Models

The models that I plan to use within my main image and the feature in my article are a local four man band named King No-One who are from Selby. They play a range of gigs around the York area which is where I will be taking my pictures for my front cover main image and my feature two page spread inside the issue. These models suit my genre for my magazine so I feel that it would be appropriate to use them due to them being genuine music artists that have a lot to show for themselves within the industry.

Example CoversThese are examples of the sorts of shots that I would like to use when producing my main image for the cover of my issue. I like the fact that in the Wombats issue they are quite abstract and individual which is the kind of natural shot that I am looking for. Although I may want to have the lead singer in the band as shown in the top two covers to be in front of the other band members showing a clear dominance within the band although it is a small band that I am using so capturing them in this way may be difficult compared to using the sort of shot the whole band are fully involved in.

Using EffectsThis example effect is using black and white and the location of within a real gig situation is something that I would consider for images used within the magazine issue and maybe as a main image but with more of a facial aspect in the composition. Using black and white allows the reader to notice the text within front cover and be attracted to what the magazine contains just as much as the main image.

Using this feature on my camera would allow me to take a range of motion shots and focus on a concept whilst taking faster shots to allow myself to collect more photos.

As I am taking my shots at a gig I would need this setting on my camera as it removes the interference from artificial light that would be a problem otherwise in this situation.

For shots that will be taken still I would use the manual setting as it provides the right light balance and level of contrast without the interference of any other setting changing the pictures

in any way.

Using a sepia effect such as in this image is individual to other images that may be used on a cover so would attract people to the magazine as it would be different to other magazines released at the time. This shot is only the lead singer which is an option for the magazines cover and I would feature a picture of the full band on the contents page and within the double page spread.

Image Composition

For my feature images I could use a central shot within my photographs as it can trigger eye contact with the camera and being on the same level as the person within the shot so communicates that you are of the same importance and you can engage more with the artist.

Taking a shot from this high in the frame would portray a sense of power by the artist and it quite a heavy technique in making the band noticeable.

I would use a side shot like this focusing to one side of the image depending on where my text would be located within the cover. Having the text covering one side of the cover would be individual.
