Phys-Ed, Media & Music Hello Students & Families! We hope you enjoyed the Phys-Ed, Media and Music activities from last week. Here are some new ideas to try this week. Just a reminder that all of the Phys-Ed, Media and Music activities are voluntary. If you choose to complete some or all of the activities and would like to share them with us please feel free to e-mail your work to Mrs. MacKenzie ([email protected]), Mrs. Rich ([email protected]) and/or Miss Harrison ([email protected]). You can print the activities or just write your responses on a blank piece of paper and take a picture. We want you to do whatever is easiest for you. Please remember to complete your tasks with adult supervision and make sure you watch this video before you do any moving. Make sure you have permission and adult supervision when visiting the website links included in this week's activities. Do you remember the four main instrument families in the Orchestra? They include the Brass Family, Woodwind Family, Percussion Family and String Family. Sometimes we also include the Keyboard Family, but when this family is not included Pianos and Keyboards fall under the Percussion Family. Explore the Instruments of the Orchestra menu, and click through the pages to learn about the String Family, Percussion Family, Brass Family, Woodwind Family and Keyboard Family. You can also listen to different instruments in these families. Grade 1 and up: What is the PURPOSE of this media form? (Is it for entertainment, giving information, selling something?) Who is the target AUDIENCE? (When this item was created whose attention or eye did the company hope to “catch”?) If your response is kids, can you state the age range of the kids?What grabs your attention? What FEATURES do they use to communicate EFFECTIVELY? (bright colours, characters, bold print, etc.) When we are playing games, or when we are just trying to get along with others, sometimes we need to solve a problem. A fast and fun way is to play Media Choice 1: Understanding Media April 27 - May 1 Choice Board Music Choice 1: Instrument Families Phys-Ed Choice 1: Work It Out! th st Ask a family member to play with you. Say, “rock, paper, scissors” together and then make one of the shapes. You can use the picture to decide who wins that round. Use this game to work out disagreements fairly, calmly and respectfully. You can also use your whole body to make the shape. This is my rock shape. How can you make the paper and scissors shape with your body? This version gets your whole body moving! Rock, Paper, Scissors. Find a book cover, game package or food package in your home. You can also visit the Classics for Kids website website to hear different songs played by each instrument family. Challenge a sibling or family member to play a listening game with you. Take turns choosing a section of the Orchestra to listen to and have the other players guess which instrument family makes that sound.

Choice 1 Bonus Challenge:Produce a mock (pretend) commercialfor your favourite food, toy or book. Think about: Your Target Audience. What ages arethey? What do you want the audience toknow about the product? Give some important details.  (Purpose)

How will you convince someone to buy itor try it? What techniques can you use tomake it more appealing to the audience?(Effectiveness)

Hint: Watch an advertisement (ad) or tvcommercial to see how they try toconvince us! Your voice and bodylanguage matter! Show your commercial to familymembers! Have fun with this!

Make sure you have enough spacearound you and you are on a safesurface. What are you wearing on yourfeet? Use your hands to make the shapes. Standon your feet, facing your partner. The 1st time you lose a round, go down onone knee.  The 2nd time you lose, go down on bothknees.  The 3rd time you lose, stay on two kneesand touch one elbow to the ground.  The 4th time you lose, touch the otherelbow to the ground.  If you have two knees and two elbows onthe ground and lose the round, say “Goodgame!” to your partner, stand up, and starta new game! Older students mightremember playing 5 Lives when we weresending and receiving objects duringNet/Wall activities.

Orchestra's usually play Classicalpieces of music. This YouTube Playlistincludes the 50 Greatest Pieces ofClassical Music (as chosen by theLondon Philharmonic Orchestra).

Did you know that listening toClassical Music while you work canhelp you concentrate and focusbetter? While you learn from home this weeklisten to the YouTube Playlist as youwork. As you listen think about howthe music makes you feel and anydynamics or musical elements younotice in the songs.
