    PHRASAL VERBS CRISTINA.

    1.-TAKE OFF .- To leave the ground and begin to fly.

    2.-TAKE STH OFF .- To remove especially a piece of clothing from your body.

    3.-TAKE TO SB/STH.- To start liking sb/sth.

    Ex. She hasnt taken to his new school.

    4.-GIVE IN (TO SB/STH) .- To admit that you have been defeated by sb/sth.

    Ex. The rebels were forced to give in

    5.-BREAK IN .- To enter a building by force.

    Ex. Burglars had broken in while we were away.

    6.-COME DOWN (WITH SH).- To get an illness that is not very serious.Ex. I think Im coming down with a flu.

    7.-DRAW UP .- If a vehicle draws up , it arrives and stops.

    Ex. The cab drew up outside the house

    8.-DRAW STH UP .- To make or write sth that needs careful thought or planning

    Ex. Before signing , we have to draw the contract up.

    9.-GET BEHIND (WITH STH) .- To fail to make enough progress or to produce sth at a

    right time.

    Ex. He got behind with his payments for his car.

    10.-SEND SB/STH.- To make people laugh at sb/sth by copying them in a funny way.

    Ex. The T.V. programme that has sent up politicians was cancelled.

    11.-TAKE AFTER SB.- To look or behave like an older member of the family.

    Ex. Your daughter doesnt take after you at all.

    12.-TAKE SB IN .-To allow sb to stay in your home.

    Ex. He was homeless so we took him in.

    13.-FEEL UP TO.- To have the strength and energy to do or deal with sth.

    Ex. Do we have to go to the party? I really dont feel up to it

    14.-STAND IN (FOR SB).- To take somebodys place.

    Ex. My assistant will stand in for me while Im away.

    15.-FACE UP TO .- To accept and deal with something that is difficult or unpleasant.

    Ex. She has to face up to the fact that she would never walked again.

    16.-PUT UP TO .- To tolerate. To accept sb/sth that is annoying, unpleasant etc.

    Ex. I dont know how she puts up with him.

    17.-TALK SB OUT/ INTO (OF STH) .- To persuade sb to do /not to do sth.

    Ex. I didnt want to move aboard but Bill talked me out of it.

    18.-END UP WITH- To find yourself in a place or situation that you didnt intend or

    expect

    Ex. I invested some money in the stock market but ended up with less than I started

    19.-COME IN FOR STH.- To receive sth , especially sth unpleasant.

    Ex. The governments economic policies have come in for a lot ofcriticism.

    20.-GO IN FOR .- To have sth as an interest or as a hobby.

    Ex.- I really dont go in for sports.

    21.-TO PULL OUT (OF STH) .- To move away from sth or stop being involved in it.

    Ex. The project became so expensive that we had to pull out.

    22.- KEEP UP WITH.- To move , make progress or increase at the same rate as sb/sth.

    Ex. Slow down - I cant keep up!

    23.- LOOK UP TO .- admire and respect.

    Ex. Many people look up to Nelson Mandela as a statesman with real personal integrity
