of the plant meristems. Phytoembryotherapy was further adapted by French Homeopath, Dr. Max Tetau. He was instrumental in advancing the clinical application of embryonic plant therapy. Both during and since his time, other Belgian and French doctors, among other researchers, such as Claude Bergeret and the biologist Jean-Claude Leunis, have further contributed to the scientific and clinical development of this phytotherapy.

Harvest

• Eco-Certified fresh buds and young shoots: Certified organic buds and young shoots contain genetic material lost after plant matures.

Proprietary maceration and extraction

• Standardized extracts: Secures homogenous properties of product in all manufactured batches.

• 20 day maceration: Phytonutrients are macerated (soaked) in equal parts of water, alcohol and natural glycerin for 20 days (see Figure 3) providing the fullest range of nutrient and energy extraction.

• Biochemical component extraction: The various macerate components not only help to retain the polar and non-polar aspects, but are responsible for the extraction of specific biochemical components while respecting plant physiology:

– Water: Water soluble derivatives, tannins, minerals, water-soluble flavonoids, water-soluble vitamins, some water-soluble acids. Dr. Pol Henry also attached great importance to the role of water in the maceration process, believing that it is the water fraction that carries the energetic benefits of the bud.

– Alcohol: Alkaloids, glycosides, heterosides and some acids.

– Glycerin: Essential oils, fat soluble flavonoids, fat soluble vitamins and some acids.

• No mechanization: During maceration phytonutrients are slowly agitated aseptically by hand (no machine). The macerates are filtered by gravity and extracted by very gentle pressure – avoiding extremely powerful presses that destroy both the physiology and energetic plant properties. After maceration, the buds and young shoots are returned to nature and used as fertilizer in organic farming (to complete the energetic life cycle).

• 100% natural: The resulting concentrated macerates are 100% natural – they contain no chemical preservatives, are never irradiated and have never been heated or frozen.

GENESTRA BRANDS™ Phyto-gens are a unique product line: 1:20 extract from young buds and shoots, macerated in equal parts of alcohol, water and natural glycerin. GENESTRA BRANDS™ Phyto-gens present themselves as a darker colour than competitors (see Figure 5), which may be due to a higher content of flavonoid-type molecules. Moreover, this line is less sweet and viscous, as perhaps it contains less glycerin than competitors.

Another laboratory analysis demonstrates that while chromatographic profiles were similar, GENESTRA BRANDS™ Phyto-gens appear to be more loaded – meaning a larger range of molecules was extracted in the macerates when compared to a leading competitor (see Figure 6). The density and the dry-matter content of the competitor product tend to be lower due to higher glycerin levels.

In a visual comparison of the same single remedy, GENESTRA BRANDS™ Phyto-gens appear to be more concentrated than the leading competitor.

The chromatographic profile on the right is a GENESTRA BRANDS™ Phyto-gen – and appears to have more active ingredients than the leading competitor.

Bilberry is a remarkable plant that grows in acidic and silicic soil. In the fall, violet-black coloured berries grow and are highly sought after by nocturnal birds to help stimulate their night vision.

Historically, Bilberry has been used for its astringing properties. These astringing properties have been used for intestinal tropisms, specifically vomiting, colitis, infectious diarrhoeas, and for reducing gastrointestinal fermentation and putrefaction.

Due to its endocrine balancing effects on the pancreas and liver, especially considering the rich concentration of vasculo-protective anthocyanosides and antioxidant properties, it is specifically beneficial to help with protecting the microvascular and ocular circulation.

Lastly, it has a strong exocrine anti-infectious action with antibiotic-like properties with vermifuge activity and urinary antiseptic actions against colibacillosis.
