Q.6 (a) A train is moving along a track whose gradient is 1 in 100. The weight of the train is 6000 KN. To avoid an accident, the train is brought to rest applying breaks in 250 m length along the track. The resistance due to friction and air motion is 15 N per KN weight of the train. Find the work done in bringing the train to rest. (8)

(b) A block of weight 12 N falls at a distance of 0.75 m on top of the spring. Determine the spring constant if it is compressed by 150 mm to bring the weight momentarily to rest. (8)
