Resizing your images for web upload

Jpeg

A Jpeg is a compressed image file suitable for use on the internet

Image sizeThe number of pixels, horizontally and vertically, that make up a graphic image.If a graphic was 320 pixels wide and 240 pixels tall, it would be said to have animage size of 320 x 240.

- A measure of the resolution of a printer or an image is called DPI(or dots per inch.)

- 72dpi is the generic computer screen resolution, therefore make sureto change your image resolution to 72dpi.

- For printing images-150dpi and higher is recommended(The more dots per inch, the sharper the image)

Browse and open a picture or an Image file from your computer

File > Open

Go to the- Image menu and select- Image size to open the preferences window

Type in a smaller number

Make sure to have the Constrain proportions

box checked

Image scaled down for web

will not exceed 800/600 pixels or smaller

then 320/240pixels

Image scaled down for print

You can use the inches boxes and change the

image size to fit on a 11/8 inch paper

Cropping an image

Select the crop tool from the tool box and mark the area on the image you would like to crop.

You can modify your selection and resize the area

Double click inside the crop area to crop the image

Brightness and Contrast

Image menu > Adjustments> Brightness and Contrast

Use the slider to change the image

Color Correction

Image menu > Adjustments> Color Balance

Use the slider to change the image tonality

Or use the Auto features of the menu to set up the color, contrast and levels of your image.

Image menu > Rotate Canvas

Saving your images

Use Save as to save versions of your work- an original image and a final image.

Save as a Jpeg

(for advanced users- if you work with photoshop layers- save your work file as a .PSD)
