Surprising Facts Overweight children has tripled since
1970’s 2/5 kids between 6 and 17 are obese Linked to diabetes, high blood pressure,
depression, anxiety, and poor academic development
Costs over half a million dollars to treat obese people age 18 and over
70% of children have at least one risk factor of cardiovascular disease
Premature death
Change it! Exercise Eat daily recommendations from each food group Limit fast food and restaurants Get enough sleep Limit TV time Plan events or activities that promote being active
(ex. Going to the park) Take care of yourself Go outside Be happy

Bread, Cereal, Rice, Pasta group = 6-11 Servings per day
Vegetable Group = 3-5 Servings per day Fruit Group = 2-4 Servings per day Milk, Yogurt, Cheese Group = 2-3
Servings per day Meat, Poultry, Fish, Dry Beans, Eggs, and
Nuts Group = 2-3 Servings per day Fats, Oils, and Sweets = Use sparingly
Take care of yourself Even if eating properly, exercise is still
necessary Take vitamins If sick, get rest and take it easy Receive recommended 8 hours of sleep
a night Keep away from smoky environments Wash hands frequently
